It's on the road to Newmarket.

Surely that depends on where you’re driving from?

I heard the folks at the car next to me having a little chuckle at the Autoshite dealer sticker in the window. It turns out they were from Cambs and know of "six mile bottom", I had previously presumed it to be a made up place.

And that's why I don't have any AS stickers. I quite often go through Six Mile Bottom. There was a convenience shop at that address and he had suitable crap parked outside. An old unloved 190 and a MK1 Punto were up for sale at ambitious prices.

It's a Spar these days so they have upped their game with the image.

Had the hearse out over the weekend which started badly when it decided to put the charge light on again, luckily only a bad connection. Then today we went to a local fete and came back to it and found as note under the wiper from a bloke who is interested in buying it. I think I sacred him off when I messaged him with a price. It still turns heads which gets a bit of a pain on the motorway when they pull along side to gawp whilst I am coming up behind a lorry. I think it is nearly reliable now which is about time the bloody thing.

gm, what dam was that? I'm guessing part of the Breadalbane hydro scheme.

People do that when I’m in the 2cv or fiat. Get out of the bloody way I want to pull out!

I'm not too sure - I just turned off at an interesting looking side road and happened upon it.

The gate was open so I walked right along the top, good solid engineering :)

But I'm not sure I would choose there as a good camping spot

The field we were parked in had an old ROC post in it, I had a quick look and the padlocks were missing - too many folks around to have a go at the hatch but I may have to go back some day.

Fascinating stuff

I've been in one of them in Wiltshire. Hardly the most luxurious place to watch doomsday!

'Tis a good dam, sir !

Are you a dam fan ? I particularly enjoyed Pitlochry's dam when I went there to buy a ropey peugoueut. So nice of them to think of the fish

Am I a dam fan? Er, yes. 11 years ago a mate lent me the book "The Hydro Boys" by Emma Wood, which led me into studying engineering with the OU and a complete career change...!

I just spoke to a man about a car. A verbal agreement has been reached. Tomorrow I go speak to the bank about some money.

Cruachan is a decent damn. Park at the visitor center, climb the steep footpath opposite and you'll be treated to great views.

Todays grin is finally finished the rear spring swap on the Mk2 Spitfire. As it was early we then swapped the entire exhaust system for a stainless one. Few final fettles today and it will be finished. As it was still fairly early, we demolished a few magnums of bubbly. A magnum of very decent sparkling rose we found for 5.17 euros a Magnum!

Also, todays weather is forecast for 28c and the day has started with glorious sunshine, so after the fettling looks like a daysitting under the Linden tree with a few beers.

Looked out the back yesterday, noticed a large pile of fag stumps and two empty packets on the road. put the CCTV onto 'play back' and soon discovered the culprit with his sign written van. A polite message on Facebook because although I felt like being rude, I'd thought I'd ask nicely first, and had there been no joy I'd have just told them I was sending the footage to the council.

Anyhow, checked the cameras again just now and he's been back and picked it all up.

The good old m.o t it passed but appears 2 of my shocks are weeping so they will go off to be rebuilt

He has a gorgeous 3 door but that was in the trailer so couldn't take a picture

I topped up the windscreen washer fluid on the new V70 today. Noticed a sticker with a picture of timing gears and belt on. Writing is a bit faded but easy enough to read close up, and it was changed 25000 miles and 4 years ago. Woohoo! I was expecting to have to do it pretty soon but it can wait a while now.

Does anybody else expect a punch line at the end of every Cav post?

Two Mile Bottom is near Thetford.

One of the local dogging sites.

Out at work today in the van. I was doing a little inspection job in a substation and a colleague comes in smiling. He says ‘had your van in for a service lately have you?’

Erm, yeah about a month ago.

He was looking at my van, amazed at how clean it is and spotted something shiny tucked down the front scuttle under the windscreen wipers.

He laughed and handed me a 13mm Bluepoint ratchet spanner, a 13mm combo spanner and a decent screwdriver! All seemingly left there by the mechanic that serviced my van.

They were still in good nik too despite being rained on. I’m surprised they’re still there tbh, I’ve done some miles with them sat there!

Pretty cool to find though.

Put them back when it next goes in and imagine the confused face when he goes to put the replacement in the same place.

Tempted to give it back to the mechanic?

Grin - House is Sold STC. 4 weeks tomorrow on the market. 5k down from asking.

Grump - Something has to give on the car front. Jag is likely the first and probably around mid to the end of September. WBOD anyone?

There was a massive row at a garage I used to work at.

Stuff had been going missing in the workshop and the accusations were flying.

One particular tool was a long handle screwdriver and the manager had to buy a replacement to stop 2 mechanics from killing each other.

Couple of months later, I was helping out in the workshop (they were desperate) and a 205 came in for service. Open the bonnet and there it was on the wing edge...

There was only me and the accused mechanic in that day and it was pointed out that if I hadn't been there it would have to have gone in the skip because no one would have believed him without a witness.

Go on, give then back :-)

Plus I'm amazed that you van even saw a spanner. You must use a better workshop than we do.

On the Facebook 'OvalChat' banger racing page, there's been two or three videos put up of a van race. It looked a right laugh, someone in an LDV was absolutely gunning it and doing really well, plus the icing on the cake was at least one Iveco getting wrecked.

Give what back!?

I should be owed them really. They didn’t top up the screenwash, I had to do it a couple of days after, and they spilt AdBlue all over place down the front of the van. Took me ages to get it off.

And on my old van they didn’t tighten up the diesel filter properly so it worked itself loose and pissed diesel all over the road and engine bay.

I got a nice Facom screwdriver in similar circumstances years ago too. A colleague bought a really nice set of them and left this one under the bonnet of a Fiesta. About a year later the same car came back in for a service complete with a lovely Facom screwdriver still sat under the bonnet. He’d left by then so it became mine. I’ve still got it too, though it’s not looking so good nowadays.
