Updating some pictures of cars I've owned on Flickr, I ran some registration numbers through the MOT history government site. Most stuff is dead (in the majority of cases the last MOT in my ownership was not renewed), but I was amazed to see the Mk2 Cavalier I owned briefly in 2006 had just received a new ticket.

 

I bought the car from its original owner (who was giving up driving at 96) for £100 after Lankytim posted details on the blue forum. I did some fairly awful welding to the front inner wings and painted the front end before getting an MOT and selling it on. I think I got about £350 and it went to a collector in Andover. Anyone seen A883 BUY on the road or at a show? Metallic green 1.6GL saloon.

Not sure about going down it........... but i'll bet going up it in a tricked out Mk 2 eccy is a whole load of fun.

They are pretty decent things and cheap enough if you buy one that needs a teeny amount of fettling which is just about what I can contend with.

After the insurance debacle of misery surrounding my hopes (and subsequent failure) to reacquire the Space Hopper, I went on eBay in a fit of pique and obtained a metallic grey VW Beetle 1.6 for the sum of £340.This is happily accepted by insurance companies. However, this might change tomorrow depending on the wind direction, traffic conditions or a combination of many things.Fuck you Mr Insurance Company.

&&&&!! I added the original 5-minute sales video link above. It's very strange. Flaky production values, dream sequence, nauseous music dubbed-in. Should be titled: "Undernourished Brunette Learns Don't Get in a Car with a Stranger" [see hot babe in 2nd photo]. Rated: PB(pretty bland), with 70s Language.They no doubt sank a fortune into this vid with a net result of maybe 5 cars being sold. Textbook example of the last gasp of a model about to be discontinued. Why promote the car too much  when you basically want to push the last few cars off the lot 'n make an end of it? The 2L motor (Audi 4) was a desperation move after eight years of 6s and 8s of 3.8, 4.2 and 5.0L size.

Work social last night, was alright, basically the same as when there's no work going except in an office with pizza. That's not the grin though, I offered a guy I'm pretty friendly with a lift back (my own age and a music student), he gets to my car and is genuinely impressed with it!

I get a load of 'my grandad had one of those' comments, but all my mates seem to really like the R8. I'm sort of baffled!

Not for long - they've gone the opposite way with the Sandero to the Duster and made body coloured bumpers standard now!

 

They're ace - wish I had a need for a Sandero as well as a Duster!
