What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Whilst all of those would get my bidding hand waving , it was a Cayenne.

2003 4.5 V8 S auto ( if it had been a manual I'd have definitely bought it ) 80,000 miles with Porsche history up to 2013- no warning lights on the dash and the suspension went up- WCPGW?

Probably for the best as fuel costs would be pretty bad, I'd have to do the old trick of sneaking out and filling it up once a week, without Mrs N knowing. She's had V8 Discos and a Jag that she thinks did about 35 mpg!

I used to think they were goppingly ugly, but they've grown on me with age, that and every other car on the road is uglier these days, I suppose.

Anyway the race is on for the first Autoshite Cayenne, it won't me , well not quite yet anyway.

Was in Liverpool overnight, a two day meeting for work.

I like the guys I work with, but the young ones were local so went home to families, and everyone staying over wanted an early night after our meal.

I'd checked in to the area on Facebook, and lo and behold a recommendation arrived from serial shite-botherer PeteM to go to the Sound bar where a local band were playing.

Ended up seeing two top quality bands, a decent beer, really friendly crowd, and had a natter to Mr M when he showed up. Mates were most gutted when I described my evening after we split.

Highly recommend Liverpool. Lovely place.

I love this YouTube video recommendation. If you had to summarise Fifth Gear in one picture, this would be it.

I've got cayennes on my eBay watch list but I'm dragging the bottom of the pool where all the really horrible turds can be found.

If you're lucky a few packets of Colombian Marching Powder might have fallen down the back of the seats, that will help offset the purchase price

A Cayenne went through Morris Leslie's auction a couple of weeks ago. Gold, 5 litre job with a few scrapes and bashes which made about 2.5k I think. The hammer didn't fall but a phone call was to be made.

Saw a Porsche 4X4 once and briefly spoke to the driver; surely to Christ I would never want to drive one let alone own one if they were given away free with boxes of matches??

Ok maybe drive one, just once but admit to ownership? I think my therapy has reached it's ultimate end;  please can I go now.

I just had a very random but quite fun evening. I went to a club I haven't been to in over 20 years with someone I only just met to see a punk band I'd never heard of. I've come away with an audition to be their new bass player because their old one is leaving to join the UK Subs.

Next time you play give me a shout if i am around i'll come along.

Heading into London on the A2 for work at 6:30am-ish and seeing a Lada Riva with bolt-on arches and a NASCAR style duck-tail. It was a bit RR but fun to see one just on the out and about.

Buying and watching Aliens and Mad Max 2/The Road Warrior blu-rays and seeing they have aged very well, Aliens seems to have aged more than 'Max if anything though. Picture quality negates the necessity of buying a blu-ray over a DVD however.

Fury Road really is just Mad Max 2 with the bat-shit craziness cranked-up and without the charm of the '81 classic or the awesomeness of a Mack air-starter. Also Virginia Hey as the Warrior Woman (subject of a young-Rusty-Sills crush) is still "hot".

Give it another week or so and you'll be in the Subs yourself - everybody else has been :)

God bless Charlie Harper 8-)

Bollocks to The UK Subs. Went to The Gallery in Manchester to see them (circa 1981) and the fuckers never showed up, a trick they were seemingly well known for at the time. Never got my £8 back either, the bastards.

After 19 years of not really caring one way or another, bottom-of-the-barrel Sunday morning television has shown me that:

The car in Aqua's "Barbie Girl" video was a pink Ford Cortina/Taunus MkIV sans roof.

Waiting in traffic at the railway gates, white Mk2 jag goes along the other way.

Nothing remarkable in that, except that it was towing a trailer.  And it was absolutely bucketing down with rain.

Yup, a Morse-mobile is his daily driver.  There's my grin for the day.

With the 7-day haunted Rover auction ending in 2.5 hours, the stupid question time is already* in full swing.

The frightening bit is that all those 40 watt bricks are allowed to vote...

Examples:

Will it drive to Bedford?

Would you sell the steering wheel?

Today I was a replacement for a handbrake. I was sitting in the Land Rover eating a cake when a lad pulled up next to me and then wandered into Gregg's.

Mid bite I noticed his car start to move backwards. I hopped out and did give him a shout, but he didn't hear so I went and stood behind his car to stop it going any further (by now it had gone about a space back, luckily being Sunday there was nothing else parked)

When he came out his face was a picture as first he looked where he'd left the car, before seeing where it now was. His angry shout of "what the fuck are you doing" was quickly followed with " thanks mate" when I replied "stopping it rolling away"

That page is a comedy gold mine. How anyone can think they look good with that stuck on them for the rest of their lives is beyond me

It's certainly innovative.

I'm slightly envious of anyone who has the initials for the European Central Bank, tattooed on their forearm, this can only be a force for good in Ellesmere Port.

I saw that and went "English Cricket Board"?

I just wanted to say a big THANKYOU to Andy aka ScaryOldCortina for sorting out my family with a couple of car issues that they were having. They are, to put it politely, a bunch of automotive numpties and had been blindly using a local garage who, by the sounds of it, had been taking the piss. Andy has sorted out two of the family's cars so far, quickly and at a very reasonable price, with service like that he can be sure that there will be more work to follow.

Next time I'm in the North East, I'll be sure to stop by and say hello (and bring Tunnocks)

Thanks again,

Mark
