What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Spotted this on my way home tonight;

It shouldn't really be a grin as the unfortunate owner had just broken down due the the gearstick breaking in half.

Unfortunately my car tool box is at work at the moment with the Jumbuck, so I could do nothing more than point him in the direction of the garage and wish him well on his way. It's a cool little thing though, the only model with open cab camper body.

Edit; I didn't get a picture as I didn't want to be seen to be making light of the poor chap's misfortune.

Wasn't that Jiffy on eBay recently? Sounds like someone had a collection fail.

Got home from work this evening to find a letter from Mazda on the doormat - apparently my Mazda is the subject of a safety recall to replace the ignition switch, as it seems there is a risk that "due to an accumulation of grease within the switch it may over heat [sic] and start to smoke".

My Mazda is 26 years old...

See, even the japs agree it's never to late to fix it with fire.

Recall also know as "revenue generator"

Nothing wrong with the switch but OMG your tyres only have 4mm of tread and your coolant isn't pink £££

I keep getting a recall notice emailed for a late 90s Honda Civic.

It's not mine, it's some nugget in America that's used my email address. But interesting to see the urgency that they went to... "You've still not contacted us" arrived after the first two went ignored.

Email them back and tell them to call for it at 5.00am Sunday as you're going away for a month on holiday.

I have this - wtf is so hard to understand about flippin e-mail addresses?

There's a geriatric semi-retired doctor in Australia who keeps sending me patient lists and invoices.

Some bloke in Salt Lake City is also too dense to figure it out so I keep getting surveys and sales offers from his local VW dealer.  I have told them (and him since I now know his actual e-mail) loads of times, but for some reason it's not working.  Anyhoo, I reviewed the service work on his VW toerag as totally awful - 1 star.

It pains me that my namesakes are so incompetent though.

Off to wales for two days trail riding and three nights in the pub with 9 mates !

Been planned for months and it felt like the day would never come . It's as much about the banter in the evenings as the riding to me but it's gonna be awesome !

I've got two namesakes that I get email for.

One is a teacher in America, not the Honda owner though. I keep getting shit from their family, jokes and catching up etc. Once I replied with a "hey, you've got the wrong address" out of courtesy and was accused of stealing an email address.

The other is a fairly famous hairdresser, same name but he just put one extra letter on his email address which looks like a typo so people drop it off and it comes to me. Got enough of his stuff for a full on ID theft. Invoices, bank details, address and phone numbers, family names....

I also get magazines asking for interviews, which I've started replying to....

As I'm lucky enough to have an @hotmail.co.uk email address from about 2004, and with an underscore in it, I've never fallen foul of mistaken identity. My mum, on the other hand, gets a lot of random invoices and offer emails that other people are trying to sign up for.

Conversely my uncle owns a domain so he has the only email address on it, that's handy.

A bloke I watch on YouTube called Stuart Brown registered rtbrown.org, and his public email is [email protected]. Clever.

one positive about breaking down on the way to work is I have lunch!

Needed two brake and tail light bulbs so popped to Halfords, Handed over my trade card and it was 75p instead of £3.49, the best bit was I was asked if I wanted them fitted :)

Clever written down but I'd hate having to spell it to people on the phone

Think I have fixed the dreaded sodding laptop! After much Googling and more sodding about, discovered that Windows 10 has a bit in it that allows Microsoft to help themselves to YOUR computer to speed up other installs of windows 10! If you go into 'settings' and then ;how updates are applied' and uncheck the bit that says from 'Microsoft and others' then that stops them using your computer.

Cheeky bastards!

It seems to be running as I would expect now.

Also, just had to buy a new wiper blade for the passenger side, £5, it was fine a few days ago, split like a cheap suit today.

I personally wouldn't let a halfrauds knuckle dragger near my car, even for just a bulb!!

Top saving with the card though!!

Finally came across another ZX locally and got a comparison shot of a phase one and two car. The newer one has half the mileage mine does, but looks twice as abused.

What also made me grin is that I had to wait for an OAP in an N reg 306 to go away before I could park here…..

This was when Citroen was the top dog of the minimal facelift. See also Phase 1 XM versus Phase 2. Tiny changes that somehow leave the facelift looking more modern, but the original better overall. I would find a pic, but my computer seems to be f*cked. I'm going to have to go to the grump thread.

Mark Radcliffe read my limerick on R6 for National Poetry day!

I've not mastered iambic pentameter,

My brain's of insufficient diameter,

But I can whip up a rhyme,

If I'm given some time,

But the quality will likely be amateur.

Enjoying my new commute, five miles each way (ideal for my ancient Hondas) through lovely countryside to somewhere with such shit parking that using a scooter is a pre-requisite.

The cars are still getting used too - the BX will be picking up a new scooter tomorrow :-D
