What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Apparently Alex Ferguson had a 1980's themed party for his players at the weekend, Giggs arrived in a Cavalier, Scholes in a Sierra and Rooney chose to cum in an Escort.

It feels wrong to put this in the grumpy thead so I'm putting it here but are any of you watching Motorway Cops? That old boy driving up the motorway the wrong way in his G reg Maestro, I feel sad for the 93 year old but it is bad though.

Indeed. When it showed the clips of him driving I was thinking what a bellend that driver was, but ended up feeling sorry for the old boy.

Did you hear him swear towards the end though?

Yeah, its sad, but fooookin deadly! Watching on iplayer so not got to that bit yet. DO they let him off with a warning like usual?

That woman that got let off for the bike shouldn't have been - It's a 'frauds rack and those "rubber bits that hold the bikes on" aren't for holding the bikes on, they aren't attached to the carrier at all, just little pads to stop the frames getting scratched.

No bloody wonder they all fell off. She's strapped the bikes together, but not to the carrier at all

I nearly pissed myself when shouted 'BOLLOCKS' out in the police car, poor old boy.

I never knew that it was only once at 70 that you get quick retest for your licence, He's carried on another 22 years after that still driving about.

He still never had a clue about how serious his actions were even when being questioned by the fuzz.

I do think some kind of retest or check over every 5-7 years after 70 year old would be a good idea, for their safety as well as everyone else's.

There was a old boy killed last year on the A12 not far from me after driving the wrong way in his KA one night, he hit two other cars before he stopped.

I just very nearly impaled my bollocks on a kitchen knife. It was VERY close. I think I stabbed myself in the thigh instead, which i'm totally cool with.

Mrs Ramrod and I decided to go out for our dinner the other night... we left the house as the sun was going down and took a back road going from our village to the next one. This meant some very Italian-Job hairpins, and in the dusk we were driving down through the clouds, with the lights of Paphos spread out below us. We love that view anyway, day or night, but it just seemed so special with the addition of clouds... it was like arriving on the plane! :D

Where has this lot come from suddenly?, checking my stats over 13000 hits have come from Flickr to my Street Rod Nationals set, i wonder where they are finding the link from?.

The pen being mightier than the sword and playing the long game.

Someone (not on the interwebz) has royally p*ssed me off for quite a while and my plans of retribution are slowly but surely coming to the fore.

Trigger... not sure, Flickr don't give you the exact referrer details like a private host would. You can try googling for links to your page though... google for "link:www.flickr.com/yourpage" and it should find links to your page, but not links to actual photos.

I once had a months bandwidth used up in 45 minutes when I hosted a video, and posted it on VZi. I looked at my referral log and it was on pretty much every type of forum imaginable, complete with my text!

I wrote ages ago about wanting to drive a truck. Well, thanks to some kind former colleagues and a very nice wife, it happened today!

A Renault Premium with 420bhp and a 16 speed splitter gearbox. Learnt so much about how trucks work today - there are TWO neutral positions and even reverse gear is split!

Took to it really well - it's very easy when you've got a huge airfield site entirely to yourself - not sure I'm quite ready to drive one of these through a city centre yet...

The best thing about this site is that there's (just) enough speed to get it hitting the limiter! 56mph in one of these is very cool.

Sorry, I know that there are quite a few truckers on here who by now are no doubt saying 'yeah, very impressive!' but I enjoyed it. A lot. It was an intense hour long session with some really difficult sections - ie slaloms through tyres set for a rally school which replicated tight junctions. I also discovered how difficult it is to tell where the back end of the trailer is when reversing...(up to a 'wall' of cones, I was about ten feet away from it!)

And i bet your still better then half the drivers that come through the port where i work, I swear that at least half of them have never passed a test.

I knew I'd seen you somewhere before Dollywobble....

I think you'll find that the Renner Premium 16 speeder is a slapover with a splitter. What gear did he tell you to pull away in?

Posted

Yes, ok, a 'slapover' it was (required more than a slap though! GR8 4 GYM WORKOUT!).

I started off in low first, just to get a feel for things at less-than-pedestrian speeds. Generally started in fifth as there was no load.

The best thing about actually getting up to speed was listening to the turbo whistle though. I'm not sure why I like the sound of a turbo whistling, but I do.

As you're now freelance sitting an LGV test may give you the opportunity to write for classic and modern truck mags. Just a thought.

Tempting, but not cheap! Besides, I quite enjoyed this as a bit of fun but even that left me knackered through sheer concentration (not helped by the fact that the instructor kept making me drive through two sets of cones at speed that the truck barely fitted through!). I absolutely loved it though.

Go on! You can drive any artic unit with an easy to obtain class 2 license. Think of the fun owning an old A.E.C or Sudden Accident would be. Fuel costs would be the same a a P5b Rover and they're easy to work on.

Trucks are great fun- they're pretty much just big tonka toys!

The first full time class 1 job I had was collecting potatoes from Lincolnshire. I had an R reg 380 premium. I loved it and took great care of it. Last I heard it had been written off in a bridge strike. Its "sister", an identical premium was written off in a smash on the M6 not long after. Bloody truckers!

Do you not have to remove the 5th wheel first? Im not sure!

No. Tis a myth!!!

I hoped you noticed loadsa renner car switches in their trucks. Even the gearknob is a bigger version of the one you would find in a 5/9/11/19 etc.

Considering the area I live in is apparently the second richest* in the UK, I was surprised to stumble on quite a bit of tat around Hartley Wintney. I even found (at last) where our old car lives! I seem to be seeing lots of stuff (for this area) at the moment.

*We arent rich at all.

My fave Curry House is in Hartley Wintney :D

PS: If you fancy a lift to the AS gathering at Stondon and can get yourself to Reading or Wokingham, I have a spare seat in the Triumph.

Thought i was doing great untill he told me to reverse" blind side " , that was fun , one mirror looking a nothing usefull and the other at the side of the trailer :?

How you guys do it for a living in traffic il never know , tis a skill i dont have

In the world of trucking.....

Renault Magnum is the Citroen cx/xm/c6

Renault Premium/Midlum are Renaults

DAFs are Fords

Mercedes are Volvos

Volvos are Mercedes

Scanias are BMWs

MANs are VWs

I won't say what I think Ivecos are...
