What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Just had a 'funny' occurrence... went to the co-op and parked outside, got to the counter and was talking to the lady serving. This is not uncommon as I sort of know them all in there and they always chat away. What was funny was she was taking the piss out of this car parked outside: it was too long and you'd need to 'berth' it rather than park it, and nobody needs a car that big...

So I joined in and said I agreed with her and look at those two dogs sat in the back of it, scruffy mutts not posh at all...

She said, 'I can''t make them out' so I handed her the keys and said: 'press that, the window will come down and you can see them better!'

There has never, in living memory, been such a rapid backtrack!

Apparently she much prefers Bentleys to Rolls Royce and what a lovely car.... :) :) :)

That made both me and the wife laugh out loud - an achievement these days let me tell you !

"Fancy spending your life waiting at junctions to be let out?"

"Then buy my X5....

It's terrible off-road, the steering is heavy, the interior is devoid of any style and the wipers have a mind of their own is just a little list of a few of the positives of this fine jewel of a BMW.

It's covered a passive-aggressive low mileage of just 71k which is an amount that doesn't surprise me because, I'm assuming like the previous owner, I'm contemplating taking to the roads on a racing cycle and wearing Lycra rather than drive this beauty.

All yours for the bargain sum of £19,995, I'll even throw in a "my other car is a Porsche" and a pair of mirrored Raybans to complete the bell-end look".

Robot Wars is coming back! 6 part series on BBC2 at some point.

Couldn't believe it when I saw that it used to get about 6 million viewers

Because Phillipa Forrester in leather trousers, and typical robot building target market.

Couldn't believe it when I saw that it used to get about 6 million viewers, that's about the same as the last round of Snooze Factor, and that is was the biggest* programme on telly (© High trousered bloke).

Typical BBC bias supporting Blair’s and Cameron's wars. Where is the Corbyn inspired Robot Socialist Utopia?

+1 on Phillipa Forrester too.

Don't google her now what ever you do - she looks like your mates mum did in 1996 - you know the one with the bashed up Renault 21 Savanah that smells of dogs. Keep the LEATHER BUM MEMORY ALIVE.

Lol no problem ta for doing it :-)

The swords look like normal officers ones. The practice launcher is a version of the LAW but the Mauser C96 pistol is a bit different and depending on markings and condition quite sought-after. Keep me in mind when you want to get rid of them :-)

Anyone seen the organist in the atrium of Glasgow's museum ( modern art?) playing life on Mars yesterday? He was on r5 this afternoon. He listened to it a couple of times on Monday and played it through on the huge church organ from memory.

Never saw the appeal of flipper the first time around - but sniggered when she got duped by Brass Eye - I thought it was the cake one, but it turned out to be the peadogeddon one.  Don't wish her any ill, just don't get the appeal.

They're showing that on telly here at the moment. Well, in between the adverts.

off of the ebay thread, the recently imported diddy jap fire engine but well worth reposting here, just because....

And just in case anyone still thinks that a (proper) organ is just a piano with pipes, and it wouldn't need much practise to play:

Posted

those big organs are a work of art, and the skill needed to play one is just awsum!

there was a series of shorts on BBC2 years ago, 20th Century Bach, that i found fascinating.

i know nothing about classical music, but i was certainly impressed.

Wow! And some people don't seem to be able to cope with just 3 pedals..

I love pipe organs.

Remember Hinterland? Well, it turns out it wasn't just Mrs DW and myself who appeared in it...

Should be a grump as it cost me money and caused mess but my twattishness grows with every day.

Yesterday afternoon, my delivery driver left me all the stuff I'd need to service a customers car for this morning, she left between a bus and the front door of my workshop.

This morning, I opened up, jumped in the bus and pulled outside, huge pop/bang noise followed

Got out of bus to find I'd driven over the lot! £60 odd quids worth of parts, the air and pollen boxes were damaged but filters were ok.

The only casualty was the five litres bottle of 5w30 that was all over the floor, never mind,it's only Wednesday, two more days to fuck up yet

This one's quite impressive too, in its own way.

Strangely, towards the end of last week I was listening to Classic FM in the car on the way into work, and they played an arrangement of "Life on Mars" for orchestra - sounded superb.  I'd never heard a Bowie song on Classic FM before - timing was a little spooky.

Met another shiter and serial R8 botherer tonight, JohnK this time, and yet again another really nice person.  He brought me Squashed Rover diddy badges for my other two alloys, a good front door card and a pair of brand new sills for a very reasonable sum.  I ended up being accidentally antisocial doing work-stuff while he and Mike had a chinwag in the kitchen.

Chompy's 216SLi has donated a surprisingly large amount of things to my 414SLi:

Headlights

a front indicator

bonnet

a front wing

steering wheel

gear knob

piece of interior grab handle trim

front driver's door card (the very same mentioned above)

boot spoiler

two quarter light badges (used as centre cap badges on the alloys)

Is that Rex Garrod? I used to live just down the road from his place in Mickfield - its a shame if it is, did he not do all sorts of robotic stuff for special effects in big hollywood movies of the 80s and early 90s?
