Please tell me they've got that D-reg Rover 825i in there? If so, I'll be making a pilgrimage.

Are D reg 825i's rare? I'm sure there's one in Colchester I saw last summer.

I've got good news for you sir! It is very much there. So is the last Montego and the last Metro-esque 100 - both signed by the workers.

YAAAAH! :D

Yeah, cos somewhere I've got a free ticket. It's one of those pay-once, years-admission places.

Because you're a jinx

No, tis the law of cheap french chod, fix one thing and another breaks. I fixed the hydro suspension on my xm, then the sunroof started leaking. I re bushed the rear axle and put new calipers on my zx, the rear wiper motor dismantled itself... Vulgalour had it a bit on the xantia when it was his, chompy gets it every now and again.

Remember your xsara bub? You hero'd the rear axle back together the day before sf15 then it pissed itself throughout the day after...

Be aware that the museum is CLOSING fully on 30th November. It won't reopen until February 13th when the whole place will have had a makeover. And they'll have finished the horrific roadworks outside. It's ruddy horrible there at the moment (new slip road direct from the motorway!).

As for the P8, I chatted with one of the top blokes and they're very keen to crack on with it. They're after funding and it will need a LOT of work.

In other news, I may have had a fantastic day, but it was still brightened further by this Mk3 Cortina encounter on the way home. WOW.

Currently in Colombia, which is an Autoshiter's dream destination. Long 30km ride from the airport in Medellin today in a Renault 9 taxi which stank of neat petrol and had a driver determined to be in the boot of the cars in front,

Plenty of other locally-made Renaults on the roads including 4s, 12s and 18s. Our first taxi in Bogota had a mere 810,000km on the clock. That'll be the Daewoo.

The Chinese-makes-you've-never heard of are now appearing big time here, the ones with generic Jap/Korean clones and snappy model names like a 230SY.HW2367.XE1239Z

Having finally (hopefully) tracked down the reason for the errant speedometer and weird gear shifting on the Mercury. This from the Taurus forum USA

The speed sensor drive gear was removed from the transmission and was indeed worn, only making intermittent contact.

This part being the offending item

Spent ages trying to track one down as NLA from Ford, but found a stock in Tampa Florida. Ordered one Monday evening and just had an email from Fedex to say it is in transit and will be delivered before 12 noon tomorrow!

Florida to me in two days? Made me grin!

Assuming it is the correct part and actually arrives.

Listening to Radar Love..

Need to get out for an early blast one weekend!

Our fence was in a right old state this morning but the landlords have thanked me and the neighbours for making it safe (bodging it with pallets) and will be round tonight to assess it.

They are going to fix it for free too which is a big grin as I was about to spend a £lots on wood to do it myself.

I'm surprised our fence is still standing after last night, one of the posts is only held up by the panels I think!

Was wheelie bin chaos this morning though, and someone over the way lost a few panels as they were laying in the garden

I've just been out to take a couple of panels out of our fence in the hope it won't be destroyed by the winds, it's screwed with liberal use of boot dubbing to seal and lubethe ascrews, so it was easy enough. I had to put one back though, as next door's grandwean's Wendy Hoose would have been blown away...

Update.

The part for the Mercury did arrive and was the correct part.

The speed of delivery was astonishing. Dunno if FedEx are always this efficient as never previously used them. Check out the timeline:

Of course bits for a Mercury will turn up quick. He is the god of moving stuff from A to B, if he can't get something delivered pronto, nobody can.

I gave up using FedEx here, they don't have a presence in Croatia so they go through an agent here, D. B. Schenker. All was fine until it reached customs, whereupon the agents arsed about for almost 2 weeks, demanding various proofs of purchase, bank details and even a power of attorney. Then they sent me an inexplicably huge bill for their services*, more than doubling the cost of the order. My wife tried to extract an explanation from them but they just avoided the question, so then she tried to cancel the order but was threatened with legal action, unless the bill was paid. They even threatened to empty her bank accounts using the power of attorney. I tried numerous times to complain to FedEx but the moment they see I'm coming from Croatia they forward any correspondence to their local agents, who I was trying to complain about. Phoning up offices in other countries had about the same result as all they could tell me to do was contact the local agents. In the end I fired off a load of nasty emails and gave up as it was all I could think about.

So, FedEx can FRO as far as I'm concerned.
