What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Also the (nearly) midnight dash home along some narrow winding country lanes in the A35 was good fun :D

"Dash" and "A35" are two words that you do not often see in the same sentence.

Making me grin today was seeing a spotless P-reg Galaxy VR6 giving it some beans up the road past the office as I walked into work. It's been a long time since I heard such a wonderfully incongruous noise coming from a vehicle.

Making me grin this morning was the bright yellow Mk1 Fiesta hurtling up the A1M just ahead of me near Peterboghorror. No pics as I was driving, but glad to see it all the same.

I needed to get some more paint mixed up in a spray can for my current attempts at smartening the Minx a little. On Monday I drove down to the localish place that made the last lot a couple of years ago (which frustratingly was not a very good match) but there was a note on the door -they'd just closed the business. :(

So I hunted around for somewhere else withing reach and rang a place in Hanwell, West London - seemed very nice on the phone. Went down there with ickle_Seth on Wed morning. They had some trouble finding the colour etc but ended up doing a small amount in a cup first to see how it compared to the bit of chopped off bodywork I'd taken with - Looked perfect so they mixed up a couple of cans. We'd been waiting there quite a while and they were impressed by Ickle_Seths patience so they went and got a present for her - a small fury Dulux dog! Top notch service from a happy, family type business. :D

I've had a go with the paint this morning and it is absolutely bang on colour. Very happy indeed. Compare the freshly painted front of the wing to the exisiting patches at the back...

Yesterday I picked up some metal barrels - wanted one to cut down and use for filling with Deox C for removing rust from bigger car parts. Got there only to find they are alu. beer barrels... :? Errr.

Quids in at the scrapyard, or sell them to Retroriders wanting weird shit to put on the roofrack!

Seth that Minx is looking a lot better :D !

Saw a Renault Estafette yesterday for the first time. Was parked up on some land in a private estate what could probably be classed as the middle of nowhere. I didnt actually know it was an Estafette, had a quick look at it i passing and noted the plate to look up later. No pics unfortunately.

It was in a military green, and I was going to suggest it may have turned that colour after being parked near/under a tree for an age, out of action.

However, somebody is still bothered about it:

Is it just me or does it look as if it's in the middle of doing a massive big burp?.

I'm grinning as i might be buying a bit of OJC tomorrow, Totally opposite to what i have been looking at but also a lot less grief as well.

Ebay messages.

Tonight I got a question asking if I worked in a local village garage and drove an orange Opel back in the '80's.Thinking it might be an old school friend I replied with a yes, that's me.

Turns out to be a fella who did a three week work experience at the garage I worked in.The schoolkids were often refered to as "boy" even though I was probably only a few years older. This fella reminded me of his nickname. How could I forget "bog-buster".There used to be an old wheel rawl bolted to the wall of the washroom where the hosepipe lived.Yep,somehow this skinny little fifteen year old kid managed to rip the wheel off the wall smashing the toilet bowl in the process. So for a few days I was deprived of my 10 O'clock morning dump and due to this every night just before we locked up to go home I would throw his push bike on the roof of the washroom.Must have made a lasting impression as twenty odd years later this "boy" wants to know if I am that chap.

Being reminded of a time when going to work was a laugh made me smile

Just got Cavettes old Apple mac working after weeks of messing about!!! Well, it was a clever friend with zero mac expeirience who managed it in 20 min. Some webpages refuse to load, fortunately Autoshite works instantly! :)

Oh yeah, im no longer a lorryist anymore. I now work for a company that supplys electronic conponents, My job is to assemble kits from stores for clients. Easy work, good, regular hours, plus theres a bit of a career ladder to climb. Great. First time in 10 years ive been off the road and ive never been happier.

Bloody hell. Not that beige Charmant?:D:wink:

Edit - no, it's a Colt Celeste! That looks so so nice, always fancied one of these, and that's probably the best colour for them 8)8)8)

Yeah, like a cheeky drunken belch out of the side of the mouth.

Good luck with the Celeste, it looks very nice!!!!!

Nearly swapped the 4.2 for an MX5 earlier. Bloke loved the Rover but thought it was too much work for him. Fair enough.

Later on got a phone call from a bloke in Cheshire who's just bought a Vitesse and finds it a bit slow. He's coming to have a look next week.

Also, the 3.5's temp gauge has started doing its mental 130°C reading stunt again, but the engine isn't anywhere near that temp. I've measured the coolant temp, and when it's at 70°C the gauge is reading 100°C, when the actual coolant temp is 86°C the gauge is reading 120°C. Even though I know it is lying, it still makes me a touch uneasy. So checking it's still lying has cheered me up.

Other than that, I've done bugger all today. Which is nice.

Driving :D

Got a potential buyer coming to look at the carlsson tomorrow so I thought I would take her out for a special run. Forgotten how much empty roads, cool temps (for the boost), turbo and a decent chassis can make you smile. Did 120 miles and still grinning.

Will be gutted when she goes (proper ties your stomach in knots gutted) but it is better to regret something you have done than regret something you havent ..

Plus I will have to replace her with some shite ..

Celeste was picked up by its new owner yesterday. Gutted it's gone, but it did less than 300 miles in the 2 years I owned it and with that and the Piazza it stretched me way too thinly.

The £550 I received in exchange was nice though. Bloke seemed made up and at least I didn't have to deal with endless morons on RR \ eBay etc.

Just had a PM from someone on here to let me know that he has bought a rather interesting and rare car thanks to a recent spot of mine 8)

Going to watch a trackday at Cadwell Park, and then talking to an old collector/Shiter at Scamblesby Filling Station, who has 4 Maestros.

Signed myself up to a local kickboxing club after I jacked it in 6/7 years ago, which I've spent being fat and slobby. I'm actually really looking foward to it!

New job starts tomorrow, I've given the old 626 a clean up this evening so I can pretend I'm an executive for the extremely brief commute. Looking forward to it, though I presume the actual job will be pretty unrewarding as they always are.

I also heard Matalan were knocking out "Man From Del Monte" linen suits for £35 so I popped in today - sadly they were the wrong size. If I could have scored one of those for my first day, it would have been perfect. Never mind, I've still got the beige/plaid one and a selection of horrid ties to make a great first impression.

Saw a very tidy and original looking H reg Hillman Hunter coming the other way when I was in the A35 earlier - flash and wave :D

Can't remember the last time I saw one outside a show.
