What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Where is the collection thread?

Ha! As much as I'd like to see it again I'm not sure I'm going to get all 'Bornite' over it! I do wonder if the piece of paper with my name and date on it that I put behind the plastic electric window switch cover in the centre console back in 1995 is still there?

Two new springs and top mounts fitted to the picasso. 175k on clock and doing a sterling job of being a general vehicle. Random message from a friend yesterday too. Would I be interested in a 2005 Citroen picasso 2.0 hdi. Been sat for a year due to timing belt slipping. Went to have a look and all the interior is spotless ( mine is very worn with a knackered drivers seat). Had new clutch less than 200 mile ago,now Pas pump and exhaust at same time just before timing slipped. Said I can have it for a ton. Should be able to put interior in mine, spare headlights, tail lights etc and turbo plus other engine ancillaries and sell off the doors etc to make money back.

I’d be seriously considering swapping the head from yours onto the new one and using that?

That's an idea but mine has long MOT,that has none. Also insurance, putting tax to disabled and the fact that the engine is an unknown where as mine is a strong engine considering it's on 180k. Also my bodywork is a lot less crumbly. Previous owner made sure it wanted for nothing, owned it for 8 years. Shame he didn't look after the interior!

Down to two cars for the first time in ages. Feels good. Decided it's not worth selling the 19, I'll just insure it somehow.

Also I forgot how good a decent manual gearbox is. Months of automatics sure made me lazy.

Can you fit a dimmer switch to them?

Are they any better than they used to be , I tried one years ago and it buzzed , we're having a shift about in the spring so they're probably going in the hall

I have these.

LED ready, remote control available, no buzz. Bit poncy but there was a reason behind it!

We both like to read in bed but there's nowhere to put a bedside lamp because of fitted wardrobes that fit around the bed, so I decided to get a remote control switch so that we can finish reading and turn the light off without having to get up to turn the light off then get back into bed in the dark.

I got the double switch pictured for the living room, without a remote, because the existing one buzzed and because I knew it was too old to successfully drive LEDs. We have those stupid flush-to-the-ceiling lamps and I can't bear halogen inside a house.

If you do all that then frag the remains there's a few quid in that isnt there? Tow it to the scrappy with the trike!

It's what I did with the laguna's, felt quite nice swapping interior light covers over just because I could and knowing I'd saved £15 worth of parts from ebay (that I would never have bought, but that's not the point)

Worth keeping the clutch on the shelf just incase (or is yours an auto?)

ECP sell Tamiya RC cars, anybody know if the 60% off codes work for them?

Almost every model they've got listed has got a few % off the RRP - I think the codes only work on things that aren't already discounted so I bet that's how they've swerved that issue. Because I'd definitely have a Vanessa's Lunchbox for £40-odd!

We've just got a cord-pull light switch above the bed... ;)

That would do the job just as well!!

Had an offer on our house yesterday for the full asking price.  Buyers have no chain and are an attorney and doctor so sale should go through no issues.

This is making me grin as it's one step closer to moving back to the UK and joining the SVM.

Whereabouts you moving to?

They look identical to the many similar ones available on eBay etc - does it require a neutral wire at the switch? Seems to be a common problem with these things and typical U.K. wiring

I *think* so, I remember there was a reason why I spent a bit more money at a UK based website rather than eBay but I can't now remember what that was.

Yup, I could do with some Zigbee switches to control a few rooms where I've got more lights than switches (everywhere else I'm using smart bulbs, but that's prohibitive where I've got a row of GU10s). Almost all the cheap ones need a neutral as the switch needs it's own power as well as passing power on to the bulb. Talking £45 rather than £15 which is annoying.

I need dimmers (house full of VERY bright LED downlighting in abundance which I have confirmed as dimmable) but I want smart control too ideally

Just watched bits and pieces of The Orville. OMG it is bloody funny.

You can buy dimmable remote control bulbs dirt cheap off eBay. I got 10 GU10 type complete with 2 controllers for £18. They can change colour if required and can be set to about 8 different intensities.

the 05 plate one is an SX trim so has map lights and a better interior with armrests,my hdi is a lowly lx with no air con or anything so all the better bits will be swapped over. The clutch, box and engine ancillaries will be going in a box. The clutch will probably go into mine too.

I'll have two cats to dispose of if of interest. I plan to remove cat off of mine and use the spares car exhaust pieces to make a decat pipe so will have 2 2.0 hdi cats. Both not very old. Exact age though is unknown. Mines been on about 2 years I think.

I don’t think the bulbs are replaceable

That’s a bit crap, on some you can get them out the back so might be worth a look.

Aberdeen.  Well, in the area so Inverurie, Banchory or Stonehaven probably.  Quite happy with that, lived in Aberdeen 2001-2004 so we know what it's like and have a few friends and acquaintances in the area still.

Rat look Dyson Airblade...Must be East London.f3c7eb1fcebe4d2dd2a4b57426aba595.jpg

Its not been rat-looked, that's what the early ones look like now when no one empties them and they just rust and blow the powder coating off!
