Congratulations on your anniversary. We reach 20 years this year.

What Lake District events are you referring to? We normally go to Austin Counties Car Club National Rally in June (West Yorks this year) and have been to Tatton Park Classic shows in the past.

Congratulations to you too! :)

A few to go at (I can PM details of any that tickle your fancy)

28/5: Rampside, Barrow

17/6: Grasmere

15/7: Retro Rendezvous, Ulverston

12/8: Grange-over-Sands

Plus monthly meets at the Lakeland Motor Museum and Walney Island.

Saw an old Fiesta today. Reg number ABC 123

Ratio of car value / plate value?

When I was little I went for a piss once and it came out bright red! It’s quite shocking when you see that and you start fearing the worst.

It turned out it was the masses of pickled beetroot I’d been wolfing down earlier that day! I used to love the stuff.

Solved the red pee mystery but god knows what all that vinegar was doing to me.

I did the same. Gave myself quite a scare, but it seems hilarious now.

Ratio of car value / plate value?

To me? 1/1, with both being worth the square root of FA.

Old Fiesta like a mint Mk1 Supersport, or old Fiesta like a widemouth Mk5 with the filler cap rotted out, patchwork sills and the drivers door frame bent out of shape?

Been playing with this old Supra the last couple of days.

Ever since my Son has owned it the brake pedal has had way too much travel and it felt like the rears were not doing anything so it was booked into a "Jap car Specialist" and left with them as a fill in job to sort out the poor brakes.

Fast forward a few months and the Toyota still had useless brakes and guesses of faulty master cylinder or servo were being mentioned so it got dropped off to me for a look.

I quickly tried bleeding it the old fashioned way with a bit of hose submerged into some brake fluid in a "pop bottle" while an assistant pumped the pedal but it made no difference to the long pedal,so i splashed out £14 on a Vacuum brake bleeder off of Ebay and although it bled the front calipers fine the rears were full of air or not pulling any fluid at all.

It was getting a bit annoying now but then i noticed the rear calipers are handed with a big R or L on each one.

This was my Eureka moment.

The calipers had been fitted to the wrong side of the car (upside down) and because of this the bleed nipples were below where the brake hose entered the caliper so you had no chance of getting trapped air out of them and a decent pedal.

With the calipers fitted up the right way it took seconds to correctly bleed thru and get a solid pedal.

Not sure how much my Son has spent with the "Specialist" but i think they're going to be getting a call.

Am I being stupider than normal or is that a photograph of some kind of paint sprayer connected to the brake bleed nipple of a hover car?

Posted

Its a vacuum brake bleeder. Im more concerned with the total lack of shroud around the fan.....thats asking for finger removal.

Lovely car though.

edit - too slow

One of these.

It works really well but you do need a good constant 80psi of wind for it to do its job.

Every now and again i get a run of small Fiats that have broken their plastic clutch slave cylinder to clutch arm operating rods allowing the piston/seal to pop out the end of the cylinder.

It's easy to use a bit of studding to replace the plastic rod but they can be a sod to bleed out at the side of the road so i am hoping this toy will save me some roadside grief.

Been helping the Accounts department out at work with migrating a major account onto a new system - been a bit of a drag over the last few months but pretty much got where we needed to be.  Today was the day the old system got switched off, and mid-morning two of the women from Accounts who'd been involved in the project appeared at my desk with a box of 12 Krispy Kreme doughnuts that they'd bought (with their own money) as a thank you.  I was genuinely touched.  Unfortunately they chose to buy them on the first day in over a month that my whole team was in the office, so I didn't get to scoff quite as many myself as I might have, but still a really nice gesture and cheered me up for the rest of the day.

erm

It took me an embarrassing amount of time to work out what was wrong with that

Being on holiday. OK it's only northern France for three days, but that's all we can afford at the moment, and Mrs T has been off work with stress recently so 'abroad' makes it feel like an escape (exit strategy is planned so her place can FRO as far as I'm concerned). The ex-Bo11ox Rover has been fautless over 630 miles, so I'm chuffed with that too. Cheers Bo11 it's a cracker.

Already eyeing up the next trip. I want to go to Sweden via the Öresund bridge. Any tips?

Any tips?

Keep on going until you get to Finland, then buy an old Datsun wagon and drive it home to a hero's welcome.

To do it properly, visit at least one titty bar and urinate on at least one Lego Christmas tree on the way back.

Mrs T is broad minded so a titty bar/piss soaked Christmas tree is doable. A Datsun wagon is probably beyond my means sadly.

Sold a spare wheel (another 99p ebay job) to a chap who came to pick it up yesterday in an absolute mint Saab 93 Aero estate. Like this one:

but blue. I told him about this place. Not sure if he took my comment that posts about his car would be very welcome on this website called Autoshite in quite the way I intended it but maybe he'll pop along.

I'm a curmudgeonly old sod when it comes to going to concerts with my wife, as too often she wants to go and see some right old tripe of a band. That said, you do have to be picky in NZ, it's hardly wall to wall mega artists.

Months ago she nagged me to buy tickets for Prophets of Rage, a band I hadn't heard of at the time. Wasn't too bothered myself but I'd said 'no' too many times before and so started listening to their album and generally feigning excitement.

Anyway, went to see them last night and I'll admit, it was a bloody good night! 3 members of Rage Against The Machine, 2 from Public Enemy and a guy from Cypress Hill make up the band and they all performed really well. Then a bonus guest was Serj Tankian, from System of a Down singing a tribute to Chris Cornell (Like a Stone). Just like that, boom, members from 4 massive US bands performing on a small-ish stage in NZ, to perhaps a crowd of a couple of thousand people. No sell out mega venue here (loads of spare seats had been covered up and an entire floor was empty!)

After playing a load of varied stuff including a bunch of Rage Against The Machine tracks, they finished off with Killing in The Name, which was our penultimate song at our wedding, so you can't say fairer than that.

Cheers lads!

You mean a Saab 9-5 Aero Estate, yes? 'Cos that's what the piccy is of :-)

I'm not sure I'll ever have a slot for a 'normal' estate car in my fleet again, but if I do a manual Saab 9-5 Aero Estate will be a serious contender.

Yes, sorry. Not got a wealth of knowledge of Saabs. Great looking cars though.

just watching Top Gear from Sunday, fast winding through shite and then get to Chris Harris 2CV

What a beautiful thing and he is genuinely in love with it. And has resisted painting it.

A+++++++

I want a 2CV in my life now - bastards

And then predictable cuntish behaviours with basket of eggs.

Totally unnecessary

2CV racing bit was fun.

rest of the show was pointless.

Condense a 1h show into 5 mins of actual entertainment

bonus points if it's Mrs T that has the "tree interface"
