She was invited to a garden party at Buckingham palace but for the life of me cannot think why- may have been guiding, she was highish up. She went in our friends chauffeured Citroen traction avant - right to the gates!

 

I did give her a lift down to Brighton in the X1/9 once on the 2cv London to Brighton, so she'd like the mx5!

Motherly_Micra went to Mahmouds garage today for clutch replacement. Got halfway through and found the wrong part was delivered. So, got given a battered W-reg KA as a courtesy car until Micra is done.

 

KA drove fine, like a tighter and slightly more responsive Mk3 Fiesta, it also sounded just as clattery. Wheel bearing have a slight rumble, it smells a bit of dog and was quite untidy inside. Seat bolster isn't anymore, and there is various corrosion around the car as well as dented/damaged panels. Faded Poundland wheel trims finish this off.

It's 6AM and I have a train ticket in my wallet. Yay, it's another collection. Not a particularly exciting one but I'm looking forward to it anyway, even if it is Stevenage. Nice day to be out traveling around the country.

I was up at the mot centre at 7.30am for the Dolomites mot.

 

 

Considering how rough it was when I bought it and how many things it should have failed it's last mot on (before I bought it) I was a tat worried.

 

 

Result! I need to adjust the rear brake but other than that a straight pass!

Funnily enough, the last time I went to Stevenage was in about 2000, for my dad to swap his troublesome Toyota Avensis 1.6 company car for a Rover 416Si they had going spare.

Finally got off my arse and crawled under the Cherry. I can't find any problems with the linkage so I assume the box must be knackered. I did cure an annoying rattle though and found an exhaust blow while I was at it.

Why do car child seats have to be so big and bulky?  I can get three in the back of the Focus diesel no problem... Off to find a fast saloon to replace it with I think.

 

 

 

Chompy demonstrated you can get three full size child seats in the back of an MG ZT without difficulty and they are a fast saloon car.  You can also get a pram in the boot and the week's shopping while still having enough room in the cabin for two adults, three children and all their seats.  I was astonished when I saw it done.

Well, still no word on the Micra, I was hoping this would be the case as it would mean travelling to Birmingham and shifting cars between Ma's house and Mahmouds garage givng me little time to get to course. Now hopefully I'll have a more relaxing day. Just course and back home.

 

Booked in BMW to Rybrook BMW for recall work, should be interesting as I've never taken my own car to a dealer for work before.

Will you still get all that shopping, etc. in a ZT260 though, isn't the boot smaller due to the rear axle?

 

I've just had an interesting moment with the Land Rover; about two weeks ago the brake servo failed so a new one was fitted. Today when driving out of a car-park I had a bit of coughing and spluttering with it, nothing unusual it does that sometimes, but when I went to use the brake I had a very hard pedal. Went around the block and the spluttery misfire was still there and brake pedal still very hard. Poppped the bonnet and noticed that where the vacuum hose attaches to the servo there was a hole beneath the hose that looked like it should have a plug in it

I went back around the same road and pulled up where it had first played up, I had a walk up the road and my "eagle eyes" spotted a small black plastic piece on the side of the road. Yes it was the missing plug, slightly mangled as it must have been run over, but it did fit back in. The barkes are now back to normal and misfire gone, I made an emergency purchase of some gaffer tape (yes I know I should always keep some in the car, but I have used it to mend the kitchen sofa) plug is now gaffer taped over to stop it falling out.

To be fair I've spent the last half hour searching for more compact child seats to squeeze into the Focus. That's proved quite successful actually as opposed to changing car.

 

I don't want a people carrier - been there and done that with a Zafira as a dog van a few years back. Plus, at some point three kids will have to fit in the back of an e23 and the rear seats aren't huge in them tbh.

 

Worst case scenario the ST will be sold and I will replace it with an S-Max with the same engine! Options to avoid that will be used I reckon.

Lots of Volvos come with built in booster seats dating back to 850s and 940s and I'm sure you could fit three seats across.

I was actually gonna suggest an 850r/t5 for Mr_K's fast car, same engine as the focus ST innit

Currently depressed with Wales' efforts at twickenham. But before that I polished the car with poorboys black hole and blue paste stuff. Looks quite good.

 

Also it's been Spring-like today, with a nice sunset.

The p6 is still wazzing out water as one of the ancient jubilee clips is knackered. Also the hoses aren't that great either. There;s a guy on eBay selling full new hose sets for 40 quid, which I recon is worthwhile.

It's also still a pig to start I think the manual choke either isn't opening all the way or one of the carbs is opening more than the other. Once I applied the secondary choke it started fine.
