sounds like he llives where there arent any

Preston... Must be quite a few!

If he's been driving it into central London every day, I'm surprised.

If he's been driving it like a good boy out in the sticks for 9 years... not that surprised. Even less so if the trailer reg matches the correct reg.

What vehicle does the incorrect reg come back as on askmid?

Mainly driven around Lancashire/Lake District/Yorkshire. Will ask him to check askmid though out of interest. I can't remember the first part of the reg so can't do it myself.

Dropped the 940 in for its MOT this morning, had a chat with Bob the mechanic who does all my cars now and heard myself utter the fateful words 'I can't think of anything it would fail on' - oops.  In all honesty though, although the front tyres are a bit crap but legal (next thing on my list to change) and there's a small leak on a power steering pipe which was an advisory last year so will be again as I haven't done anything about it yet, otherwise it's pretty sorted so fingers crossed.

I've ordered a shiny new heater matrix for it from Latvia of all places for £18 - bit of a gamble admittedly, hopefully it won't turn out to be made of old Fanta cans and silly string.  We'll see.  If it lasts a couple of years I'll be happy, it's got to be better than the current one which looks rather crusty and is providing a small but consistent supply of water for the driver's footwell.

I was also pleased with managing to fix the broken clutch pedal pivot on the master cylinder last week by dismantling it properly and superglueing it back together - it's held up for a couple of hundred miles so far, hopefully it'll mean I don't need to faff around changing the master cylinder after all.

As long as both reg numbers are road legal the ANPR wouldn't give a shit.....

That is true... Hadn't thought of that!

Changed the auto transmission fluid on the hearse today. The local Vauxhall dealer was so hopeless they didn't even know what the transmission filter was as they told me it didn't have one. I got one from the local transmission rebuilders in the end. I doubt it had ever been changed and the old fluid stinks something awful. Fresh fluid in it now so it is nearly ready for it's first show outing with the classic hearse register a week on Saturday.

and if the vehicle that rear belongs to is parked up off road somewhere some poor sod is wondering why dvla are insisting it must be in use...................

Posted

That's true as well, although if the car was being spotted by the same few camera's sort of regularly then I'm sure a traffic car would have been sat there at some point..

This is the trouble letting computers having anything to do with laws.

Or someone got a speeding fine etc.... Genuine mistake though. He had just never noticed, as 8 MOT testers didn't either. He is getting a correct plate made up later today apparently.

So much for square one...

Last night I was browsing cars on eBay just out of interest seeing as that Lexus I mentioned disappeared.

I noticed this ad:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A4-QUATTRO-SPORT-2-6-MANUAL-RETRO-CLASSIC-4X4-/201373472498?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ee2cb56f2

and showed it to Old Man.

Today, we all got in the Bini and went about 7 miles:

We were met with this:

We've had a good look round and there's a good, honest car under the questionable decals and numberplates (seems the ad photos are a few months old). Needs a good clean and a few trivial bits, but it drives smooth and it's not been messed about or anything. Got the price down to £1150 which is pretty good for 77k - there's a knackered blue one with big wheels and on 150k up for £795 on the bay of E.

Collectionage tomorrow, no thread but maybe a pez station shot if I'm lucky.

As such, the Civic is for sale.

Took Merc to garage to get the steering tracked but it turns out that one track-rod end is siezed so will be replaced.

This actually happened yesterday but, I got up early and took the Mercury down the road to a classic car specialists workshop to get some problems sorted. I went early to avoid traffic (the car cuts out every time you take your foot of the gas so traffic can be a nightmare!).

So the drive down was bliss, empty roads, bright sunshine and a brilliant car to drive - lovely!

I got down there nice and early and had about an hour to kill before anyone arrived to give the car to, so I had some fun on the empty roads around the industrial estate.

Big engine + shit handling + empty roads = f*****g great fun!!

This car really is a great way to piss a load of money up the wall! Just aswell as the bill for the work I'm having done looks like it's going to be eye watering!

!!!!!! Is that what those are worth? Is it a V6 petrol?

Yep, 2.6 V6, 150bhp, same as the Audi 80 and 100 IIRC. There's a later 2.8 with 190ish. Neither come up that often.

It goes pretty bloody well.

Cherry has a fresh ticket, it wasn't straight through as it initially failed with play in a track rod end and different coloured headlights.

Grin: boss has purchased me a new shift bus; in true SVM style it's a '93 K Volvo B10M Mk.3 with facelift Van Hool Alizee T8 bodywork. It replaces a Plaxton-bodied '88 F Volvo B10M Mk.2

Grump: It's got no MOT, no tax, no heaters, it's bright fucking orange and it's in Berkshire. Oh, and it looks like I'm going to get it on Friday.

Via Skegness. But I only have transport as far as Skegness, then I need to make my own way to Wokingham.
