In Japan you can find a vending machine with anything.

I actually have seen one selling used lady underwear. I really did.

Yeah happy birthday indeed! Who needs anybody else when you can buy yourself a Rover 60. Delightful.

I'm rather chuffed. Seller was a pretty good chap although he missed out the not charging bit. Friday was spent going to Whitehaven then driving an unseen 60 year old car along A roads back to Birmingham. Almost got back but ran out of electricity on the A34 just outside Stone. Simple Dynamo and twin coil control box so not a fantastic problem to sort, I hope.

It's the poverty 60 model with the 2 litre four ioe engine. All round drums with no servo makes interesting driving for someone who's daily is a BX!

Seller noticed the fuel gauge wasn't working when he went to it before I got there so he gave me a ton back and filled the car to the brim so, as it stands, it owes me a shade over 2 and a half. Not the worst buy in the world.

That P4 is lovely, and well worth the price. Just make sure you start it using the handle on every possible occasion, to confuse people !

Starting handle present and correct. Tools are in the tray too. I've a feeling I'm going to enjoy this summer!

You're lucky that everything is there, parts prices can be very steep (because of CLASSIC SCENE TAX).

Mine is missing half of its tools, but at £100 for a complete kit I don't think I'll bother. It was bad enough paying £9 for a rusty AC breather cap !

Happy Birthday Andy! Nice pressie!

Happy birthday sir! That's a bloody cracking present as well, you lucky sod...

I've just realised something. UNX was issued in Dudley, in fact not a mile from where the photos were taken. Rover has come home! I wonder how long it's been away?

Posted

Seems to be an influx of these old "Auntie" Rovers cropping up recently. Probably best to grab them now while they are still relatively cheap!

i thought with hinges on the left, so holds up unhinged side?

nup...always down towards the lower hinge.

The way you have it works if the diagonal brace is under tension....ie a wire or cable brace, but done with a bit of wood like that the gate will droop down on the unhinged side.

Driving through the Wester Ross in the Highlands. T series Powah in 2nd and 3rd in this R8 made light work of the steep hairpin bends. Some sections felt more like being on an Alpine pass than Scotland.....

IMP News......

A guy in the imp forum, bodyshop/restorer of excellent repute, has just launched [very appropriate verb] a BMW bike engined Clan.

The flat K100BMW engine fits totally as a replacement of the Rootes all-ally 875.

..looking forward to him fitting out some of the HotShoes in the club.

Tedium: I am informed the Bini wheels have arrived. I'll have a nose tomorrow, supopsedly they're better than expected.

Another 850 annoyance fixed today. I can't see how the bungee cord does anything but it got through the MOT last year.

£3.60 for two of these clamps (in case that one goes missing) and a pair of clear side repeaters. I don't really want clear ones but one of mine has a broken clip and there weren't any orange ones.

On the M25, overtaken by a P38 Range Rover doing about 90. It had the big, blingy wheels and NO SPRINGS!

It was terrifying to see, bouncing and pitching like it was in the Paris-Dakar Rally, daylight between tyres and road, lurching and twitching.

Presumably the air suspension had died but to keep driving it at speed........Don't these things have a big red STOP or DIE light like Citroens?

Posted

Talking of Citroens, I clocked up 200 miles in the XM today, driving to Swindon and back to look at a minibus. What a wonderful car. Here it is taking in some Welsh scenery while I wrestled with an escaped lamb.

With all this 305 excitement, let us turn our thoughts to the fate of the poor old knobvan, for no other reason than I can nick it's wheels if it's buggered :D
