Hmmm. Perhaps the time has come then? I did the same with mine in 2001- px d it for the cx dtr.

Rear sweeps, sills floors plus the rest. As much as iit pains me to think, it could be financially silly to repair what you have. Mehari etc are a reasonable re body but not cheap obviously. Just don't go for a deauville kit for gods sake.

Oh financially, it makes no sense at all. But if car purchases were based purely on financial sense, the classic car world wouldn't exist. Certainly, restoration cases would just be binned instead!

Very true. My sister has now owned " our" 2cv for 19 years. Several times its value has probably been spent, but c'est un art de vivre as the sticker says.

Here's the car we got married in. Well, more like on really. She has become a garage recluse. :(

Just read your blog article, nicely written, it's a genuinely sad moment!  Doesn't look too terrible in the photos, but then they never do.  Could you learn to weld and do the repairs yourself?  Probably one of the better cars to work on I'd imagine (whilst knowing nothing about welding).

2CV's are pretty tricky to weld, but very easy to blow holes in. I don't really have anywhere to work on the car, as the garage is part of the house. Which means any stinks from the garage end up filling the whole house. I forgot to mention the rotten rear inner wings - one is largely aluminium tape. The first rule of restoration is to cut back to good metal. I'm really not sure where you'd find any!

Not beyond, and definitely not that scary. Must admit, the metal is perilously thin even when good. My old one was sills, rear inner wings, rear floor, bottom of bulkhead and rear window bottoms. Not easy but if I can do it...

Is it not quite straight forward to blow the 2cv apart? If you get it like this then welding it should be much more straight forward as access will be easy. I'm not saying you do this this weekend. Even if you spend a couple of years doing it and slowly collecting all the parts you need it'll get there. Have a weld party at your house, give everyone you know who can weld burgers and beer and get them to come and weld it up.

Every shitefest we pop round Dollys place and help him do a bit more, be that welding, spannering or smoke containment. In between these events he scours sheds, barns and possibly even buys the required bits ready for the next event.

A bit like car SOS but uglier and in extreme slo-mo.

Oh they certainly come apart easily enough, which is why my plan is to save up and simply buy another bodyshell. I really enjoyed that 2CV Mythbusters though. I was verging on Myth with that story anyway. Direct drive from brake drum to tyre though! Awesome.

In other news I have run the first full tank of pez through the Escort and according to my sums it has returned a mildly disappointing 31mpg. Thats actually worse than the bloody Land Rover. I hope it gets better as I get used to driving it.....Lack of torque compared to the diesel chod I normally rattle around in means I am often in too high a gear.

Also, I get MASSIVE static electricity shocks from the door when I get out after a run. Never had that problem with any other car before.

Second tank down today and it took 36 litres to refill (1/4 left on the gauge) and did 487km since the last fill so thats a more pleasant 38mpg.

Vehicle two - gifferspec golf - failed MOT on 2 tyres, a shock and an exhaust blow. Repair bill will be sub £100.

I was trying to legitimise scrapping the bloody thing.

Just die!

I had a quick spin in this on Tuesday. I was amazed at how well it went, although it's a particularly nice example. I also never knew what a funny little gear change they have. Quite counterintuitive but no doubt it soon becomes second nature. I really would like one now, if anybody finds a very cheap one for sale....

I've taken tomorrow afternoon off to take delivery of the Rover. My boss was just signing my holiday form and my phone rang at 5:30. Hi, it's XXX that's us 15 minutes away with your car. WHAT?   I was still at work 30 miles away so had to bugger off sharpish.

It looks pretty much as described and and looks pretty nice. One wing is a little ropey but there's a spare front wing in the back. The rear doors are are borked and probably need replaced or re-skinned at least partially. There's no battery and the tyres look past their best.

Engine looks engineish. I bet this is going to take me fucking ages to get it running.

Big grown up job interview just done..

Now we wait

Our survey said "too close to the svm to be trusted with grown up job"

The SVM are not responsibile for people who choose to drive cars which don't begin with the letter V. All sensible people know that a 740 should have a 2.3 litre 4-cylinder engine and be capable of carrying a europallet in the boot.

Saw that bint from the Available Car advert again this morning.

By God that woman is painfully thin.

I was filling up the Scirocco with fuel and shouting helpfully across the forcourt,

"Oy, want me to fetch you a pastie, love?"

Hospital today to see surgeon about my borked knees - keyhole surgery will sort out the tears on my meniscus on both knees. Once done I'll be back to pre - torn activities. Might be a few weeks before the op, but hopeful it will be sooner or later.

And thanks to cashing in my ISA with Santander, I have just paid my mortgage off, which I needed to do as I'll be going down to half pay in May (non smiley face). Feels good to be mortgage free for the first time.

Filled up the Perodua today. 72mpg. Turns out the sodding thing false clicked on me. Thought the tank should have taken more than 18 litres. It just got to 300 miles on a tank. Not the best range.

On my Renner mission today I took the Cavalier over the 75, which is a bit telling. Oh dear, the big Rover's star is starting to wane faced with opposition from a shit Vauxhall.

I survived today eating mints and a sausage roll from a garden centre cafe. Here's the Cav in the car park looking rather lovely

Shock horror.... wait for the reports of torrential rain in the south west for the next week!

I bought one off ebay for about 20 notes a few years back. It's saved me a lot of money. Definitely worth having with modern ish shite. My oldest car is 15 now. God I still think x plates are brand new

Mrs fp got me one of them readers as a stocking filler, i have nothing new enough to use it on, but I've used it on family and friends cars so it's a thing worth having

I keep my obd thing in the glovebox, has been handy, even though the zx has no need for such electrickery
