I'm going to have to acept that I like the Kia enough to spend money on it which is totaly not what I intended. The thing has no rust worthy of the name and apart from a crap change into 2nd gear drives very sweetly. I have even had it upto 88 on sat nav speed with power in reseserve.

It currently has 5 brands of tyre (hankook, roadstone, rayal, broadspeed and firestone) on the wheels and though they all have useful tread the sidewalls on a couple are rather dodgy so I'm going to bite the bullet and get fresh boots.

A call to Selly Oak Tyres beckons.

The Kia now has 4 new Kuhmo tyres on it. Comedy sequel on roadabouts has gone and you have to be going above 30mph to get a proper drift going.

It still goes over speed bumps at 50 though, so all is not lost.

I could have got away with doing nothing till one of the tyres failed but I can't do bangernomics properly.

I have also bought a wire wheel for the drill to attack proto rust areas before they do anything to spread.

What's a good anti-rust primer to get? or are they all much of a muchness?

Saw a car on its roof after leaving the M3 this evening. Lorry and lots of cars stopped and someone was holding a towel or something to a woman's head. No ambulance or fuzz present at the time. Hope they're ok - nothing else seemed involved, just a gap in the wooden fencing up by chobham common.

18 potentially snapped a rear spring tonight, rubbing noise coming from the back, worse when turning right, and also a creaking when wobbling the back wheel.

Will further investigate before driving again, hopefully it is just a spring and not something more annoying.

Through the magic of Twitter, I bring you this pic of the scene. "Thankfully only minor injuries"

That was taken by Surrey Traffic Police. A fellow Tweeter retweeted it earlier. Thought the incident sounded familiar when you mentioned it!

At 600 pages I decided it wasnt so New any more. So its now the News 24 Thread, not to be confused with the other News 24 Thread that isnt called that any more anyway.

UK market Rallyes weren't Rallyes anyway - they were XSs with a sticker kit. Got screamed at by a bloke at a past job for that.

As I understand it, the only difference between euro rallye and uk was arches, stickers and the block being made of iron?

Uk spec XS was 20 kg lighter and had 10 more bhp. Superior car in my opinion. XS ftw.

Awaiting some photos of a *cheap one owner 75 Connoisseur...

What am I thinking? Its pocket money, been maintained regardless of cost with tax and test until next Spring.

This is the Autoshite 'bike' Rover isn't it? Spotted at Brooklands on Twitter. (not by me)

I should clarify, it isn't my photo. I've rather lost track. Is it with RobT now?

Bugger me! I've only just come back from ASDA! Well, if there's another BX parked with a space next to it, it'd be rude not to wouldn't it?

Been offered a Rover 75 2.0 Connoisseur SE, 100k, one owner from new, FSH, recent clutch, cambelt/water pump in 2013, MOT and Taxed until March 2015, its available in a couple of weeks and would be £700, Thoughts??

Diesel or that weird V6 thing? Either way the clutch and cam belts changes are a massive plus, I'm convinced either of those failing is enough to see these things off to the scrapyard.

2.0 Petrol.

Sounds to have been maintained regardless, looked after by a MG Rover garage in Kent.

Normally I wouldn't look twice but I do like these 75 Connoisseurs and this ones had £££ spent on it, as I say one owner from new.

Go for it. It's had the important bits done and I reckon you can't go far wrong. I like 75s and nearly bought one a few years ago but chickened out 'co of OMGHGF scares.

If that clutch replacement includes the slave cylinder and all three belts have been done, that's probably the closest thing to a failure-proofed KV6. The 2 litre isn't the most powerful for the fuel economy penalty but the manual box should let you get some efficiency/performance out of it. Nice colour too and those wheels look so right on it. I say buy.

I'm just thinking aloud here so bear with me, I found this 190E 2.0 Auto for sale today in a driveway. Been garaged since 2009 it's recently had a load of work done and a 12 month ticket written out for it.

Now what are these like? This one's done 118k and is full loaded with electric windows all round, sunroof and alloys and is up for £995ono. I like them but being a auto is of putting and I imagine it's not cheap to run.

Auto is the one to have Trig. It's a lovely gearbox. Merc manuals are pish. I'd imagine it's a lot like a smaller W124, so probably 30mpg-ish, very relaxing and almost completely anti-hoon.

I plan to call the owner later and get this confirmed.

I am very tempted, and as you say it does look so right in black with those wheels, full Connoisseur spec.

I had a white 2 litre diesel 190 and while it was never even close to being a fast car, it was an honest-to-God pleasure to drive. Comfortable, quiet, solid-feeling....yet another on the "why did I sell that?" list.

Had a 2.0 auto 190 and it's a fine, if a little lethargic, machine. No real sides to them TBH. Well built but can hide their rot well - look at rear subframe mounts, jacking points and the other place is behind the plastic door finishers but that's a bit more difficult to check. Expect about low 30s mpg wise, the engine and box is pretty uncomplicated and bombproof and as DW said, auto is the one to have. Other than that, they're hopeless in the snow without a slab or two in the boot!

I liked mine, just got bored with it and so off it went to Africa. Paid £500 for mine about five years ago.

Ebay message yesterday - I give you £800 CASH tomorrow for your car! Yeah yeah, come and have a look at it mate and then take it from there.

Then text messages and then a phone call. So, hes bought train tickets, wants collecting from the railway station which given the time he says he is arriving I politely say I cant do as Im at work, but give him directions ( its a 10 min walk if that), long chat about the car and he says he will be here just after 11... Wife given instructions on how to sell the car, I come homr from work to find thing still parked there. No, he hasnt been at all. No contact, not responding to text or phone call.

Im assuming that he has been abducted by aliens and even now is being anally probed by something with a diameter equivecable to a dinner plate.

Then the missus tells me about another phone call today, so I return teh call to be told "Oh yes thats the one in Preston, its a bit far away isnt it?"

Do it, if all you've heard is true.  A well-maintained one would be a lovely thing to roll around in.

Yup, that is indeed the ex-Bollox, ex-Six Cylinder, ex-Mastervan, ex-Phil_lihp 220SLi which now resides with RobT.  Glad to see my incredibly amateur paintwork repairs are holding up, it looks proper shiny!

Just spoken to the lady, its not had a new clutch but it has recently had a clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder, last serviced in March 2014 and serviced every year from new without fail. Recent new Coil springs too. Also she confirmed ALL belts were replaced last September, and the temp gauge never goes past half way  :-)

Think I'll have it but need to wait 10 days now...
