And back home. Not quite to plan - I didn't see Pete stop to get petrol, so we got separated on the esher bypass!

Fact of the day from the Economist

Of the 430,000 cars sold in Uzbekistan last year, 83% were Chevrolets. The Cobalt, a saloon car, made up nearly a third; on desert motorways it is unusual to spot anything else.

(That'll be the Daewoo)

Daweoo stamps

Or even Daewoo stamps! 😀. I didn't know about the Damas though, aka Chevrolet Damas - apparently a Suzuki Carry.

I know there's a "like" button but that's just not sufficient, that is staggeringly fantastic.

Youngest son’s 16th birthday today and he asked if we could go to the coast for the day out(maybe last grasp at childhood but we’ll take it).
Anyway, he decided on Bournemouth and what a glorious day we had. Sunshine, warm, lovely beach and gardens, a really nice day.

Bonus was, they have a zip wire from a tower at the end of the pier, to the beach. Watched loads of folks doing it and thought it looked fun. He said no thanks. Thank fuck, it’s £27!

Good news on my best mate's 2008 - we seem to have it finally all fixed, and for sub £1k as well. A tame auto electrician diagnosed the intermittent ESP lights down to a dodgy brake switch, a local gearbox specialist has reinstated fifth, and the front brakes have been sorted out. She's back driving short distances now (for those who didn't see in other threads, this is the mate who fell down my stairs back in January and broke her leg - she's still using a crutch but can manage short distances without it now), but as it's only had very short journeys since being driven back from mine on the day of the fall, we arranged for me to give it a good run last night. 60 odd miles undertaken without an issue. Given some places had scaremongered her with high costs for the gearbox alone, it's a good outcome. Hopefully it'll fly through it's MOT next month and then be ready to be pressed back into daily service once she is fit to return to work.

Had a little win this week that might be interesting.

A colleague 3D printed these attachments for the taillight covers on the mustang. File was free on line and very simple to print apparently. Their second print ever so quite pleasing.

3D printed part. It just threads on to metal studs in the boot.

Very impressed overall, it's the future!

Just spent all morning preparing Mrs JJ’s Berlingo to sell.

Serviced it, making use of the cordless ratchet I bought from @mrbenn - what a great invention. Much easier undoing the under tray with that!

Washed, vacuumed and photographed.

All done packed up and sat on the sofa by 12PM!

Making use of Good Friday to do car stuff:

image.jpeg.00bf4f631a455fb83c02e3b637c3ee41.jpeg

LS400 cleaned with my comprehensive equipment - a bucket which was found when we moved into our previous house, a chamois of indeterminate age* and a brush which I've had since at least 1984.

Master SL and Miss SL's BF were (and still are) busy with fitting a spoiler to the Celica.

*Years ago I remember reading an article about a chap with something like a Frogeye Sprite that was entered into concours events - maybe the Benson & Hedges series that was running back then? Anyway he said a chamois only got used once on bodywork before being demoted to bumpers, wheels etc. This sounded like a stupid waste to me, especially as his car was probably not dirty to start with, but it often comes to mind when I'm using mine.

Nephew asked if I could look at his gf punto... as making some funny noises..

Well 1st off thrust bearing chattering away, gear oil coming from d/s input seals.. and box rattling.. when driven another deep whine gets louder faster you go. Few drinks when stopping and changing gear..

Random clean bolt..flywheel inspection cover missing. apparantly had clutch before purchase in January this year

Noises started yesterday.. same day she passed her test..

Tired of this shit now. I don't have a brake pipe kit anymore and google is just walls of shite. It feels like I will never get this RX-7 to move to fix the other cars.

First time out this year. Garage seems to be getting a bit damp as the cover had mildew and on the steering wheel!

Been that way for a couple of months now - we thought we were doing something wrong for a bit. Nope.
Walls of shite indeed.

Goddamn my forgotten 19 year old self just fainted.

These really are beautiful. I should try driving one again before they fuse my ankle.

You can still drive (most) manual cars with a fused ankle, I do from time to time.

It’s better in focus- I need to start wearing my glasses to take photos with the phone!

Oh, that is interesting - I've been really dreading the operation partly for the recovery time, but mostly for the no more manuals/losing flexibility.

I wouldn't want to drive a manual everyday but its doable for most cars, you still have some flexibity even with total fusion, I couldn't drive my late dad's RAV4 comfortably (in fact it was painful) but other stuff was fine including work vans when I have borrowed one.

The recovery time is protracted before you can go full load bearing but its worth it for 95% of folk, I have no more arthritic pain and can walk up hills and dales and just get on with living a normal life for the most part, there is still some residual pain occasionally but its nothing like it used to be.

Our youngest, child no 4, turns 17 later this month. As we've already set a precedent with the other 3, we've got him a car for his 17th.

1.6 diesel Citroen DS3 Black and White. A friend of Mrs P was getting rid, seems a decent little thing, £25 a year tax, £200 to insure him as a learner, then LOLHowfuckingmuch when he passes.

I find it a bit cramped, but I'm a 6"3 fat fucker, rides rock hard with 17 inch 45 profile tyres, but it goes pretty well and seems to sip diesel. Not picked up the service history yet, so not sure about cambelt, its due a service so I'll sort that and give it a once over.

Youngest is well happy, but the cheeky fucker said what am I getting for my birthday! Apparently a car was kinda expected, little shits on grass cutting duties for the rest of the year.

Wish I had you as my parent😂

I really like these cars, but just make sure the drivers airbag recall has been done on this though

Thanks, the one bit of paperwork we've got so far is the airbag recall being done, previous owner had to park the car up for a few months while waiting for parts being available.
