Everyone has their opinion, not all of us can express it so succinctly.

Had this thing a month now and I've done 1500 or so miles, averaging 60mpg.

However...

It's actually a really massive pain in the arse to park it around here. I've spent ages, genuinely ages, trying to find spaces big enough in the dead of the night and it's getting really annoying. It's not a huge car but it is a big car for one person.  One person getting really frustrated not being able to park it!

Really tempted to get rid of it and get a Panda or citybug literally for that reason alone. Sigh!

Last time I was in Brussels, Fatha_Sterling used to live right near this dark blue Jag, I'd had my Vectra with me, now I'm back with my Jag, I thought, why not?

Despite looking the same, the dark blue Jag is actually an X300 straight-six. It does have an X308 grille and front headlamps by the looks of it.

It's on a 'classic' numberplate indicated by the "0" at the start of the plate which is for classic cars.

Unfortunately, I didn't meet the owner.

In other news, the electric aerial on the Jag managed to break. I've got a new one coming over at some point though.

That made me laugh and cheered up what turned out to be a not so great day. 🏁 Also reminded me of my dads Rover 2000, his hubcaps were almost permanently covered in a thick layer of road dirt and a dog would regularly pee on his hubcaps and it really pissed him off!

Spent Sunday swapping the contents of the missus Golf into the S204 Mercedes, cleaning a bit of the interior and sorting a few bits out ready for Nanny duties on Monday. her ladyship sorted the insurance and SORN for the Golf then hit a stumbling block with the tax as the new keeper supplement was coming up invalid and the V5 has not arrived. I thought it was due to having SORN the Mercedes when we bought it, apparently as the V5 had been created on Aug 22nd the supplement number becomes invalid so none of the online taxing will work. I dropped a disappointed other half off this morning for nanny duties (Carless Fandango!) in my car and she managed to get a call back from DVLA to tax the car.....:oOf course I had to drive from work in Ottershaw to Staines in my car, collect her car then pick her up from Aldershot! In the pissing rain! how many f*uckwits had an accident tonight on the way there AND back. 😬

Yeah, if they were both like 1st photo probably worth saving but your correct, the 2nd one looks beyond it. Very rare seats and with head rest option.

The X308 grille on an X300 really stands out to me. It looks really weird. Nice car otherwise, though!

Great picture of the two of them together.

Drove the Carina to a holiday on The Gower and then to and from Port Talbot and Swansea a few times while I was staying there and it averaged 41mpg over the full tank. I'm impressed given I hit 60mph in second gear more than once overtaking, not bad for a 1.6 litre car with a carburettor. The £450 engine is a good 'un.

I feel like a kid at Christmas. New car day comes but thrice a year!

Although I'm hoping this one is going to be with me for a long, long time.

First order of business, timing belt and sort the laggy revving (which I'm pretty sure will be coil pack, plugs or leads).

Thank you so much to @The Moog for bringing it down my way - I hope the train back is a pleasant and extremely uneventful journey.

Edit: Not sure why that's upside down but no, he hasn't delivered it to Australia...

Today, whilst...s-l1600(12).jpg.f3d81da44929cbcf301985a473dff8ca.jpg...to Pêle-Mêle. I always stop at a particular multi-story. I like garages/undercover parking, there is an abundance of these around Brussels. But this one is one of the most interesting I've seen so far:

20250902_131518.jpg.ec12f58776f1068177435f2df4f77264.jpg

Its a very small area and has a fairly tight curve up into other floors, but its doable.

20250902_123616.jpg.f65fd4131e712920c57ce505d80c15d5.jpg

The yellow tape just below the top of the door was touching my hair as I walked past. I'm 5ft 7 so this would be about 5ft 9 for a car to get past.

The building is round rather than square therefore the parking places can be tight in some places, its always a good idea to reverse park if you can.

However, the higher you go, the more places there are. At the top is the most interesting place:

20250902_125949.jpg.33691d642efbd6a3506d00305b3f7659.jpg

My car looked like it was on display.

It has a car lift, but I don't think it's worked for a long time.

20250902_125847.jpg.def2240b31a3b7ee94d3852612965041.jpg

This particular parking area felt oddly clean, safe and very relaxing. No noise from the hustle and bustle of the city. Just tranquility. It felt a little warm, but it would given the old skylights.

Other than that, the lifts looked very old:

You need  a matching pair of V40 T4's and an S40 T4 to go with them. 😁 (Apply within.)

I’ve been in multi stories in France, Belgium and Switzerland, and they do feel much safer than UK ones. I think it’s mainly due to decent  lighting rather than the twilight in most in the UK. Also the spaces are generally a decent size.

Our Maud's Fiat Sedici takes too long to start in the morning. Starts fine up to 4 or 5 hours after a run. It has been suggested that one of the injectors is leaking back when stood. A plug in diagnostic points to injector number 1 being the culprit, but to be sure, I'm bypassing each injector, then leaving overnight to confirm it.

Totally fiddly pain in the cock, but hopefully avoids unnecessary expenditure. 🤔

I took the recently acquired Scenic for an NCT yesterday. I did a quick check on all the bulbs on Monday night, only to find that the high level brake light wasn't working. I rushed across to a friend's, and he soldered in a replacement led strip, so all was well with that. It passed, but I didn't realise that it's not 10 years registered until the 16th December, so the retest date is in October 2027.

Started the Carlton for the first time in a few months. Battery stone dead, so needed a bit of encouragement from the Astra.

20250903_194353.jpg.f58975c1dd5c40c0db35f00ebe7f1e18.jpg

The Carlton responded by spewing petrol onto the alternator, but a new bit of fuel hose later, it ran quite nicely (albeit with a slight misfire, but I suspect it just wants new plugs and leads).

It's only got a month left on the MOT, and it needs a fair bit of work before it goes through the next one, so a quick email exchange with the local Housing Association secured me a garage a few minutes walk away.

20250903_200712.jpg.151020451c04720f4f2db33b9516720e.jpg

So now on SORN for the foreseeable.

I occasionally consider selling it, as its getting a bit crispy in places (though underneath is OK), but I do like the car, and there aren't many pre-facelift CD spec Carltons left. They are rarer than the GSi and Lotus flavours. It's a lovely place to be - very comfortable ride.

Did take a couple of pics of the worst areas so I don't need to drag it out of the garage to take more photos if I do eventually decide to sell.

Not too worried about the arches and outer sills as replacement panels are still relatively easy to source, but the doors will be a challenge, and I'd imagine (coming from a place of no experience) they're fairly tricky to fabricate.

First calculation of MPG on the little Fiat.  Two or three commutes plus a long trip to Rustival and back , although I hit some traffic coming back from Rustival and had one bad work trip so probably not too far off my average driving. 55mpg, very pleased with that

the Merc would get 37-40 on the trip computer on a typical commute (I never did an actual calculation on the Merc but Panda has no mpg readout)

Added to the tax cost save an extra 10-15mpg is also very welcome
