Must have had a big fuel tank to do hundreds of miles 🤪

Doloshite charge light flickering on. Getting 15.9v at the battery varying with revs.

Fitted new* voltage regulator. Steady 14.1v at the battery.

A week later, charge light flickering on again.

Cool. 😑

So are the regulators getting fried by another problem or is it just shit repop parts?

*New in box, not ancient NOS. Still rustier than the bits already on the car...

I think deep down inside you already know the answer!

Check the earth. If the voltage reg doesn't have a good one, it'll let the alternator over-charge. Fried a battery in my 2CV because of that...

Also check the wiring to the charge light. It relies on the bulb to set up the field current.

Must be a BMW bike thing, I cursed my F800 when the key stopped turning in the ignition.

Turns out it was the key for the Peugeot van I'd hired that morning that almost fitted.

Idiot.

Deffo a BMW thing. A mate of mine called a few months ago to jumpstart his. We connect the jump cables, press the button, nothing.  10 minutes of fiddling later, he realizes that the key is not in the ignition. 😄 His other BMW is keyless start.

Just nailed on my  freshly painted wing ..   not a terrible  mismatch  to the  27 year old paint is it  ?   The rest needs a wash and polish , i'm reasonably confident it'll  tone down and blend in, if i give it a few weeks to weather .

I'll give a heads up to Kent Panels and Paint , at the bottom of Bluebell hill  , Maidstone , they mixed the paint to code number..

I think it’s the law or something that if you are picking up something long and you own a convertible you must use that for the collection.

So dutifully despite more qualified vehicles on the fleet being available I collected my new windowsills from. wickes today…

So it turns out the 2009 XF 3.0 diesel I bought of FB marketplace is a dog. It has pissed me off a bit but my fault as I went in without doing any real checks and fell in love with the bloody thing. I don't even take it on a proper teddy drive and paid him the full amount. He must have seen me coming. It did have 5 clean MOT's which coincidentally is the number of years he owned it. The lack of recent service history should have given it away though.

I realised soon after purchasing it that the suspension was knackered and there were fumes in the car when idling. I took it to my local garage for a check over. They weren't that positive about it. See attached photo is you want a laugh.

The suspension issues can all be rectified but the exhaust leak (probably the flexi near the cats) is harder and the rear subframe is harder still. The sills might be a deal breaker. I need to check them before making any decisions. I bought this to replace an S type with rusty sills!

I took it out for a drive with my son tonight. We wafted for about 5 miles. Apart from the jiggly steering it was still a nice place to be.

Carwow etc are offering £800 to £900. I have never used such a company and the idea is not pleasant. I could fix it over time (£600 to £800 approx with my son ding it in his spare time) but that depends on the sills. I'm not chucking loads of money at a rusty car. We could strip it and I would get my money back but lose about 60 hours where I could be doing more useful things.

A good way to blow a grand in a week! I have 5 cars and this week I had to hire a f***ing nissan juke to drive someone to Manchester for work as they are all unsuitable or in a state of disrepair. 🙄
