Follow up on moan on grumpy thread re parts suppliers.
Yes - CarPartsInMotion delivered me an ATF filter and seal via the RM24 service yesterday afternoon 🌟, it wasn't raining and no midges under the car as my axle stands are  too low for them to get in there so we went for getting the thing moving again.
Both rocker covers removed & resealed, finished fitting the new steering arm do-dahs, ATF flushed and replaced.
Happy wife as she wanted SLK working for a weekend visit from #1 sprog.

I could have just spend the evening sipping a beer and looking at this pretty assemblage:

I believe one of us from this parish has already rescued this particular specimen once, in their capacity as an RAC flatbed driver in the Cheshire area - unfortunately I can't remember the username the owner, an ex colleague of mine, told me....

However, after several months of failing to fix the electrical FTP, the nearby garage it was taken to have washed their hands of it - so I stepped up and used one old British crock to assist another. Safely delivered to a competent auto electrician across the county, typically just as the rain began to set in....

It's a little bit careworn, but then again it has been in his ownership since 1997 without major cosmetic work, so it's not doing badly!

Turns out I'd got my wires as crossed up as the abortively repaired ignition system on the Scimitar!

Having checked again, I'm told that @eddyramrod was in fact not the recovery driver, but was a highly interested spectator when it was being deposited by the wagon :)

Yeah nothing to do with me but I did have a tidy SE5 a few years back.

Went to the Tasty Classics Cars and Coffee event this morning. Don’t particularly watch the fella, but a friend was part of the organising so decided to get a ticket. To be fair it was a great event with some superb shite, and the Tasty Classics fella was enthusiastic about the Pontiac!

That is lovely. (Except for the leak-roof).  I still miss  my Ami, after 40 + years.

@brownnova Nice selection there!

@mat777 Yes, I was the interested spectator, who happened to be at the antiques village when the Scimitar was dropped off.  That was nearly four months ago!

Motorway spot from my father-in-law.

Screenshots from the video he sent me, as I can't work out how to upload it on here.

Carina E packed-up yesterday ready for Miss SL and her BF's trip to France:

IMG_7670.JPG.39316a1ee44ad3dbcae84f04a95bf9f4.JPG

The large boot took all of their luggage, camping gear etc without anything needing to go on the back seat, and it didn't look like the suspension dropped much.

During its few days at the garage it got a new exhaust system and rear suspension link, and it seems as if they've got the A/C working with a new O-ring.

They made Ashford for an overnight stop, now waiting for tunnel crossing. Fingers crossed for safe and reliable travels over the next four weeks. We'll be meeting up with them in a week or so, be strange seeing the Carina out there.

They were features you couldn't take for granted in 1980, when that advert appeared.

If you were buying the newly launched Mark 3 Escort you would only get a glove box light if you bought a Ghia.  If you bought a base Escort you didn't get a glovebox at all!

And Vauxhall would still sell you a Chevette with crossply tyres in 1980.

I bought a 1.1L Fiesta mk1 new in 1982. It was 3 rungs up from the base model, Popular, then Popular Plus, but still pretty basic. MW/LW radio, no cassette not even FM, painted inside doors, no glove box, skinniest tyres on 12in wheels although they were radials. The “luxury” items were passenger door mirror and reversing light.

The only real reason for buying something like a Fiesta rather than a Polonez was the spectacular depreciation. Build quality was an issue too but Fords of that era weren’t great either.

The Red Arrows were meant to be flying over EMA at 14:46 this afternoon. The traffic for a thirty-second whoosh was mental.

Look closely and you'll see that all of these cars are parked on and around double red lines which denote 'No Stopping At Any Time'.

Mr & Mrs amc have purchased this for eldest daughter

Dtr has to wait 51 days to legally drive it so mum & dad will happily keep it ticking over.

Many, many thanks to @wuvvum for hanging onto it and being a great seller.

Car drives v well. Wouldn't have minded giving it a bit more on the dual carriageway but rain didn't allow.

Half way but calling into sis-in-law after dinner. Looking forward to driving it the rest of way home as only me on day insurance.

A shame they had to skin Steph from idriveaclassic for the interior, not on.

Discs all round was a carry over from the 60's Fiat 124 these were based on I think

It's a bit more complicated that that...

The Polonez was actually based on the Fiat 125, which combined the cabin and Twin Cam engine from the Fiat 124 with the floorpan and running gear of the Fiat 1500. The 125 therefore had rear drum brakes, rather than the discs used in the 124.

Now, the comrades at FSO were keen to make their new car cheaper to build, so replaced the Twin Cam with the ancient OHV from the 1500, and also simplified quite a few design details of the 125. But they would not compromise on braking, so actually chose to install rear discs in their car, rather than the drums of the original !

It was like that when the Tristar flew over on its way to the Paris Air Show when it was chokka with Rolls Royce employees. There was a tad more at stake then as RR had gone bankrupt. Me and a mate went down on his scooter from Leeds.

Stop #1 achieved, probably their longest driving day from Calais down to The Loire near Saumur, avoiding the clean air zone in Rouen.....

I had a 1978 Escort GL, my mate had a 1978 Ghia. Main differences were a dashboard clock and his radio had FM

It’s not a Crayford conversion- any clues whose work it is?
