That is such a wonderful feature, I agree. I've had several Fords with it and it works so quickly.

Is it available more widely these days on Modernz?

My last two Qashqais have had it.

FTFY ... ten minutes later and you're sorted/fed

Ten minutes later your car is gone, and when you try to claim on your insurance they refuse to pay out.

If you're a girl you insist on spraying gallons of de-icer onto your car. If you're a man you just scrape it properly while the engine is running with heated rear window and demist setting on.

I am MGBGTRV8+ and do the start and demist thing, before lifting the wipers and chucking a pop bottle full of water from the cold tap onto the screen.

In an excellent end to the day, I managed to catch up with an elite core of shiters for dinner and a small libation.

L to R

@RobT @Skizzer @meshking @Kiltox and moi.

Grand evening, and the Kings Arms on Roupell St is a great wee boozer.

My biggest surprise of yesterday was happening upon TWO unrelated Citroen SMs in the wild - the Roupell Street one in @320touring's photo and another on the hard shoulder of the M4 near Bridgend, earlier in the day.  I hope it was ok - there weren't any flames or anything, so that's a start.

I can't remember the last time I saw an SM outside of a show.

Oh yeah, it was good to see the gang pictured above too, obvs.

I like the way you can program modern* Ford stuff to automagically fire up the heated screens, mirrors, washers etc when the temperature is below 4°c.

*modern in this case being 2006.

Heated front screen has been available on lots on stuff for a long time now. VW Trainspotter can be had with a heated front screen, for example. IIRC Caterham were the first non-Ford / Ford owned vehicles to get it. Land Rover have had them as options for a long time, I had a 91 Range Rover Classic with one. I think BMW got to use them through the engine deal for the diesel P38a.

I could show forty or fifty photos a week of Mercedes 190 with a good handful of W124, too.  I’ve never to the best of my knowledge seen a petrol.  They’re either badged ‘D’ or unbadged.  Lacquer peel everywhere.  Mileages typically from 300-450k kms.  Rarely automatic, unlike the UK.  They don’t smoke when they’re driving around so mechanically still decent I would say.

I’d like to bring mine down next year.

Why is that then? lots of cars have preconditioning where it remains locked whilst warming up/demisting.

Stopped at services on the A17 last year, and the minibus that pulled up next to me was running a tyre like that.

Bonus - it was a taxi 😱

Just cooking tea and had a bit of a rant at the sausages.  Who decided sausages should be round and are annoying to get nicely browned all over .. then remembered the Scots answered that question years ago.

Anyone daft enough to want one of our cars would need to get past the farm gate, two mad dogs and my wife. 🙂

Air Fryer is great for sausages. Evenly browned all over and cooked to perfection.

I hate air fryers! I'm old school and just see them as a fad. Ours is right beside the hob, I just ignore the evil thing. The microwave's an arsehole too.  I can just about tolerate the kettle.

P.S - the sausages were excellent, some peas and chips too. Clean plates all round.Normal food after all the Christmas bollocks.

Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.

Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.

Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

I haven't got those deterrents, but living 4km from the nearest village has advantages. I wouldn't do it in a town.

You know something, you may be on to something here. That's why I hate cars so much now. At one time they were my life.

Skills remain though. I can still set a carb with my nose, and points with my eyes. For all the good that is nowadays.

Some skills, like cooking banging bangers, I hang on to with every fibre, and will continue!

Wish I could take credit for it, it's a good old Douglas Adams quote!

There's plenty of things I *can* do the old fashioned way, like cooking sausages, but the air fryer does them just as well with less effort and less mess. Just had some pork chops done in it and they were the best I've had. Couldn't have done them on the grill even if I wanted to because it trips the breaker if you switch it on.

Now I've had a proper chance to look at this leak, it is deffo gearbox oil, slight weep from the passenger side driveshaft seal. Glad that its been picked up by the MOT, I'll get it done over Christmas/New year.

Got the couriering caddy back from the menders today, left it with them over the new year and told em no rush. Got a call Friday to let me know the driveshaft seal had been damaged as the securing ring behind it had broken up, wouldn't be able to get a replacement till Saturday. Phone call this morning to say its done, new seal, ring and gearbox oil, for the bargain price of £120.

Very pleased at that price, I feared it could be much more.

OMGSNOWCHAOS!😄

Heres a shit photo from my shit iPad camera of the current situation in Coleford!

Im actually shocked it’s not raining instead to be honest.
This, incredibly, is what an amber weather warning for snow and ice looks like FFS! It’s a light dusting!

The burd was particularly taken with this early 500, with a modern 5000 behind it🤣

Lastly, some proper "fuck the aesthetic" planning decision - I reckon even @rantingYoof would struggle to justify this block of flats was in keeping with the area🤣
