Having got it out and warmed up and checked everything electrical was ok I noticed that the handbrake warning light wasn’t working. Handbrake is not left on and I’m assuming it’s grumpy because of the cold and damp but Haynes seems light on info about accessing the switch and presumably relay.

Did you go out for a spin?

I’d have thought that last thing an X19 needs in it’s life is salty roads?!

About twenty feet- out of the garage onto the drive and back after it had warmed through. I’m mad, not insane!

It gets quite interesting when you get the rev counter and speedometer arms to touch.

Why do speedometers and rev counters in Italian cars of that era not sit at zero when they're reading zero?

To be fair the car was revving with the choke,  but the answer is because Italian.

Had a bit of a spotting frenzy today

London spots. Saw the Fulvia draw up and spoke to him. The owner of the 2000 and the Porsche came out to chat to him. The 2000 was apparently originally sold from the Alfa dealer along the road.

Time for me to be boring again,

early 2CV - image.png.17d44f584c2ab0e50874cb5b0ddb2a4c.png right to left

late 2CV - image.png.2c82153988b0ce99e4de5d521b601c9f.png Left to right

Club/Charleston models Only ever went  left to right  image.png.16c94e4f58695587bec83ac974126f21.png

And if you tried really hard (not that hard actually) on the small type speedo you could pin the needle off the scale at the stop pin in the R of 'Jaeger'

(none of this will be news to @richardmorris and a few others)

I have the small jaeger dash. Pinning the needle to the end stop was about 80mph on the satnav gps. Nothing left on the clock but the maker’s mark! Passenger screams then become louder than the engine!

I once ran down the motorway (M1) from Leeds to back down to the midlands with the needle pinned to the stop on my old red 2CV special for just over an hour. Just didnt have to lift off for that whole time, only gradient ever bled a bit of speed off but at no point did the needle move back into the actually reading on the speedo. I was quite impressed/smug

Had been doing the Raid Tan Hill that the 2CV club do every year 1st weekend of jan.

It's that time of year again, the media lose their collective braincell down the back of the sofa and declare a weathergeddon warning so here's the Mash's offering from so long ago the page no longer exists and the archive is all that's left; Britain to be hit by entirely typical weather.

Stole a picture from the above article of the competitors' car park - no idea who anybody is in it - especially the bloke signing autographs in the C5?

Christ that really is cold!

I was out today cleaning out the garage at the new house, building up some racking and generally just getting stuff back in where I want it. It was cold here, the ice and frost on the ground and the cars didn’t melt all day despite it being sunny. Nothing even close to that though!

Here’s my new set up anyway. Not the biggest or most impressive garage ever but it’s mine!

Still lots to do but it’s a million times better than it was.
There’s a nice sturdy timber work bench in the back where the window is, so I’ve put my pillar drill and vice there.
Racking down the opposite side is all attached to the wall to prevent unfortunate accidents. Lighting is absolutely crap, but I’ll get a couple of LED strip lights to replace the little single bulb units it currently has.

Capri lives in there too. It was out on the driveway today and started frosting over after only a few hours. Fired right up and ran like a champ though.

Starting to feel more like home here now. Surprising how a damn good clean and unpacking your things can help with that.

I now have a stationary engine.

1.0 v-twin. 35hp.

Can now keep the lights on when the power goes out. Win.

There are some Utoobs where folks chuck a kettle full of boiling water up into the air [@very-cold] producing an instant 'ice cloud'.

Quite impressive to see.....

It's about 0 here, give or take. Much complaining about the cold and fiercely scraping the windscreen, while tutting.

If you're a girl you insist on spraying gallons of de-icer onto your car. If you're a man you just scrape it properly while the engine is running with heated rear window and demist setting on.

Or alternatively you start your car and let the heated front and rear screens do all the work for you! 😜

That is such a wonderful feature, I agree. I've had several Fords with it and it works so quickly.

Is it available more widely these days on Modernz?

I think Ford still have the patent and won’t share.
