Day 1 of my MIG Welding course last night, absolutely loved it. We were only welding strings on thick plate for the inaugural class so it was very easy but it was immensely satisfying. We got about 2 hours out of 3 on the tools and they were the quickest of my life.

The workshops are in the bowels of the college and are bare brick and cement, just like being back at school! I loved the noise of it all and it was sweaty work.

At the initial hour talk about health and safety and instructions on how to set up the welder, the lecturer asked us what brought us to the class. All 12 of us looked at each other and said "old cars".

I can't wait until I can go back again next week.

I did an evening course, bodywork ,when I lived in WGC, at the local college.

It was brilliant, they were happy for us to take our own vehicles in and use college stuff to work on them.

And the lecturer was a massive character, very knowledgeable, I watched a demonstration of leadloading a wing, which he talked about the whole time he was doing it, 20 minutes and you couldn't see the joint unless you looked really closely when he'd done.

Absolutely brilliant.

Shame there's nothing like that where I live now 😕

Interesting few days. I've caught a cold again after dropping off my Jag for some work. Every time I go to this new garage reccomended to me by @red5 I seem to catch a cold. My fault as it is still rather cold and the industrial estate is about a mile from the town where I have to catch the bus home. Next time I'll have a taxi waiting for me outside.

Anyway, the Jag has been making a scraping noise from the rear wheel area. Nothing amiss was found and the car his it well as it doesn't always make itself known when first starting. I did have the front anti-roll bar links changed as they were heavily worn, but still the noise remains. I took one of the mechanics out to show him the noise the Jag is making, we think it's now something to do with the inner rear brake, something has come loose so I'm expecting another bill soon.

The Vectra is in for its MoT next week so again, more car spendage will be happening.

In terms of my journeys today, things went oddly right; I started out wanting to go into town but not using the Vectra because if the Jag was ready, I could straight there instead of using the Vectra, possibly losing my parking space, then going home and having to make way over which would have added time.

As I was waiting for a bus, an old mate was passing and offered me a lift into town, I did what I needed to do and as I was walking back into town, the garage phoned me and told me the Jag was ready for collection, I called to book a taxi which was exactly across the road from me and flashed his lights to let me know he was there! Within 10 mins I was at the Jag again, but as above, the noise still persists.

The amassing of parts for the 205’s MoT has begun. I have bottom arms, clutch cable and a driveshaft. Pair of front steering knuckles and pair of NOS (apparently) callipers have been ordered from a 205 breaker on eBay. Need a pair of front springs as O/S/F has a lean so and that side is clonking so I’m guessing this is down to broken spring. I’ll get someone with better equipment sort the front bearings out as my torque wrench doesn’t go high enough

Cold out, this morning but heat soak from the engine is suprisingly good at warming the cabin for a trip to town…

One for 90s Touring Car Fans....

https://www.supertouringpower.com/

I've been to this the last two years and its really good but the best part is , if you book into the pre 2000 classic car show display you get free entrance to the event, for either or even both days.  The car show bit is pretty decent on its own let alone the classic racing and display cars.   Some pictures of last year's show as temptation

28/29th June. You have to book in your car and wait for approval but last year I mailed them a week before to change from the Panda to the XM and they weren't bothered so long as its pre 2000

This arrived the other day -

It not new. But hardly used. Still has the silica gel in the box. I paid roughly what a brand new artidiag 900 bt would cost. Hopefully it will last a few years.

Turns out there's a lot of truth to the idea that the way to be a good tenant is pay the rent on time and don't make a fuss.

I've not heard from the landlord of my unit in... A very long time. I've just been quietly paying the rent.

Got a text from him yesterday evening, turns out my mate that shares the unit has been running a pair of massive electric heaters, so the electric usage has been sky high.

Thus in order to prevent the rent going up to cover the usage a swap to a diesel heater has been agreed.

I'm happy, he's happy, Landlord's happy. Happy days.

this bit (top pic) ?
the ring and pinion is slightly damaged which I believe was caused by the bolts (blue arrow) shearing off. The planetary gears were also pretty destroyed again from the bolts passing through them

big thanks to Beau Engineering for the reconditioned replacement

It was Mad Wife in the Attic speak for "I can't see the ring gear".

( It is a similar but different language to "hairnet" ).
