I'd noticed that the TT had a fair few small abrasions down the passenger side where it looks like someone tried to remove something with a scouring pad . There was also a scuff on the drivers door.

I went over the whole car with my DA polisher which felt like heavy, shitty work in 27c heat, followed by a coat of good quality wax. Surprisingly, all those marks have gone and it looks great now. The drivers side pillar has had a dodgy touch in job with a rattle car in the past and the paint is porus as it's laden with dirt. That's a job for another day though.

Overall it looks great.

Today I had been mostly fucking around with a mates NCT failure 2008 Toyota Avensis. 

He's a total numbnuts when it comes to cars.

This got a Fail dangerous on it's test,and mate rang me up,"did they put a sticker on the windscreen?" I asked,No came the reply can I drive it up yours?

Half an hour later he turns up........

It bust a brake hard line at the rear during the test,plus rusty rear suspension arms split CV boot and a few bulbs.

I repaired the hard line then sent him on his way.

Today it got a new cv boot fitted,plus the lower balljoint cover split as I was taking off the front hub🙄

Then on to the rear arms.

These are surprisingly cheap new.

New rear tracking bar was needed too,plus a rear spring.

Old one was disintegrating. 

Rear arms definitely had seen better days.

Of course a bolt had to be seized and break off in the bushing,had to cut through the other side with the grinder,what fun!

Lots of rust flakes from inside the arms.

New spring,suspension arm and brake line repair.

Glad that's over,hopefully it will pass now.🙄

The Mercedes was full of dust from the body shop so washed it and took it out for an evening drive.

After a fair bit of fuckery from the garage that supplied the dynamo for the Oxford (e.g. telling me to come in and they would test it there and then, but then wanting to book in a slot..)

We settled on it being a regulator issue.

A new one was fitted.

I checked output at idle at the garage : 13.35v  ideal.

Got home (about 5 miles) checked again at idle:

Hmmm

Switched it off and had my tea, went back out later to shuffle cars:

At idle, full beam on 13.5v

At idle, dip beam on 14.6v

At idle no lights on 16v

Ats no right...

Going to have to read up on how to adjust the regulator. Can't be arsed taking it back to the garage as they were a pain.

Aware… wouldn’t say overly enthusiastic, but aware. It’s one of those situations where the ad says offers and the fella says he has no idea of value… so it’ll either be a bargain or too expensive for words. I’m first, so I imagine I’ll set the bar for lowball offers 😂

Wheel bearing expiry on the Scirocco.

Fitted four new tyres last weekend and planned to do a four wheel geometry set up taking into account that plus the fitment of the big brace underneath from a few pages previously.

When we refitted the NSF wheel last Saturday, there was a good 2mm of movement ‘in and out’ at the hub.  And the hubnut was tight!  So I ordered a bearing and hub through the week and they were fitted today with a full geo set up completed straight after.

Almost feels nimble now!

Another episode of Le grand tour with the ex top gear lot is out. It’s actually not awful. Some interesting places, stalag lift 3 etc and I’d never heard of crosley before. Some shenanigans but no car destruction.

Cars I viewed (yes it was a pair based deal) we’re both better and worse than expected. Been off the road for 6 and 15 years respectively and one of the road for 6 has suffered badly with tin worm considering it had a clean pass MoT in July 2016… I actually put my hand through the floor by accident. But the other one was very solid where it counts, if tatty and showing no signs of life no matter what we did electricity wise… the seller has no idea of how much they want… I need to work out whether I really need two more projects to add to the list 😂

 

Edit to add: @Mrsbrownnova has started making plans for them… and seems more keen on the idea than me now 😂

Saw those earlier, there’s always a reason cars are taken off the road. Usually 2cvs is RUST.

In this case the A Reg one had a bump, (damaged bonnet and bumper - nothing else, I had a good look) and the other one was welded up but never made it back to the road.

Washed the Capri today! 
First time I’ve done so in years. But since all the sealing up and corrosion waxing is done now it was a good time to get the thing clean and test it for leaks at the same time (none found!).

The paint on this thing is absolutely glorious! A real testament to the guy that painted it imho. I’d seen his work on some other cars before he did this one but the guy really is a talented time served body man. The paint is silk smooth and there’s no orange peel or anything in it. 
There’s a couple of dirty marks on the top end of the bonnet where some crap had dripped on it from the garage roof last year but most of it has come straight off with hot water and shampoo. I reckon another wash and it’ll come off, maybe even a light buff with some polish should do the trick.

I remember cleaning this for the last time in 2016, and you’d get a shower of rust flakes off certain parts just with the sponge passing over them! Not so now!

124 has left the building, I'll leave the new owner to the rest.

Have had messages about the MX5 from a chap on the Isle of Man(!!!) who's willing to go full-on collection mission for it.
Speedy  was over today, we tried to do the cambelt on his Civic but the big end pulley bolt is an absolute ballache to remove, so we gave up. Checked the belt and it's a recentish Gates with plenty life left, so we'll defer that for a bit. We did the valve clearances, put new gaskets in the rocker cover, changed the spark plugs and fitted a new radiator though. All that has yielded a massive improvement. After that we took the roof off the MX5 and took it out for a cruise. I honestly enjoyed being a passenger in the MX5 more than driving  it...

Went to see Paul Weller tonight in Thetford Forest, seen him there a few times now and he’s always bloody fantastic.

Me and my Brother got the last pieces of unwanted silver trim removed from the Panda. 

Accessibility to the roof bar bolts is via removing the end caps, absolute pita of a job!

Once they were off, the bolts wer quickly removed and  10mind later they were done.

 

New bars on and bonus is my Brother sold the unwanted Silver bars already.  Have also fitted a matching new rear number plate, but forgot to take a picture.
