Got the new engine in* the 205 today, which wouldn't have happened without the help of @Tickmanas I'd only planned to take the HDI out but that took hardly any time at all and we were there anyway.

Next job is coolant hoses and wiring. My favourite thing!

Looking forward to Wuvvum Heavy Industries being launched immediately, and stationery and other fripperies being ordered post haste.

Well, I'm home.  The Merc is a bit broken though.  It seems to have gone into some kind of limp mode - there's no warning lights on the dash but the symptoms are classic, it's majorly down on power, the gearbox doesn't want to kick down and the engine sounds louder.  It was fine when I set off - not sure when the issue occurred as most of the way back I was rolling along the A47 at 60-70, I didn't notice there was a problem until I got to the roundabout at the start of the Norwich bypass.

I'm going to plug the laptop in and see if that brings up anything, although I have a feeling this could have something to do with it:

That is going to get frisbeed I think.

I hope I can get it running properly again because it's a lovely thing to drive otherwise - it's ever so comfy, the stereo is great, the A/C and cruise work, and it just wafts along in a thoroughly relaxing manner.  The bodywork has some cosmetic issues, as is usual on Mercs of this era, but nothing a bit of wob and paint won't sort.

I went to Hartlepool today and looked at something big with wheels. It has a Cummins 8.3 Dizzle. Mmmm.

Anyway, I haz done a bought. It's the most modern vehicle, 1993, I've ever bought and it's the most expensive as well at £11000. EEEK !! I shall be collecting sometime this week although doing a live collection thread will probably be  beyond my meagre phone skills.

So here's the deal. Anyone who guesses what it is, apart from the one member who knows, will win a tenner.

Big, Cummins 8.3 should narrow it down. A bit. I don't think one of these has ever turned up on here or been on the Ebay tat thread. Over the next few days, until collection, I'll try and give a few more clues without giving it away.

Plugged the laptop in, no fault codes found.  Took it for a quick drive and it's back to performing as it should.  Odd.

Long car is long.

I'm sat in the passenger seat and have been up from Sussex on the M23, M25 and M40 so far and the amount of classic shite on the roads is amazing.

I'm loving it!

Just for one tiny example, and what I missed on this car is the trailer!

I can beat that - here's my hopeless effort at a door mirror photo of the 101 Victor which was a few cars ahead of me along the A47 - I was going to get a proper photo of it but it turned off before I had the chance.

I've bailed on swapping the Accord for an MR2 - I think the guy was trying to offload a lemon on me.

I reckon Dennis Javelin. The Leyland Olympian did come with Cummins engine as an option but it was the L10.

I only got the one pot-pap but it was like 5 quality shite a minute for a good way.

Glad you had lots of shite to entertain you too. There are a few car shows around and about.

About 3-4 weeks ago this guy comes to view.
He's offered an MR2 as a trade up from the Accord, however he didn't bring it with him as he claimed he'd replaced the radiator as it was leaking, and he'd not yet bled the cooling system.
He's happy with the Accord, so I try to make a deal with him and he starts going on about paying cash for the Accord, well I asked him about the MR2 and it took a bit of coaxing to get a price for it, he starts saying he was going to drop the engine and do the cambelt and some other bits then sell it for 4k. I asked what he'd sell for as is, and I agreed a cash figure on top of the Accord to buy his MR2, pending a new MOT as it only had a couple of weeks left.
Well he was on holiday the week after, but the next week I went to view it - it was Tuesday and the MOT expired on Thursday. I looked around the car and it all seemed OK on the face of things, but it was difficult to look underneath, and the sills looked like they'd been plated - despite a receipt for welding from an MR2 "specialist" being in the cars history. The car was on 120k and had book stamps to 100k, curiously all the book stamps were from HGV garages.
The clutch didn't slip, but there was a lot of travel on the pedal. He also showed me that he'd replaced one of the suspension top mounts on the front, however something was visibly wrong - the nuts weren't fully engaged on the threads. The car also had a rather loud decat exhaust on it, but he claimed that he had the cat, and it was welded to a Scorpion back box, that would be included with the car.

I said to him that he'd have a deal if he got it MOTd, he said no problem, he was condfident it'd pass, he'd get it done at his colleagues other garage after hours,  and it's in my general direction so after a pass he'd even drop it off to me. I offered him a deposit and he declined, saying 'you seem interested enough'.  Hmmmm. Why wouldn't you want to take my money?

That Friday night he takes it for a test at 5:45pm, around 7pm I go on the MOT checker.

image.thumb.png.f7c435d2f9aca0f8431a0f35999344dd.png

He messaged me around 8pm and said it'd failed on the top mount, brake lines and ball joints, but didn't mention the emissions, but that he'd order the parts, fix it up and get it a test. So he's fucked up replacing the top mount (o/s was the one he replaced), sent it for a test with the decat pipe on (possibly thinking his colleague would ignore it?), and claimed that the brake line issues were 'just a few clips'. He said he'd order the parts over the weekend then get it in for a retest early in the week - the day after he says parts have been ordered but it'll be midweek before they arrive.
I heard nothing all week then on the next Friday (the one just gone) he tells me that he's had tonsillitis and not done anything to the car, and it'll be put in for a test early next week. I acknowledge this, and he doesn't read the reply.
I decided I can't be arsed with this any more as I'm heavily suspicious he's stalling for time and trying to get rid of a hot potato - so I messaged asking him if he'd still consider a cash sale. He immediately replies saying he'll have to think about it - I said OK, just wondering as a lot of people are still messaging me about it.
20 minutes later he comes back 'best price m8' then asks if I'm still interested in his MR2 as it'll be ready to go soon, I said I'm leaning towards cash, give him a price £250 off my asking (considering he was willing to pay asking), and he just backs out saying he doesn't have the money if he doesn't sell the MR2.

In other words, he wants shot of the MR2 but has no time to fix it, and doesn't want to do the big jobs it needs. And I just don't need that shit.

I don't know where you're from but Hartlepool has a marina and I'm sure that big old Cummins had marine applications so....

Spent the afternoon outfitting a 2009 Ford Mustang with fire department lights amd siren.

200 Watt siren. Hot damn is that ever loud.

Also got the horn hooked up to it all. Now pressing the horn button makes it do the fire truck BWAARRRRRRRRRRT air horn noise. Also got a loudhailer function. Ran out of time to finish it all up tonight, shall complete the job sometime soon then take a photo.

Back last night from 5 days on the island of Arran.

This is my 21st year there since 2000,  after a break in 2020 due to Covid.

The absence has made me realise that the place although still lovely, is badly in decline, especially Whiting Bay where we stay. Unless you are into climbing mountains, there is now fuck all else left there. All the decent shops, cafes, restaurants and bars shut years ago. I think also that I got bored of going there and doing the same old thing about 6 years ago. My son had a good time throwing stones on the beach but even he got bored of that eventually.

The final nail was the house that my parents had rented for the past 16 years was taken off the market after the 2019 season closed as the owners moved into it permanently.  The house they got this year was not much good for lots of reasons. Sad to say that it will be my last year there. Lots of lovely memories over the years though, especially the early years in the original big house on a hill in Whiting Bay that they rented for the first 3 years.

Every year I take my car, something breaks on it or gets damaged. This year it was the 75 and the airbag light came on!

I bet you're glad you didn't pay a deposit.

Mr2s are notorious pigs to work on anyway, you're better off with a decent one if you ever want to have fun driving it.

The only Ferrari dealership I know of is in Knutsford but then I've never thought to myself to go looking for them. I mean, what business would I ever have there (apart from sweeping the floor perhaps 🤣)?
