Put the kangoo to work today. A load of timber to the waste depot. She performed well. Pulled fine for a 1.2 pez. I hear the click of a cv joint when turning right so that might be in my future. Otherwise quite happy with her

It is. I am in Ireland so probably a few differences. Otherwise we are pretty well locked down

Chilly and a bit wet in Warrington. I wanted to take the e60's undertray off to give it all a clean - lets see what this afternoon is like.

Job done. Advisories on MOT for oil leaks - cured when the valve cover gaskets were done as part of the valve stem oil seals. Both covers full of congealed oil that had to be scraped off. Not that much oil on the mechanicals - it just wiped off.

The old dear next door wanted to go and get her weekly shop but her 107 wouldn’t turn over. I know it’s not an ideal charger for a sealed battery but my smart charger for sealed batteries is kaput ?

She was told it had a new battery when she got the car a year ago but it’s date stamped 2012 so methinks seller was lying git, so quite possibly this battery is on the way out, especially as she only pops out once a week for shopping.

Looks like I’ll be getting her a battery soon.

The break down services told me very recently they've been doing absolutely shit loads of batteries. One of them said it's because peoples cars are being stood for weeks not being used, so they're being called out to check/replace them.

That wouldn’t surprise me one bit Billeh. I run about in the little Suzuki for at least an hour before I go to the supermarket, same when madam takes the toyota to work three times a week, so they’re getting used at least.

The old girl next door only ever went out twice a week at most before COVID and as her sons or the wife and I get her shopping she has only been out twice since lockdown.

Just taken battery off charge, I’m hoping it has some volts in it in the morning (the charger wouldn’t go higher than 95% charged) so it does look like I’ll be ordering her a new battery soon.

One of the parking spaces in the residents' car park on my road is substantially wider than the others, due to the layout of the car park.  Normally I try to nab that space if I'm working on a car, as it gives more room to work around it.  At the moment though working on cars on public land is frowned upon, but it occurred to me that I have two quite narrow cars each taking up a space, and if I could fit them both into the one wider space it'd free up a space for one of the neighbours.  So I gave it a go.

Loads of room!  Even with that Fiesta parked right on the line.  They'll be staying like that until lockdown ends.

this happened here modern the old git uses to potter to shops or go to sisters to sort dog and or kids

due to lockdown not been anywhere near kids (over 70) and the small shop is 5 mins walk - shes been out twice in 6 weeks

so i go out - canvas bag full of stuff she couldnt carry it anyway - - needed to go to bank cashpoint so once warm ragged in first and second with revs up to give it some charge

bike got pottered round the front path once - have a trickle charger for that - not been out on it for three weeks :(

My old zx got an advisory for an oil leak on its last mot... Never did find it, just filed it under ignore! Never used any oil, so it couldn't have been that bad

Make a spray bottle with washing machine liquid/powder and a bit of washing up liquid. Spray, scrub with a brush then suck out with the karcher. Repeat a million times!

Looks satisfying! Can't wait to do mine when the weather picks up

Thanks, that worked a treat. I used an old, mostly washed out kitchen cleaner thing with washing machine liquid and washing up liquid mixed with boiling water from the kettle. Found an alloy wheel brush that was t too harsh then got to work.

The difference was amazing, did every square inch of the interior I could get to, in the end the sun is drying it out just nicely. Did the headlining, seats, carpets, the whole thing. The driver's door card cloth bit was so black I actually thought it was plastic trim, and the windows were so disgusting it must have been almost impossible to see out if in the sun. I used the hot water/washing up liquid/sponge/wipe off with newspaper thing, the windscreen took 3 goes of that.

In first going back out to it this morning, it did smell a touch better after yesterday's efforts.

After a 2 hour go today (above pictures) it was much better again. Went out to it just now and sprayed Febreeze and air freshener inside, will try it again later and see if smell is much better. Fingers crossed.

Nice! I always thought these Golf’s were pretty resistant to rust, for their age anyway. You sure someone hasn’t hammered a Golf body over a Fiesta chassis!?

Winner, nice! I need to get my seats shampooed whilst it's nice weather really. The carpets could also do with it but that's not so bad to do then drive the car before it's dry. Days like today I could have the seats out in the morning and back in before tea all dried.

Maybe next weekend!

No,they like to rust.

Lots of repair panels available though.

I have a scrap shell for cuts stashed down at my cousins farm yard,so that'll come in handy.

I must admit, I thought this area was the private compound of Wuvvums Rare Vehicle Emporium, it certainly seemed that way when I visited last year. I’m sure the old boy in a Freelander asked permission to drive through it.

Mine was rough on the jacking point but only drivers side. I also had rust on the sunroof drains on a pillar, and petrol filler cap and neck mounts.

Didnt consider it bad for 25 years old / 180k to be honest.

Mo was totally on the level about the state of the interior of this car, and this is in no way a complaint against him.

Started cleaning the inside of the 406 this morning, the stench is unbearable. Left windows open slightly for a day, didn't make much offs. Got the old Karcher out of the garage, the pump for the wash bit doesn't work though. However bad the driver's seat looks, the front part was 20 times worse before I started. In the end, I used one of those scouring pad on a stick things that are normally for cleaning fish tanks.

Did the headlining where I could, too. The interior light switch area looks like some sort of brown mottled bakolight, or some old bag who smoked 300 bifters a day's net curtains. Although better it's still horrible by any other standards. Some perfume I found in another car has been liberally sprayed inside.

I once bought 2 406s from a Taxi firm, both this colour although one was an LXso not as veloury plush. They both stank of fags, so I left the windows open before potential buyers viewed them. I sold the nicer GLX to a couple and they came back the next day to collect, it had been raining so windows left up all day. The bloke was convinced I’d swapped the cars over and insisted on smelling inside the other one on the drive. I pointed out the different specs, upholstery wheels etc, but he was adamant. It was only my keenness to let him take the other one that perversely made him want the smellier one.

11.6v after one attempt at starting, so yes it’s definitely knackered.

Just ordered her one from ECP with my magic coupon browser plugin (honey) getting me 57% discount; a ‘£117’ Bosch battery coming in at just over £50 delivered.

Took Phoebe and Chester to the park today. I didn't intend to (even though I am reliably informed it is okay to do so) ust meant to take Chuckles round the block. Phoebe however had other ideas and for an old cripple she can be surprisingly sprightly when she wants to be! She was out so fast she forgot her tennis ball...

Loads of people down there, dogs aplenty so Chester fell in love with a grey mutt and had a wonderful time and refused to come home, the fat twat!

Went to the shop and GOT BREAD! Not had any for ages so I was looking forward to some toast, two slices in the toaster and er, one slice came out toasted the other side disintegrated and the toaster blew up! Big bang and smoke it was like an old Ford with the valve seals u/s in the  kitchen for a while. Bugger, and indeed, damn. I was really looking forward to toast (we know a song about that, don't we?) but the one slice I had was forgotten in the rush to sort the kitchen out and it was cold and soggy so got left.

well, the aforesaid 'fat twat'ate it actually - waste not want not as my old Granny used to say.

The v50 being the most modern thing i have ever owned (2006) reported to me yesterday that a headlamp bulb was blown. Two results followed.

1. I had one in stock and i changed it easily and quickly.

2. I found my odb2 scanner. Plugged it in a got faults on it even though no lights on dash. Those were :

Current Fault Log
------------------
P0341: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
P138B: Unknown code - More information may be available on the web

Since the thing is sluggish and lacking power especially when climbing any but of an incline i wonder if these are related. I will begin the research once the red wine has had enought time to breath

I had a busy half hour clay baring the bootlid on the merc which was going blotchy again. Then three coats of autoglym super resin polish and three or four ( lost count) of poor boys blue paste stuff. Looked perfect with a deep glass shine. Six hours later look at the amount of pollen I've just brushed off with my hand.
