I seem to recall from my BX days that filter heads can be a source of leaks. Or entirely rotten fuel lines...

The one on my CX fell apart one year on priming the new filter. The new one cured the surging it had occasionally suffered from.

before the days of reversing lights .... my dad would reach for the Hazard switch which would light the world up in intermittent orange ..

I just realised that one problem with selling the Rover, even if I have fallen out of love with it, is that the next owner will undoubtedly ruin it.  Turns out I'm not okay with that.  So now I'm thinking that if the Princess continues to deliver everything I want for the duration of The Experiment, I shall merely mothball the Rover to save it from idiots.  Perhaps it's a car I'd even enjoy more if I used it less frequently.

I often cover the brakes when reversing, brake lights make good reversing lights and being red don't ruin your night vision so you can see what they don't illuminate.

Used the Merc yesterday, again, the battery was flat. Seems that if flat(ish) now they stay that way until a decent run and days of frequent use. Bring back the good old days of a quick thrash round the block and all is, once more, well with the world.

So I took the battery out of the Merc... which sounds simple but really wasn't. For one, the battery is MASSIVE! It looks to me to be about the size used on Artic lorries and weighs about 3/4 of a tonne. Also, very odd connection on the negative side which baffled me a bit, but came off easily enough, just looks odd... It took serious effort to get the battery out of the boot, simply because I am weak, got it halfway out and nearly quit as it was killing me. I know it sounds feeble, but I really have a severe lack of strength both in my arms and back and really should not have even tried. Ended up pushing the battery along the path as I just couldn't carry it.

Now on charge, gassing like mad (well, slight pong in the flat which I do not like!) and then, I have to face putting it back in the car. I thought the battery for the Jaguar was heavy, this bugger is in a separate class entirely!

On another 'back in the day' point, when your battery was going flat/getting a tad weak, the starter sounded slow and struggled, nowadays, all these smart starters (even the XJ-S has a new 'high torque' starter - not standard but half the size and twice the power!) sound fine so long as the minimum voltage is there, and yet .5 of a volt less and they don't even turn over. The BGD was exactly the same and it's annoying.

I am now laying on the floor, really hurting and not allowed any more painkillers (had enough of double/triple dosing on opiates - bad for you) and the pain s making me feel sick.

Thank you for this opportunity to have a damn good whinge. I may have abused the privilege:)

liked out of sympathy as another suffer of back pains/a generally broken body myself.... :(

Those Mercs tend to run a lorry battery...last time I chucked a cheap one on that was less than half the size and cca. It was never a problem starting it.

Got the ML back from my autospark.  Seems the erratic warning lights and uneven idle were due to a computer control unit full of gunk in the bulkhead.  £50 later and it's powering along nicely, visiting it's favourite places...

The Volvo has a functioning handbrake and a new MOT!

I'm going to collect it tomorrow morning after I get home from work. Here's hoping that the bill isn't too horrendous.

Got the death certificate, one of the nurses came and gave me a cuddle.

Funeral booked for Wednesday, didn't expect to get it before Christmas.

Funeral director's dad used to race cars same place as me.

He also had a Classic Mini Cooper under a sheet.,

Looked brand new. Didn't buy that with what I'm paying.

I’ve just bought it’s country cousin, an ML270CDI manual. Less heavy on the juice but no doubt a lot less fun!

A pass from her majesty's vehicular inspectorate.

bbe1ffb9e9d78789e7680b3d0e5ddb59.jpg

On preparing the car I noticed both rear wheel cylinders were leaking badly. Obviously removing those was impossible without buggering the short steel brake lines that run from the drums to the pivot point of the rear beam.

This was no bad thing, as removing said pipes revealed some corrosion on both which would have been hard to see on the car - Datsuncog's recent norn iron MOT escapades have shown me that they seem to have a bit of a hard-on for brake pipes at the minute so I used one of my favourite tools, Franklin branded brake flare tool like this:

Even a buffoon like me can flare perfect bubble and double flares every time, especially off the car.

Making up brake pipes is one of those jobs I actually quite enjoy, copper (Kunnifer?) Is a lovely material to work with, and it looks lovely on the car. (I'll get me coat)

I think the wee Roomster deserves a cambelt now after passing with no advisories.

Anyone know a decent Humanist funeral speaker.

I sacked mine earlier, will see if the Funeral Director has any more lined up.

I used one of those brake pipe tools on the steel tranny van pipes. Magic!

At funerals I've always thought it's more personal when a friend or relative delivers the eulogy.

On Wednesday our 205 Gentry was sold. It was a nice car which we have run for the last 8 months and 4000 miles, but where I live isn't the best place for such a thing. Farmers generously slather the road from my abode with mud and cowshit, and it's original paintwork wouldn't have stayed decent for much longer. I also got fed up with the autobox, always thinking how much snappier and thrifty it would be as a manual, and that lots of modern 1.4's are as quick but with lower tax. I preferred the 1.4 GT I used to own.

I have inherited a replacement motor which will be foisted on me in a week's time. It's a car nobody in the world wants, me included. It's so horrible that I'll try it to find out why anyone would want to buy such a thing and will report my findings here. I just can wait.post-7547-0-16410500-1544788862_thumb.jpgpost-7547-0-81228500-1544788923_thumb.jpg

I still don't have either of my vehicles back so using mate's MINI Cooper S, Today's bing bong warnings, it's cold (I knew that) and tyre pressure. Checked the tyres and passenger front one is well down, then saw the driver's front was bald. Currently sat in tyre place getting them fixed. Well that's my mates Christmas present sorted.

Well today's trip to charity shop warehouse turned up these finds. Little drop leaf table , to be sanded and re done. But mainly this carved car.its in one solid piece and about 18"long. Bloody heavy. So a bit crude but not seen one before. Not sure what to finish it in yet. Probably wax it , well it is a car. Bonus was half price day. So both for six pounds.post-19805-0-49194600-1544799714_thumb.jpgpost-19805-0-80181900-1544799731_thumb.jpgpost-19805-0-20297500-1544799748_thumb.jpg
