Phone call this morning from the boss of the auto transmission workshop to confirm that he would call me next week about when the CX will be called in by him for the gearbox repair and rebuild to begin and to discuss costs (anywhere north of £1500 + VAT would be my guess).

"It won't be cheap" he says, before going on to quickly say that if he had a CX that was in the same condition as mine, he'd go ahead and spend the money regardless.....

Ah, the XJ220. Has Rover 200 series tail lights?

Posted

No idea on the lights. Here they are.

It's the METRO 6r4? engine though the guy said.

Are my eyes shot, or is the depth of that door absolutely mental?

My house has external walls thinner than that

That's the thing that strikes me about these supercars - they have a huge footprint, but the actual cabin space is minimal. Less is more?

Had the Mercedes’ Air con serviced today. Two years since he last did it and some of the gas had run away, so needed a little extra putting back in.

John at www.air-care-automotive.co.uk if you’re near Surrey. He’s mobile and based in elstead near Farnham.

Performance test was getting 6degrees at the vents so all good.

Lights from an R8.

I have a spare pair of those, I'm seriously tempted to put them on eBay as XJ220 lights, £100 the pair.

Air conditioning in room of computers has decided to want a raise, so took fire escape and turned off the mains and tried again. The results were highly informative: it didn't work. At least it gave me an opportunity to find a forgotten (but working) fire alarm with its tag. Made by Carter's of Burnley. Funnily enough I have some smoll sirens made by them.

Our MG Metro had a joy rider today!

We all agree 17.8 mph/1000 in top is not enough.

Sorry. Late to the party. Metro 6R4 was naturally aspirated, whereas these are twin-turbo, and more related to the racing engines that were developed from the 6R4 lump. Not much that's interchangeable but same heritage.

Didn't TWR buy the engine design from Austin Rover after Will Gollop slapped a pair of turbos onto his 6r4,and promptly pissed all over everyone else?

Something like that. Wonder how much they paid? Not much knowing Tom!

Any interest in a £16 roffle for this?

YES

Edit: Tell me you've bought an i3 for when the r8 is getting bodywork..

This soft southern lad is in Glasgow until Monday for work. Any recommendations from local shiters? (or if we could even manage it, a pint?)

ah sorry, it was the A2 I was thinking of.

If you like burgers check out Bloc in sauchiehall street. Too many pubs to list. Doghouse is good too in merchant city if you like Brewdog beers

330 manual, 12 months test, 159k miles

Only if it's faster than a Laguna V6.

I didn’t think the a2 needed bodywork.

Should probably read the whole thread...

It probably doesn't, I was mixing up roffles tis all.

Pm sent.

A guy at work was looking at ones for 3k a bit newer. I'll suggest this.

I also suggested a straight swap but might not want to now I think about it.

Might be open to buying a ticket though.

Yup, I would have thought that would get a warm roffle reception... If it goes that way then please put me down for a couple of randoms!

The working/non-working ratio on the fleet is all f*cked up again. Six cars, only five of them are here, one has no engine, one has a partially-dismantled very leaky engine, one has an utterly borked transmission. The Nippa is ok, the Rover is lovely. Here are the two blue ones.

I had a good go at cleaning the pulleys up on the Invacar today, but it's just made it screech like never before, so I can't really call that a success. I am now slightly deafer after making the mistake of going for a test drive without the inner engine cover. A pulley and belt swap is on the horizon. Gawd knows when though, as I seem to be permanently busy.
