Yes, the only way is going to be either a very short Spaniard or cut one down. I may have one in the toolbox, so long since I looked, I can't remember! I was amazed that Hylomar was still good after at least 6 years in the box!  Odd system with the thermostats: one side has three 13mm bolts and points forward the other, has four 11mm bolts and points to the side! I was astonished that each and every one of the bolts came out without a major fight and everything looked good, not even alloy corrosion.

Of course, I am now paranoid that I have got one or both thermostats on the piss and the housing will be on the piss and leak like a sob! I hate being me sometimes (all the time really!).

I remember seeing the V12 described as two straight sixes nailed together with one & a half cooling systems. Different size stats means that comment makes sense at last.

I obviously didn't explain properly, the thermostats are identical, just the housing on each side of the engine are (totally) different. Very odd... Man, I hurt tonight, my hands are fine but my back and legs! Jeebuz, bloody low cars and bending are not good for a 'gentlemen of a certain age!; and decrepitude!

Ahh gotcha I think, I've never seen one in the flesh as it were. Not to look at properly for working on anyway.

I went out last night to clean the inside of the Puglet's windows, and thence sorted out tubs for the sunroof leak to be caught in. This morning I tipped out the water!

Amazingly, after another night of gales and bouncing bins etc, today has dawned bright... and breezy - took the dogs to the park overlooking the sea and nearly got blown off the cliff top!

But, apart from having to prop the bonnet up with a walking stick to stop the wind trying to dent my bonce, jobs got done! I tried to do the oil pressure switch but failed, after bringing every size spanner from 10 - 17mm none of them were big enough, jaws wise, or short enough lengthwise! So I abandoned that and made a start on thermostats. Pretty easy actually :) and there is loads of space once the airbox lids are off and the filters out of the way. My car does have the drain for the rad, but I am such a feeble old cripple (I really am: AS so walking stick etc)I couldn't undo the thing! Anyway, surprised to find a pair of old thermostats in place (I was convinced some nefariousness was afoot!) but they feel really weak and the coolant was all blue and clean, a very good thing I feel :) Also new air filters so it does sort of show the car has been looked after? Start to finish in 90 minutes which for me (very slow these days) was pretty good.

I have left it without water until such times as the Barrs leaks turns up from Amazon and put a BIG note on the screen to inform me... just in case!

Anyone have any ideas how to change the big pressure switch? Looks to be about a 19mm but it will have to be a short little spanner unless there is a trick?

I’ve just had the oil pressure sender replaced in my straight six merc. My mechanic had a look first and said he’d come back with his stubby spanners. Must be a thing.

The Audi A9 hasn’t been released yet.

I have my suspicions as to the accuracy of this article...

Agreed, it is yahoo, and probably written by a hack for about 50p. Still, it plays nicely into AS stereotypes  :-D

I am rather drunk and this seems like a good opportunity to announce that I covet Captain_70's doloshite.

In other news, my brother (Alex) and his long suffering other half (also Alex?!? but female) had a baby boy this morning, weighing in at a meagre (for my family) 9lb 1. Emergency trip to Kent ensues this weekend.

I’m really sorry you have to go through that

Nah, it's alright - mine works. :P

It also appears to still have most of the 120 horses it left the factory with, and it most definitely isn't restricted to 75mph.

My mum has brought up the fact she's losing touch with the GSi a bit: the interior isn't as nice as on the GTi, which is in excellent condition inside.

It's heading towards being rust free now, with its new wings, all it needs is a patch on the sill and it'll be pretty much as good a car, P selection notwithstanding (this needs fixing but Old Man is procrastinating as he says the exhuast needs dropping to address it - still, urgent issue).

Old Man seems to think he could improve the paint (what of it is the right colour) with scouring pads and two-pack lacquer: I am sceptical, but intrigued nonetheless.

To this end the GSi is starting to become a bit redundant, and while it isn't happening for now it seems it might be for sale at some point. The interior just isn't in as good a condition (the seats are sagging), and it has an odd musty smell that keeps coming back whatever I do. Externally it's OK, but nothing too special - yes the paint is reasonably shiny but the car isn't that straight (London giffers), a couple of trim pieces are missing and so on.
A part of me would quite like to rehome it as it opens certain other avenues. My mum doesn't seem too opposed to the idea of a Renault 4.

after bumping into NewPod who was changing bulbs in a pore mot fluster , I turned around and this little old lady was gripping the corner of the shop wall in an effort to stop being blown away , I supported her and asked where she was going , to my car , so I took her to the car , and her key fob would not work ..

so I tried the nearside door lock and opened the car , and found the battery was dead .....oh .... I just got it ( the car ) from the this shop ...

so back we went into the wind and into the shop .. she nearly blew away again !!!

and explained to the shop owner what was happening ........ one very happy looking chat .. not

I wondered what the fuck you were pissing about at.

BMW 730d, that's very specific!

What about the other 7 series?

That type of people who'd buy a petrol BMW are very different to those whose company leases a deisel bmw for them.

Remember hiring one when we moved house. Interior plastics were hilariously shit, I was warned to be gentle with the gearchange and also warned not to apply pressure to any panel for fear of it buckling under the pressure. It was a bloody good drive though, and didn't hang about! I was impressed.

Has anyone drove a bus while dressed as Scooby Doo?

Why, are you about to?

Depends on your course. I knew people at Uni who were only in 2 days a week for a couple of hours. I was in every day at 9 and finished at some point between 4 and 6. I didn't even live in halls on site, I drove in 30 mins each way every day, so it was the same as a full-time job. Except I also had to find time for all the additional project work that was expected to be done outside of Lectures/tutorials/etc.

Univesity was bloody hard work on my course. And I had a part-time job to be able to pay for my own transport and pay my Uni fees.

You did it RONG.

That's why they invented degrees in art history and philosophy so you could have the experience of going to university without learning anything useful.

I’ll take the high road, you’ll take the low road - but mainly because the carb is fucked and you can’t get any torque out of third gear.
