This afternoon I was too hot so I slung my canoe in the back of the Morris and went for a paddle on the 40 foot drain which is just near me. I fell on attempting to get out of the water and drove home soaking wet. The sky suddenly went so dark that the outside light came on (see windscreen reflection) and it pissed down. We're off to Essex tomorrow so given the poor windows seals I expect to have a wet arse for the entire weekend.

Teeside just took a pasting, very impressive under it!

I like a good thunderstorm, it helps clear the air. Far preferable to the blast furnace winds in 35 degree temperatures last night.

Astonishing. It was perishing here last night (as in comfortably below 20 degrees).

1933 'C' type, owned it for 5 years, and I still use it to carry things. If I make home on Sunday night I'll give you a peek of whats on the back.

Sold my Range Rover-nearly 12 years of excellent service-only two FTP's in 12 years - one under the carport and the other had to be recovered-both in the last year. Would have kept it-but have bought a campervan and sold the caravan-so no need for it. Royale and senator performing daily duties.

Was investigating a rubbing noise on the rear of the wife's qashqai.

Turned out to be a rubbing splash guard so easily fixed......bigger issue I noticed was the big rusty hole in the side of the trailing arm on that side.

Had a look online and the cheapest pattern swinging arms are £300!!!!!

I haven't looked to see if the other side needs done too.....

Top tip - replace it with a length of 4x2 from local timber merchants, make a saving.

In all seriousness, what is the anti perforation warranty? On some Nissans I think it's 12 years.

If they are anything like Alfa Romeo they will say that it isn't covered  by the anti perf warrenty. I had an Alfa 159 with a rotten front subframe but as it is a bolt on component they said it wasn't covered. No surprise it rotted out really as the new one barely had any paint on it and no anti rust treatment at all.

I had mentioned on here that I was going to move on the ex Vantman Saab 900 which has been my daily for the past couple of months.

Replacement daily comes courtesy of Bramz.

He was coming down to Devon to collect another vehicle so we hatched a plan for him to deliver and I then delivered him to his new purchase.

It seems to drive very well, but the test is short so we'll have to see how that goes!

Oh, and Saab still available.

This, the front subframe also looks alarmingly orange.

It's an 07 with 165,000 miles so I'd say well beyond any corrosion warranty

One week after the CX battery had a full charge, followed by a rest in the shed:

That's 0.7v down with nothing connected. I'd say that was fecked.

Nothing for it now, except for a beer. Estrella. That will do me until I can find sixty-five quid for a new battery.

12.73v after a weeks rest is fine, presumably it was at 13.4v after being charged right up full? Anything over 13v on a resting lead acid is just the surface charge which drains away quickly.

That said, it could still be knackered - but you can't tell a lot about a battery with voltage alone.

As Cobbler says, that looks fine. Very rare for even a new battery to read much above 12.7v after standing.

If it was buggered, I’d expect to see under 12.5v

Can you load test it? My Citroen garage has a big metal clamp thing they put across the terminals. If it drops to 9v it’s definitely dead. Often you just loose one cell which would give you just over 10v on charge. Yours may be ok.

put a load on it , such as the 4 amps of a  head light bulb and see if the arse falls out of the voltage within minutes .......  if not , try it again in the car

Hmm... I don't have any specific test equipment at the moment, but I can probably buy a load tester thing from Amazon.

Only one way to find out....

Cats and myself headed along to Classic Nostalgia at Shelsley Walsh today. A half-arsed video will appear at some point, but until then...

We were guests of Stratstone UK - perhaps they're considering a Dacia franchise. Mr Cats enjoyed this McLaren thing. I enjoyed capturing video of its pantograph wiper. They were quite happy to entertain such oddity, as if I'd asked to hear the engine revved.

This Simca 1500 estate is surely the nicest car there. You don't see many of these! I do of another, and it's owned by an Autoshiter too...

This Chevrolet-powered Vauxhall Firenza was insane.

DjMKQ68W4AEdJdy.jpg

Though possibly not as insane as this mid-engined Austin Seven special, with chain drive.

Then a Big Healey got biffed. Ouch! Driver walked away, having learnt that if you lock the brakes, keeping your foot down isn't the solution...

It was hellishly greasy up the hill, so very entertaining to watch. I'm back there for the Retro-Rides Gathering on 19th August, and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Some car park shenanigans to finish. I liked this 600, even if the passenger wiper blade is too short.

Rover in good company.

Don't know if it's going to be a grin or a grump yet.  My dashboard is currently sat under a load of books, two used Princess brake discs and a cast iron casserole pot in the hopes that's enough pressure to get the veneer to glue evenly.  Without drilling out a million rivets to strip all the fixings off the back of the dash insert, using a vacuum bag or clamps isn't really practical so this is the method I've used.  Hope it works!

Today I experienced something called rain, I vaguely remember it, unfortunately this meant the driver's side wiper blade fell apart. I popped into Halfords and was impressed that they actually had one, it was just like the old days.

What’s the reg on the mclaren? I expect it was outside the lab earlier.

Swapped the Marina over with the Rover today at the in-laws ready for a show next weekend (I need rear belts which the Marina hasn't got yet) took the opportunity to take a photo of the pair together.
