Top buyaging trig and anon user! What a find that marina is, you only need a saloon, and a coupe (oh and a pickup) and you'd have the set!

Warning, modern content.

This arrived today.

I know it’s not exactly AS but it’ll be good at towing shite, and ploughing comfortably between Wales and London every week. And it’s SO MUCH nicer to be in and use than the outgoing BMW. Also, beige.

I had to enlarge the image in order to see the Skoda emblems on the wheel centres, as I didn't know, either. No idea what model it is, though!

Yup, Kodiaq. In massively uncool 190PS Diesel flavour, for maximum hatred on Mumsnet.

I 'think' I've just agreed to have the Merc re-sprayed! Rick the phantom painter of Bentley fame has set up on his own, done me a discount 'cos good customer and the whole job for a grand. I am in two (or three, possibly four) minds as to whether this is the right move, but I like the car and I hate rust! If I do then the car will stand me in at £3K which is a lot for an old CLK but it will be a 'nice' CLK.

British Racing Green Merc?

ERROR.

A grand barely covers the costs for anything that isnt a blow-over with rustoleum thinned with white spirit.

I wouldnt, and no offence but given the conniptions you had with the Bentley paint, you will find some fisheyes on the bottom lip of a door or something and it will be panic-stations again, needing another half-respray......

Trig's new blue Marina is truly awesome - that interior has brought back some good old memories of my 1.3 Super. Noted this is the Deluxe model - was this above or below the Super ?

Anyway, completely wasted day today.

I'd hoped to replace the rear brake pads on both the PT and the V6.

PT failed as somehow I must have come over all Geoff Capes and over-tightened one of the wheel nuts (by hand) on the n/s/r last time I had the wheel off. Also managed to snap a 1/2 inch to 3/8 inch drive adaptor (presumably made of cheese) when I used a breaker bar. Plusgassed to death and may have to invest in an eBay special 12v impact wrench for £30.

V6 failed as one wheel has a locking nut on it, and no key. FFS....

Rick is a really good painter, this is a favor price, He was the guy who sorted out the Bentleys paint after the other muppet fooked it up! Not sue about spending that on it to be honest, but rust is a no - no as far as I am cocerned. Only blebs on the arches but....

Anyway, tomorrow is the day I get the Fiesta! Not going to be much of a collection thread as it is only a couple of miles away and I will be delivering Betty back home. I had a good look at it the other day and by Christ, she has given it a good thumping in recent months! The passenger side front wing is flat, there is a scrape along the back wing (drivers side) that looks like a replica of the damage on the Titanic and the front bumper has been modified so many times, her tame mechanic has got it held on with self tappers! It is also making a 'rustling' noise which has only just developed. I think restoration is going to be a daunting proposition along the lines of trying to restore a 1970s Lancia... only less rust.

Your car etc, but while I reckon your paint jobs could just about be justified on a Bentley, spending a grand on an objectively unremarkable and low value car that might shit its gearbox or something at any moment seems a little silly.  How long are you planning on keeping it? I know everyone said NO to chrome arch covers, but they are an easy solution to a minor rust problem on a car you plan on running for a year or so and then changing. Alternatively, could this paint dude just treat and touch in the rust blebs?

What does the Mrs say about having three classics Trig?

She's really not that bothered, she just asked if that could be her classic!

Thank you!, I think the Deluxe was just the basic model, no frills motoring here!

Skizzer with a diesel? Don't say you ticked the sunroof option too!

I'm in Dorset this weekend (took the Clio), and just happened to glance down at the speedo at the right moment.

Mrs T hastily took the pic. On the journey home it should hit 2,000 miles in 10 days, with the only issue being a non-functioning driver's window which is now fixed. Not bad going for a 20 year old pile of French poo.

Done about 1200 miles in the 605 in a week. It's eaten them up without complaint and about 50mpg average now. Impressed. It did not like the rougher farm road up to my mum's though.

Sadly I found some bubbling in the drivers side rear three quarter. Pretty convinced its had some accident damage repaired there.

Location trivia: that looks like the Queens Theatre in Hornchurch. My sister lives nearby....

It is. It still looks more or less as it did in that brochure photo :)
