Is anyone else here having problems with Tapatalk images? Triggers post above has missing image placeholders.

Looks like at least one of their content delivery network servers has lost its certificate.

Bugger, I did wonder as I couldn't see them and I've noticed a few threads with broken photos.

I'm flummoxed as to where that quantity of fluid can be going without a trace. Is it shifting ok and kick down working properly?

I'm just getting from flummoxed to finding it bizarre. Those with past lengthy CX experience have already leaned toward too little fluid, so I've just kept on pouring the Dexron in. The ground beneath the car remains bone-dry, so I'm as sure as I can be that there's no external cracks or breaks.

Shifting: difficult to tell at the moment because of the slipping. However, when I eventually get it up to 60mph, the rev counter does show 2900 revs, which is exactly the same as before all this slipping started. So I know it is getting into top/3rd range.

But here's a thought: if I drive the car going downhill, the slipping more or less disappears. Is that because the fluid is now going where it should?

Sudden thought / the dipstick hasn't started to slide through the bung at the top has it leading to changing readings?

The dipstick bung/cap stays where it has always been. Definitely no slipping there!

What exactly do you mean by "slipping"? I once had an auto Audi which went into neutral under hard right hand cornering because of oil surge, is it that sort of effect? The transmission oil pressue is the force that keeps the gear pack "in gear". If you are losing pressure and therefore drive up hill, then I'd be thinking there is low oil level.

Perhaps find an autobox specialist, this is an ordinary ZF 'box, not Citroen special magic.

When moving off from rest, all appears normal until the engine reaches about 1700 revs. From there, the revs spin up freely as if in neutral to about 2900 revs but actual road speed remains the same - similar to what used to happen with early CVTs if the bands were loose. If I then keep pressing on, the transmission (and eventually the road speed) eventually catches up. This has been going on at least since April; before that, it performed normally and there was no hint that anything was about to go wrong.

CX autobox fluid level.....

Drain the oil and measure how much comes out as an indication. I have no idea what the capacity is but google will tell you.

Refill with the correct amount of new fluid.

Check the level properly as you refill. Google will tell you the correct procedure but it will likely be done with the box at a certain temperature range, engine running, having manually engaged each gear and checked within a certain time of being put in neutral.

OK, that makes me think there is a real gearbox problem, like a broken one-way clutch or blocked valve passage or low pump pressure.....I wouldn't worry about the fluid; time for an auto transmission specialist.

If it was mine I might first (optimistically) take the sump off and check/change the filter / oil pickup screen (assuming this 'box has one) and look for debris. Then fill up as per Dave and hope for the best.........

Forgive me, is it an R8?

I remember my mate being on his arse in about 2004. It was all going to shit, and he bought one for £200 out of a newsagent window card. I remember being in it thinking ‘hang on a minute - this isn’t shit at ALL’! It was a real eureka moment. It was honestly perfect - seats were sublime, nice ride, great visibility, sweet little engine.

Somehow, I’ve still not owned one - although I nearly convinced Bollox to sell me his old Henley Blue one a couple of years ago now.

I have to try one soon. Ideally G reg and in a shit colour.

Yeah sorry borne I forgot all about that! My dad is still driving the Henley blue effort and loving it, I offered him a swap with my 45 V6, he wavered for a moment, then said no thanks. He proper loves the old 214.

As of today I have indefinite right to remain in the Ununited Kingdom.

Hell, I didn't even have to do the history quiz for that.

You are the least affected considering you being out of the country most of the time.

That comment, made in jest, and yours of last week regarding the half German coping well with it had me crying with laughter.  Note to the PC brigade: I'm not a racist.

Recorded some episodes of Pimp my Ride.

In every case I much preferred the car BEFORE the work was done. Who needs a PlayStation in the boot? Would anyone seriously stand behind their old Honda saloon playing Crash Bandicoot in Sainsbury’s car park?

Hmm, just checking the 605 over before a reasonably long trip this Sunday and then Saturday back, and it's low on oil. Okay fine, I will get some and top it up.

Gearbox dipstick seems to be hidden somewhere. Can't find it.

Coolant levels fine.

Rear tyres look fine.

Offside front is a bit under-inflated but otherwise fine.

Nearside front is perishing pretty well. Fuck. How on earth was it not picked up at the MOT?!

Checked the underneath of the car and other than some flaky underseal it all seems okay, but one of the rear subframe mount areas is oddly orange coloured. A firm prod doesn't cause any butt clenching crunches but this seems to be the only area of oxidisation.

Not many modern* auto boxes have a dipstick.

Indeed they do not, but the manual says it does. Although, it looks like Peugeot threw a whole load of CBA at it later in life so who knows if it actually is all correct. The V6 auto does not have a dipstick.

My 405 auto with a ZF (like the 605) had a dipstick.
