Am I the only person who uses those funny plastic gloves when filling up with diesel? I thought everyone did that :-S

Am I the only one who demands attendant service? :P

Modern diesels can be a pain, but driven properly they’re not too bad.

This is only a 1.8 (VVTC) so doubt it’ll be a rocket ship somehow!

im happy with the vw pd diesel in my galaxy

omg its you, theyve spoken about this mysterious act in closed circles...

i cant be arsed to wear them as for years handled all fluids related to cars on my hands, except coffee cant stand the stuff.

I always do on diesel pumps - it's the stench you have on your hands otherwise which gets on the steering wheel.

Never used gloves on the diesel Borat; never had a problem with lingering smells either.

pfff, i have a man that fills the cars up for me.

The local station for local people isnt self service. I will need to try to get some covert photos of the inside of the place, you literally have to step over gearboxes and tyres and fuck knows what else to get to the office to pay for the fuel. I dont know how they can work in such a fucking mess.

He's asked if you've got a spare £5000. So seems like its the going rate. Says he's done a few and quite satisfying but a week's work. He also says he's unable to take this on now. Sorry.

He has recommended N Sandell in Iselworth though if you can get the car up here. Said you need to speak to John and tell him Rick Meyers put you in touch.

Every single one through the workshop has had a head gasket apparently and they all have had a blocked radiator. So you need to get this sorted too or it will go again.

Thanks for asking. I am still sad.... :(  Silver lady have just quoted £3600 plus VAT which seems a bit better but they are in Bournemouth so getting the car there might be a problem.

I'm on my way to a new car. I was going to start a thread for it but that's a lot of effort on the mobile site.

Basically I've not owned one before. Its cost me £2 to go from Basingstoke to Watford Junction on the train due to my lavish discount.

It's a high spec example of what it is and has a desirable* indirect injection diesel, which was phased out in the cars later life for a groundbreaking (at the time) common rail unit.

It's not French either.

Give John at N Sandell as above a call for a price. Just to compare if nothing else.

For transport, here or Bournemouth, this lot are my next door neighbours and take care of their cars. Not sure how much it would be though but I could go and ask if you like?

Use a French diesel pump and you will!

I think it could be Italian or Japanese.

Marea, Bravo or Brava TD perhaps.

Ooo a staggeringly good guess. It's one of those three..

This is what Mrs Madrat has to wear on summer evenings, the biting buggers love her.

That's exactly the rationale with Amy having a 30mpg 1.8 pez Zafira for her 20 miles a day, rather than a 50mpg 1.9 cdti which would shit itself in short order!

I will have to stick with derv, anything petrol would cost a fortune to tow the caravan with. Very happy with the VW PD engine.

I've also made a complete switch to petrol. My hands no longer stink after refuelling and, as you say, precious little simplicity in a modern diesel, which was always something I liked about old-school diesels.

I certainly don't miss the greasy palms after filling up with diesel.

Over here every diesel pump I've ever used seems to have been doused in the stuff, and there is usually an absence of gloves or blue roll. I took to keeping an old rag in the boot for filling up.

I guess petrol evaporates pretty quick which is why unleaded pumps aren't similarly afflicted?

Now at Watford and awaiting the seller. Thankfully this isn't a blind purchase (I have learned) so I know what to expect.

Had a FTP in the toyota this morning. Kids to school all good stopped at shop on way home wouldn't start. So an hour wait for the RAC. turned out to be a loose earth lead on the battery. Two minutes and a quick twirl of a spanner and away we went.

I've never owned a diesel, is there some reason it would end up all over the handle of the pump? Can't ever remember getting petrol onto the pump or my hands.

Petrol vapourises, diesel doesn't.

Sadly not. I did get a lift from the seller in a 2.4 20v 156 though.

No it's a Brava 100 ELX TD. Pretty pokey for what it is and some really comfortable velour seats. It's a P plate too.

Ill ask tomorrow. I don’t think they’re cheap though- today’s cargo were 6 mclaren and a Ferrari California. And those are the ones I see from my window, the tax bonded stuff is out of sight.

Presumably by the way it’s just one way in any event? Torquay to Bournemouth or London? Or wherever? With you able to collect by train?
