Decided to take the mini to work this morning - clutch pedal went solid about half way in.. it still drives but isn't actuating. I forgot  how much fun* they are

When you said it was a riot I thought to myself: riots are never fun for long. Hope its a simple fix man.

Ok, the DVLA won't hand over PO details to enthusiasts tracing the history of their car, but they're more than happy to pass on information to cowboy parking firms if they pay. This really annoys me - they can't have it both ways.

They can hardly be expected to sift through requests and judge the moral character of parking companies. There's no point holding a register of car owners if you can't use those details to uphold things like driving and parking penalties. Yes, it was nice when we could get other owners' details perhaps, but that's also a pretty serious privacy issue.

I don't think anyone objects to the government using it's database for Government fines and penalties. Many will feel differently about private companies being given the same information, especially as the DVLA won't give out the same information to injured parties in insurance cases.

And the Land Rover has died on the way to work, I am now pretty sure it is the condenser. It died once and restarted after a few minutes, but then died again a few hundred yards down the road. Fortunately the road is wide, now waiting for the RAC, who won't have a condenser and will then have another two hour wait for recovery. Slightly tempted to get a taxi and go to parts factors and see if they have any bits.

Just hope the RAC fixerator doesn't search for somewhere to plug his code reader into... Hope you get it sorted without bother...

I stayed about 100 yards from where you are in lanzarote in March I think.

Are you in Puerto del Carmen about halfway up the strip near the big irish bar and hippodrome?

Not quite, down in Playa Blanca..... Its raining today mind!

It's taken about 5 days (mostly my fault) to go and view a Galaxy diesel about 20 miles away. Found out it's had stupid amounts of money thrown at it, inc. recon box, DMF, cam belt kit etc. Whanged up this morning to view it, and it's shaking like a bastard at the front during medium-heavy acceleration.

Waste of time/fuel really, but I did get manage to DLAC in the Puma and overtook everyone possible in some style.

Just had a message from a chap on the Ozzie forum about 'dolop': he posted a tech bulletin about the cold start injector failing on these cars, this injector has constant pressure and if it fails, 'can' fill cylinders with fuel. Sounds hopeful?

Also, my friend Betty has just rung me, says I can have her old Fiesta as soon as she moves. This has been on the cards for ages but the timing is good right now. It is a lovely little thing: she's had it since new, Ghia spec and in rust free condition and runs like a champ, always serviced and mot'd at the ssame place etc. Betty is 85 so she is of the generation that cared about stuff. it also has the best collection of parking scrapes I have ever seen! The front bumper is held on with screws and faith :)

I used to joke that I wanted it when she snuffed it and I would restore it in her honour, so now I'm going to have to! I bet the minute I start hunting for decent bits for an old Fiesta, Ford tax will kick in and prices for bits will rocket!

The Bettymobile sounds pretty sweet man. I bet you could end up spending literally pounds restoring a fiesta.

I bet 'I' can spend more than any other person on the planet restoring a Fiesta worth 4pence! :)

Ghosty - with the rotor arm I assume you undid the screw that holds it on ?

Heads fucked on it so not yet. Might need to break the arm. New one is going on anyway.

Up at the SMRC meeting at Knockhill today.

Sports and Saloon championship race not exactly going to plan. An open wheel type track car hit a back marker and rolled over on the grass coming to rest on the tarmac, a destroyed car and lengthy extraction, hope the driver is ok.

Race restarted and at the same place a Seat Leon in the Touring Car style fully collected a Marcos Mantis at the hairpin. An expensive day for these fellows.

Not sure if this is the place for discussions Motorsport, but thought these images of the crash I referred to were amazing, if horrifying.

Fortunately the driver is out of hospital and will recover, I was sitting right where it happened and really feared the worst.

Usually there's a bit of twisted excitement when there's a collision, but there was nothing good about watching this unfold.

A fairly terrifying series of images from Eddie Kelly Motorsport Photography at the link below. Seeing the pictures it's miraculous he escaped relatively unharmed. The car is obviously very strong. The marshals and medical staff were first rate, the ambulance was off and moving before the car even stopped.

I am a little envious of the hazard lights, I might have to fit them to mine as I am sure they will be needed.

Just had a phone call from Specialist car. Not what I wanted/hoped for. Cylinder B4 is full of water. So it looks like head gasket after all. They can't start on it for a few weeks and are quoting £5 -6K!!!!!!! Fuck me, that sounds a tad expensive. :( 45 hours labour apparently. Anyone conversant with these things want to do it?

Shit. Not good news matey.

I hope you can find a less financially damaging way to have it put right.

I suppose you can't just drop these things off down your local Tyres, Exhausts and MOT shop.

Ouch. I moaned when my primera blew it's one the other week . I lost £200.00.

Can you not ask Panhard65 if he will do it?  He knows these cars and I'm willing to bet it won't cost as much as your specialist.

Dislike

On the flip side I'm glad you document your journey with dollop warts and all, everytime I see a "cheap" one I'm reminded of one of your bills!

:-( nightmare, i have done one on a Reliant. Took me 6 weeks, i think your car is about 10 times bigger so i think it would take me over a year to do

Hope you can find away to get it fixed for less.

Didn't someone on here say they knew a someone in the NW who could do the job?  At least get three quotes before deciding, Specialist Cars have had plenty of your money already.

 Those photos are brutal. The car is coming to bits around him and his helmet smashes off the track. Glad to hear he is ok. Grim indeed.
