I'm looking at this tomorrow, it's a tuned Caddy TDI not far from me that hasn't been on the road for a while. The seller is being a bit elusive about the price and gives off "I KNOW WHAT IT'S WURF M8" vibes - I really don't know what it's worth but I'd be happy with something in the scrap value+£100 range. 722647475e70605908bca4853a8bde23.jpg

here is the mashed wing

and the front of the car coming back together, we have replaced the top bumper support rail and with some further fettling the front end of the car has pretty much come back together as it should.

the shut lines are not exactly as they were when it left the factory, but they are close enough for us, we are thinking that the force of the impact has pushed the chassis legs over slightly, like a fraction of an inch hence the reason why we had problems getting the lights in, and then lining up the bonnet.

it looks much better in real life, crappy picture cos it was dark by the time we got done.

the car drives spot on, and, touch wood, everything is working too.

now here is the thing, the car has been classified as a class "N" (non-structural repairable) by the insurance and we have been told it needs a new MOT, a copy of which needs sending through to them. has anyone else had this, and is it a new thing that has come in since they did away with the VIC test? the original MOT runs out in January anyway, so its jut a case, we hope of bringing it forward by a few weeks.

in further news, i've done a buyage, for quite a few quid (proving that i've gone totally doo-lally) cois i bought this RDD 900M (aka Rodney)

now like idiots i missed out on this car the last time it was sold (and on the road) 6 years ago. and have literally kicked myself over it ever since!! again i may have paid too much for it, but it is the only half reasonable chance of us getting to own a proper old skool mini, pretty much just as Issy intended the car to be (and as we remember them). the lad who has sold it has made a tidy profit out of it.he has a baby on the way, and another project car in the wings as well as recently setting up home with his misses, so, i do not begrudge him a nice pay-day.

and what have i bought? it is a 1974 Morris Mini 1000 super-deluxe. (yes i know BL had dropped the austin/morris names by then, BUT the logbook says otherwise) 75k on the clock, it has had a repair to the front of one outer sill, the bottom of the passenger door skin  and a small repair to one a-panel. its otherwise just as it came out of the factory, save the additional reversing lights on the boot lid,a passenger side door mirror and a PYE radio (you know the one, silvery coloured with 2 big turny knobs....)

it needs putting back together, a test putting on it ,i know it is mot exempt come next May, but i will be testing it anyway, as i'm not experienced/clever enough/mechanically competent too be 100% that the car is safe to use.

otherwise sadly we know very little about the car, we do know that it did travel down to Brandshatch in 1984 for the Mini's 25th birthday. and it is 6 weeks older than me, cos i was born in 1974. now that is, i think "a sign"!

but that is a job for next spring, until then it can stay safe an dry in the unit.

damnedest thing, we went out to fix the lexus and not buy another car! the interest though of a couple of other parties kinda forced our hand, plus it was a running joke each time we went down to the unit that we had not yet bought the mini.....

as we were in negotiations to buy this mini, this is why i wasn't over the recently posted blue allegro down that london like a tramp on chips. and also for some reason, kerry has something against the Allegro. she won't hear of adding one to the fleet, but another mini, that was an easy, easy sell!

funny, eh?

When I got the Volvo back from the tyre place they said they'd had to reseal the passenger side tyres as they pissed all the air out almost immediately. Bring it back to us if the driver's side ones go but they seem to be okay.

2 days and 40 miles later, got out of the car at my mates uni halls in the middle of Manchester.

sssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Fuck sake. Glad I've got a compressor on me.

Rubbed down and painted the OS sill on the Mazda today. I rooted around in the communal waste paper bins for some newspaper and cardboard to catch any drips, and found this.

So I now know the bloke in flat 44 has a parrot!

The sills are the tip of the iceberg, as there's plenty of crustiness underneath that needs dealing with. I'm half tempted to chuck some dynax over it for now and do a proper job in the spring.

If you think welding might be needed, don't bother with the Dynax or whoever welds it will find life gets very exciting. I find Vactan safer for 'that'll do' treatments.

Good idea DW, I've just ordered some. It will need a bit of welding and also I won't use Dynax as it'll only give me something to scrape off before doing a proper job.

Looking at the clutch master cylinder on the Fusion, there seems to be a little bit of snapped plastic, inexpertly shown by the red line, could something so small be impacting on the clutch 'action'?

To add to my Fusion woes....shit. So this is contaminating the clutch??

So my Google diagnosis is rear crankshaft seal failure. How much is that then?

I did have the driveshaft seal changed earlier in the year as well... think it was that side...

Sounds like the lazy sods didn't clean the rims properly to me.

Amys dad is over, and asked if I had a sidelights bulb as he thinks he has one out...

2 rear side light bulbs, one dipped beam bulb and positioning the other dipped beam inside its holder later and he's still got the 2 front sidelights out, but I don't have any of those.

My hands are too big for a peugeot 207 front lights too, so I scraped all the cuts I got yesterday up again! Told him to just buy us another bulb kit when he's next over as payment

Is that actually oil? Might be the concentric slave cylinder leaking if the clutch has felt like you said. Crank end seals all leak to a greater or lesser extent on old cars, usually cakes itself to the bellhousing seal. Either way it’s a clutch out job so couple of hundred labour at least.

Using Chaudfontaine to top up your radiator : too posh for AS !

Shed 2 is now fully on stream, with lights and power. It’s next door to Shed 1.

Sadly (from the point of view of new tat purchases) all the space is already accounted for, and then some.

The fusion looks like the concentric slave cylinder is leaking inside the bell housing . That will cause poor clutch operation and the leak . Eventually it will bring the brake fluid low warming on

I wonder if it is time to sack off the Fusion....

Anyway, Green Mondy is in the lock up, the aux belt came off as we pulled up outside the garage and I've never heard a water pump sound so bad, but it is away.

The MOT runs out tomorrow, so RobT really was a bit of legend today in helping me move it.

Battery is dead too, but luckily I had another Mondeo to steal one from :-)

I love looking for a new car! I’m in such a muddle of what to buy tho!

Head says buy another smart car! I don’t really use a car as I have a van and the Mrs has a modern seat Leon!

But its handy to have a back up and I like having my own car to piss about with!

Somthing else is telling me to buy a cav sri and mint it! In my youth I’ve had many L’s to GSI’s and I loved them

Hmmmm

What's the vague scrap price for a picked apart car?

Collected or delivered. With or without cat/ battery/ alloys?

Collected, steel wheels, with cat, fucked battery. Nice* cream electric leather interior if that helps.

That was a fun day fixerating egg's Mondeo so he could stash it away in his lockup (and thus forget about it for a while). We were very lucky the dodgy waterpump finally shat itself here rather than on a busy main road....

post-5013-0-74046600-1512329420_thumb.jpeg

It's a lovely car otherwise, with a very fetching and very 90s beige velour interior. Having the Mondeo bASe as a reference point was handy when reconstructing the cooling system, so that's another justification for egg having two of them!

Pez shot in order to add air to the tyres, as the rear OS was at 11psi. A flippin' quid for air though which has always been a bugbear of mine, it should be free FFS.

Despite being a touch milder today I still can't feel my feet, so time for a hot bath and a beer I reckon!

Cheers Rob, and the smoothness of the 626 impressed me too on a Sunday drive round Whitstable. Good ride quality too.
