If it was someone coming from Edinburgh then I wouldn't have been so critical. Someone is going to get on a train for 900 hours come here and buy a 45 year old car they've not seen before then attempt to drive it 300 miles

home I had to flag it up.

Probably saved them and yourself a load of grief.

Civic won't start, -3C was too much for it. Seems to turn on the starter alright but would only cough and splutter rather than actually firing. Now it's gone all weak battery on me.

0/3 cars working. NICE.

The only time our '05 Civic wouldn't start was after it had been started, moved a few feet and then switched off.

(Grrr, drivers with no mechanical sympathy).

Plugs wet with petrol: onto gas ring for a minute, back into car hot and brrrmmmm..........

This happened with a guy at works Fiesta. He came in late on his push bike as his car wouldn't start. It sounded like the battery so I gave him a lift back at lunchtime with some jump leads.

When we got there it started without a jump but was rough and a bit smokey for a few seconds then cleared up. He said the night before he'd fitted a headlamp bulb to the car and started it up so see if it worked them shut it down again.

It's not happened since.

When it was cranked when cold, probably not enough revs + strong enough spark to start. However it would be still chucking fuel in. Double check in the manual, but almost certainly on all fuel injected moderns, if you press the accelerator down to the floor and crank, it'll disable the injectors. Should help clear the flooding.

Also, I really wouldn't get a Renault (Dacia) diesel literally just out of warranty! My experience of new moderns is that they usually have a instance of crapping themselves around 3 to 4 years.

Get in there! Just bought a 2010 Corsa D 1.2 with HGF that's already been K-sealed.

Rattling bootlid on the Bini solved by unscrewing the bungs in the lid a bit. It's quieter than when we got it...

Spotted someone driving a 2014 Lincoln Mk.Z before. Cool thing, odd car to import.

I had someone who was going to get the train up from Lincoln to get the P6.  I told them it'd probably not done more than 30 miles in the last year, probably 2 in the last few months and couldn't gaurentee what would happen if they attempted a long journey in it.  It seemed to put them off.

Too honest, or should i just have let them come up and figure it out for themselves on the way home?

My bloke told me that. I still went,

Drove 100 miles home then RAC did the other 100 miles.

The Civic lives!

Managed to get it fired up at around 12:30pm, -1C is alright, -3C is a step too far. Foot to the floor does indeed shut down the injectors, I had it like that for a bit, then no throttle at which it would splutter, then half throttle (cold start procedure) which got it to fire after quite a while on the starter. All without the aid of the battery booster despite much crankage over the course of the morning.

It's booked into the local Honda place for a service on Thursday so I can look forward to my £150 oil change and being told they fitted a new battery for another £70. Managed to fall out with parents again, which is nice.

Did not know foot to the floor disables injectors... I presume this is not relevant to K-jet?

I don't know about K-Jet, but it's the procedure for starting a flooded carburettor engine, maximises the air going into the engine.

Started the Kia and it made a very curious sound... not one I'm familiar with, not a squeek, or a rattle or a clank, sort of a combination of all of those! It didn't sound nice/well at all for about 20 seconds and then was fine and has continued to be fine ever since. It also got used as the worlds BIGGEST battery charger as the Bentley hasn't been touched for a month and the battery had taken on the starting capacity of a pancake... New jump leads would not turn over 6.75 litres of cold engine so, sit in the Kia in the warm with foot on throttle while charge is transferred.

Started first turn after half a fags worth of charge and I left it to warm right up (two gallons of fuel gone!) and lost the road as there was soooooo much condensation pouring out of the exhausts. To be fair though, the weather while not particularly cold today is really damp and miserable and everything is misty.

I really ought to use it, but I don't like it being outside in the cold and damp. I am a sad old bastard and well on the road to insanity as a permanent vacation!

Thanks to me buggering up my elbow, Mrs_LabRat has taken to using the rover for the past few weeks. (This being the woman who wouldn't touch one as the thought of driving something so unreliable terrified her).

So far the results are very favourable- she likes how well it goes, loves the seat heaters and it's been utterly faultless. This despite her rather Italian style of driving. The only slight issue is it's a recalcitrant old bastard to start at the first cold start (takes a good 20 seconds of cranking to fire) but I gather all L series lumps are like this?

The same cannot be said for her modern 2012 punto, which has succumbed to clutch bearing failure and is averaging 27mpg. Looks like our local garage is going to have some fun with that then!

I internet searched that and still no clearer. I know how to DAB however, so I'm well down with the kids and whatnot.

In other news there's a fighting chance the HG hasn't gone and I've coloured in the stone chips on the bumper with my daughter's black nail polish.

I got as far as that chiselling, debt-avoiding bastard Giles Brandreth and had to turn off.

I was surprised with the van. The escort used to take about 4/5cycles of glow plugs and still ran lumpy for 5 minutes or so when cold. The c15 fires straight up on first cycle.

Another new Alpine GTA acquisition at Hertz towers. This one I'm going to sell on again and try and make a few bob on it to pay for the clutch in the A610.

Dunno about K-jet, but your Gooner should. Worth a try before it breaks itself and you need to do it! ;)

Doesn't usually work on most diesels though.

My godmother, the original owner of my X1/9 is currently in hospital having broken her hip and femur falling off a stool when changing a lightbulb. You'd think people in their eighties would have a little more sense! Anyway she's now talking ( in the ward still) of getting a stairlift and swapping the Astra for an automatic. There's no stopping some people.

Luckily Cav is listening to his DAB probably boogieing to a popular hit combo

I'd have these over a Ferrari any fucking day, but the wife doesn't like them (or Ferraris for that matter) so even if I win the lottery in the next week, Ah'm oot.
