Obvious «they won’t get very far» joke is obvious…

Very specialized/easily recognisable vehicle to steal, though?

I bought a better trailer. The old one I had the hitch seized up, couldn't get it off, and the brake cables were broken. It cost me 6/700 and was good ish for 5 years.  Got 200 for it and bought this one for 1200. Seller wanted 1500.

Looks bloody decent that. Should give many many miles of trouble free hauling. Might want to chain that spare on. Ours went missing twice off our ifor as was just bolted on. A mate of mine lets the air out of his and that seems to do the trick too. Just need to remember to pack the pump!

Bizarrely (or not so, to those better informed), it would cost more for the towbar of the E61 to be removed as they'd have to scavenge for parts to properly do it.

If you want to save a bit of money and never use the towbar, just remove the electrical socket, what is not fitted cannot be tested. If you want to keep the towbar functional, remove the 13 pin and fit a 7 pin socket.

It's probably either in a container at the docks or being dismantled right now.

At least it's found and not a burnt out shell. Tbh going by it's current orientation and condition, I'm surprised it's not.

Maybe they didn't realise it was electric. It looks like they pushed it off a truck without the ramps out.

The misery these people cause is immense.

Comments are that it was spotted driving  around newtown with no lights and police called. Someone has been arrested - sounds like kids?

Aye - sounds like good old fashioned TWOCing by teenagers. Sad, annoying, but ever thus.

A timely reminder for all to look at preventative measures.

Wonder how they got it into that position in such a narrow lane with banks either side.

New OSF balljoint on the Saab today. The rattling from the NSR was the brake pad bouncing about in the carrier. Bit annoying that I didn't think of that as I could have easily sorted that myself! The noise was fucking irritating though so glad it's sorted.

Rather a shame to be honest, having the thief removed from society via lithium fire would be no bad thing...

A mate came to me years ago complaining of a very similar thing. Turned out somehow she'd picked up a flattened coke can which had wedged in the bottom arm and scraped on the driveshaft when she turned right.

Definitely sounds like a part of the backplate is touching the disc somewhere. Lateral forces mean it's not going to rub when there's no force on it when steering the opposite way. Bend it  back and carry on!

Do these have the little tangs on the brake pads, like Hondas? I can't remember, but that's what it sounds like. Usually only on the inner pad, and touches the disc and makes this noise when they need changed..

Edit.. yes, they do.. you may find a seized slide..

Cheers all; the noise was substantially worse yesterday despite having bent the backing plate out of the way of anything likely to rub on it, so I'm gonna assume it's the brake pads after all.

When I checked the pads last month I was surprised at how much friction material seemed to be still on them, given that I've done nothing brake-wise since acquiring it some three years and 16,000 miles ago.

But clearly there's something amiss, and now it's sounding like the Yaris did when it was down to the metal backings - so next stop is a fresh set, and see where that gets us.

If not, a grease/rebuild of the sliders may be necessary.

As a Derbyshire-built Corolla, mine's fitted with Lucas brake components, which are naturally more than double the price from ECP than the Sumitomo equivalent fitted to Japanese-made cars... so I've a choice of either Eicher or Pagid pads, at £43.49 - neither of which fills me with very much confidence, given their rubbishy reputation these days.

Might try the last standing local indie parts place in the morning, and see what they can do - though I wouldn't be surprised if they just order stuff up from ECP also...

In my experience Pagid are ok on something like that. I've used them in the past on several cars and other than being a bit dusty they were fine

To their credit, the management company got back to me within a few hours of me messaging them.  Apparently the information has been passed on to the insurer and they are currently assessing the claim to ascertain whether it is in fact a total loss.  I'll give them a few days to ponder then contact them directly if I haven't heard anything.

Well this just keeps getting better.  I had another message from the management company earlier saying that there was an update on my claim.  Logged into their website and it's now saying that the repairs have been completed and the car is ready for collection.

So I have no fucking idea what's going on.  I'm going to have to ring the garage first thing in the morning and see if they can shed any light...

No need for that any more, any testing station can just look it up on the computer.
