A while ago a mate was stuck in traffic outside Watford football ground,. A few cars ahead, there was a police car, stuck in the same queue.

An old duffer, pulling out from a side road, you know the type, 8 million rpm, but no clutch.

His foot must have slipped off the pedal.

He howled across the road, and smacked straight into the side of the police car.

My mate says the resigned look on the polices face as they retrieved their hats, and stepped out of the passenger side of their car will stay with him forever.

He had to pull over, he was laughing so much he couldn't drive.

I'm sorry but that doesn't work out.  I've done some calculations and if you'd set off round the Ring in the early 90s in an Orion 1.6D and kept your foot hard to the floor, you'd just about be reaching the Karussel now.

🤣 Oh it was painfully slow, we used to stop at the Ring on the way to Hungary as its pretty much half way, done it a few times over the years and the slowest laps would have been the old diesel Orion or an early Nissan Navara diesel.

The most fun was a toss up between a 2.0 Cortina a mate had with some trick camshaft that he 'claimed' was bored out to a 2.2 and would go off the end of speedo* or my Sierra XR4x4 that decided to blow a hole in the Y piece of the exhaust at about 130* and give me heart failure.

* I would have loved it if mobile phones and satnavs existed back then to see how fast we were truly going, looking back I'm sure it was nowhere near the indicated speeds!

Another fraught day yesterday.

I couldnt remove my wife's vanity plate online from the red A4 as it had spent more than 6 months untaxed at some point in the past. That would likely be early 2022 when it was doing the rounds with a seized engine. So I had to post everything off to them.

The garage were finishing the MOT but completely unbeknownst to me, the DVLA had updated their records between the car failing and it being ready to pass. I only knew because I checked online.

Anyway, they phoned me to say they couldnt pass it with the old plates on as it no longer matches the DVLA. Luckily I had the original plates in my garage but I was in my office in Edinburgh. Phoned my wife and asked if she wouldn't mind getting the plates and handing them into the garage. Where's the key? Fuck, in my pocket. Cue some frantic searching for a spare, some keys were tried and thankfully one fitted and she was in.

My wife then went down to the garage, handed in the plates and waited for them to finish. Payment made, keys acquired and I swung by last night to collect it. So another year's MOT. Oh and the vibration when accelerating is gone, it must have been the track rod end!

I've said it before but I'm ranking this car as one of my Top Buys in recent years (and I owe my wife lunch at the weekend)

I'm in Strasbourg at the moment.  It's quite picturesque. 

I had to park in Germany and get the tram as the Rover isn't allowed into Strasbourg being a Euro 3 diesel - even the Park & Rides on the French side are within the LEZ, which seems a bit daft.

I parked two spaces down from this beauty, which is presumably parked there for similar reasons.

It would seem that Swedish bricks are the car of choice for the go getter modern day executive.

Need to close the deal? Lets make them lightheaded first with exhaust fumes.

Are they trying to get away? Slow them down with oil patches so you can catch them up.

Or alternatively it might just be someone there to clean the bogs.

Collegue had this delivered today as her partner is going too be a hgv mechanic... I always thought hilka were cheap crap.. am I wrong? Or is it a great starter kit for him?

The hilka stuff I've had seems to be both ends of the spectrum, @stuboy, some of it would withstand a nuclear blast, others have given up under a hard stare.

I guess only time will tell.

Probably better than getting into Hock with the snap on van....

Well, that was the second of September and after just 3 phone calls, I've got the go-ahead today to have it repaired at my bodyshop of choice. Apparently with older vehicles they like to settle in cash - in case the quantity of work escalates - so the woman said that she'd send me £1,300 now & when the work was complete I should send her another invoice for the VAT - £260. I pointed out that my XS was £250 and asked if she'd split the odd tenner & send me five quid, but she laughed and sent me £1,310 instead. I'll give Chris a ring in a moment...

My Dad had a Hilka 1/2" socket set, which I inherited 34 years ago. Still use some of it occasionally, really good quality. Like everything, probably not as good these days - so not much help to you, just re-kindled a memory of the tin box the set was laid out in.

Body repairs  started on my Jeep, a friend of my son is doing the work

Had a couple of days off work and come back to find they've painted the box on my delivery. 

Shiny shiny. 

Though I hadn't really noticed it looked particularly shabby before. If they've got some red paint going spare they really ought to paint some of the vans.

My local delivery office has some right shonkers. I think the newest is a 14 plate Doblo. They all look thoroughly f**ked, bet they drive beautifully*.

We have a couple of 08 Combos that had been scrapped once but were pressed back in to service during covid but seem to have stayed since for some reason. 

I've also noticed the Vauxhalls look shitter than anything else. We have some 13 reg Vivaros that are also utterly pogweaseled yet the 11 and 12 plate Pug Partners are still quite red. They're still fucked, but they are still shiny. Vauxhall must have used different paint.

It sounds like that will be easy since they never seem to get rid of them.

The postie that delivers to me has been turning up in a brand new smoll van of some description, however it is white not red, so I assume it's a hire van.

I thought GR and VR were rare, but apparently not. I’ve photographed a couple recently in Surrey, but Edward are rarer according to the post box hunters.
