Hired a car tomorrow to explore the island a bit. £38 for 2 days hire in Ibiza of a "C3 or similar". Place your bets. I'm not sure it'll top the beautiful Hyundai minibus from Antalya earlier this year.

I've decided to get the pain over quickly with the new BX and I've booked it in for an MOT on Thursday.

For anyone who wants to look at the history and then make a prediction on the outcome, the registration is F126 OLX. The car is presently on 167,7xx miles and so it has only done about 900 miles since the last test...

The tester at the place I use is decent, so I know it'll be a fair test. I just hope that I don't have to do too much to put it through a ticket otherwise I will potentially be asked to explain myself by my partner, and we don't want that!

Without looking it up, is that the blue 1.9 you've got?

Or do you now have 3?

Not shite related at all but fuck it, I passed my Pensions and Retirement Planning RO4 exam today. I've been studying for it since January and failed my first attempt at the end of last month. I set my brain to malkie and after 2 weeks more studying,  some last minute cramming at the skatepark on Saturday, last night,  in the car park and some more before I started the exam I ended up with 70%.

It's literally the hardest thing I've ever had to study for, even moreso than my Uni dissertation. Simply because the knowledge would not stick to my brain.

I'm never studying again 😂

So you can now offer advice on how investing in rubbish old cars  is good for your retirement ?

As @Dyslexic Viking said; I cheated and bought a third one that’s currently got a short MOT on it!

I'm pretty sure plastic reflective plates were in use well before 1980. My dads old 1980 Cortina MK4 had them from new.

My Dad got a Bedford CA van in 1969, it had the white/yellow reflective plates .

They would have been metal though surely?

I took the Scirocco for an MOT yesterday and it failed, needing unsurprising attention from the sparkly stick. What did surprise me a little was my tame mechanic who spent a long time grumbling about how difficult access was on the bit he was required to attend to. I reminded him of a discussion we had a couple of years ago where we agreed that I'd begin to spend some proper money on it rather than maintaining it on a shoestring. A shiny new carburettor, stainless exhaust & new McPherson struts later, we do not do MOT standard welding , we repair the little fucker properly.

Cancelled it. Went to Google Maps to find where I needed to get a taxi to. And saw 40 or so reviews from the last month where they've made up hidden charges or charged high 3 digits for scratches present at the start even with previous photos. Only lost 3 quid from paying for the cancellation policy so no biggie.

Went to the hotels recommended company up the road and this is my steed for the next 24 hours for a grand total of 60 euros.

Hybrid model. Has quite heavy brake regeneration and the pedals are too far to the right for me but it drives fairly well and after some faffing we got the Bluetooth hooked up too.

Thought I'd better get on with trying to remove the leaking steering box. I'd disconnected the linkages to the wheels a few months(!) back. Today I removed the servo which gives much better access. Also noticed the master cylinder was leaking into the servo. Have spare servo and master cylinder so will inspect and change over. When my back recovers I'll get the steering box out.

As per my post in @spartacus's Panda thread I took it to our work's annual vehicle enthusiasts day.  some other pictures from the day, and yes those RS500s are the genuine period group A Touring cars

Not much AS worthy metal, so the Panda got a fair bit of attention as one of the "haven't seen one of those for ages/ Mum used to have one" cars

The Caliber left this morning on the back of a beavertail, heading for the rainbow* bridge.  It actually started straight up and drove onto the truck fine, but even after running for a couple of minutes it was starting to smoke.

This evening I went on a bike ride down to Hickling Broad - I'm trying to get as much exercise in as possible before the weather turns to shite and it starts getting dark just after lunch.

There was a flock of these wandering around - can one of our resident ornitholologists tell me what flavour ducks these are?

Looks like an Egyptian goose - there are some around here that get very angry if you don't feed them

Indeed. We have some here and they’re not friendly

Orange or plum sauce?

Hmm.  I thought their necks were too short for them to be geese (and they were generally too smol).  Shows how much I know.

They were definitely plastic much like any in use today. I think they were quite new then.

Yep, the ones here at the moment are so smol that I got them mixed up with the ducks the other day.

The ones from a couple of years ago, in the pic I posted above, were fecking massive and very hungry. They used to beat up the swans on a regular basis.

Wow, that’s some selection of cars. Where on earth do you work?

Yeah to be fair its a decent turn out.  Its at the Ford UK HQ in Dunton, although none of the cars on display belong to Ford, but I assume they use their pull to get the BTCC cars and the RS500s in

There was some involvement from the Sierra owners club this year too as it was the 40th anniversary of the launch

I jest. None of this stuff works anymore.

Two broken flip charts and a miniature whiteboard it is, then.

That Crestron stuff would of cost thousands in its day! (+ More thousands for a Crestron specialist engineer to configure it!)

You've got to be kidding 🤣

Also, I was just talking about Mercury the other day!

Sadly not.

The best bit is, the Big Meeting was on how to save energy.

Going by the green labels, some of that equipment was last PAT tested in 1998. There are batteries in the remote controls that expired in February 1999.

And it's all plugged in and on standby.

I can only presume it's all been drawing power night and day for the past 24 years+...
