A nice wee day up at Loch Katrine with the bikes today.

We just got cheap bikes to start us off but I'm glad I didn't skimp on the cycle carrier. The Thule Ride On is great, really easy to use all round. Needed a fair few more straps than were supplied but now it's solid. I love having extra lamps.

There's a thing you don't see any more.  The not-blue Ford badge.  I do hope it's because they sanded the blue paint off an repainted it to match the coach stripe themselves.

I must stock up on Pernod.

After a horrendous battle bleeding the rear calipers, a couple of track rod ends and a Tate of welding, that's the Burds Clio on the road for another year..

Cheers to @jaypee for his assistance and counsel!

Was up there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It's a very pleasant place to pedal around.

Remember this old lump?

IMAG5696.thumb.jpg.a8f6fefaf2dc22d0b30de54d1c38eb56.jpg

Finally got around to connecting power to it tonight.  It buzzes, which probably means the vibrator is vibrating like it should, and the buzzing gets quieter after a few minutes.  I can see one of the valves glowing when I look through the case vent too.  No smoke, no horrible smells, no excessive heat so that's probably a good sign.  I'll retest it with the case off so I can actually see what's going on inside.  Nothing from the selector light, and not able to pick up any static or stations (no surprise there, no aerial attached for a start).  I just wanted to see if it would power up and do something, which it does, so it's probably repairable since the general consensus seems to be these are pretty crude old things and easy to work on.

In other news I've been busy on the Golf, I've spent many hours polishing and cleaning it up and it's now looking quite respectable.

Hopefully you can see the difference in shine here.

I've removed a load of the tat and stickers off the car, serviced it, fixed a few bits and today replaced the 165/65/13 tyres for the correct 175/70/13 Uniroyals which have transformed the way the car drives and wound back up the coilovers by a inch.

I've also removed them shit German plate surrounds now too.

With the 165 tyres

I replaced all of the bolts in my grotty '70s roof rack, so it's safe to put on the roof of a car again.

Oops.  Slight misjudgement of line driving into the garage.

At least it was a mostly empty tin or I'd have a godawful mess to clean up!

Also very glad it was that rather than the tub of CV joint grease...which I've now moved to somewhere safer.

It's not ever day you see a Gp B rally car getting it's wheels refurbed in Shiremoor.  Shit screen shot because getting pic from WhatsApp too difficult for me.

Three or so, broken up pallets will give you enough 'free wood' to lash up Off The Floor option for storage ;)

YKIMS.... + less mess!

Late Brake show confirmed for Deal on 7th August with Johnny Smith. He's chosen the extreme East of Kent, so  not the most accessible to most. I might go. £20 tho!

Richard Porter is coming too.

Who the fook left that bfo bit of a tree hidden in the undergrowth where I was turning the car?

Fortunately it just* pushed the fog light upwards, and bust all the brackets.

Oh well, super glue and gaffa tape to the rescue.

I've got some nice free standing metal shelving, the issue really is that EVERYTHING needs to come out and be sorted.  A lot of things back in there are from when I had to clear my parent's house at zero notice, twice.  It's a big job, and having shelving is only one aspect of it.

30 mile drive with some shopping done, and with the wax stat removed it runs so much nicer.  I feel a bit of tinkering with the throttle sensor may be needed, but it idles so damn nicely now.

Beer time.

glad to hear that it sounds like you got to the bottom of the issue at long last :)

I do wonder now how many of the other parts you have thrown at it are actually still good and may be worth flogging on again to recuperate some of the cost?
