Blatant ringers thread?

Allegedly there was a haulage company not that far from me that had an identical fleet of 8 wheel tippers. It's also alleged that the chassis and reg plates were held on with well greased nuts and bolts on all of them. One of the waggons was apparently known as the test waggon...

it;s goign to need a proper rangie licker to go over it with a fine tooth comb

yes it;s got  foglight   rearlight clusters,  yet is appears to have a 'large'  pod on on a hard dash  - the bulk of which looks early

mosto fthe rest of it looks seriously chopped around

foglight rear clusters, 1980s onwards front indicator units, mid 1980s dash that carried on right through to the softdash - same as on my 93. the centre console on the back seat is 1989 onwards as it the cubby box.

rear seat has mid 1980s onwards fittings

most of the underbonnet fittings servo, washer bottle, pas fluid bottle and header tank are all mid 1980s and onwards

rear goalposts are mid 1970s onwards but not 1972

handbrake is too new, suspect it came from the donor disco along with front axle, engine, box and front seats

BUT

rear footwell heelboard could be up to 1973 as can the door window rubbers.

The only bits I would want off the q plater is the door window rubbers

I think I might have a problem

One coach company that used to run the school buses I went on had three or four identical coaches. Only one of which at any time had working suspension on all corners. Oddly enough that always seemed to be the last one to pass it's MOT.

Someone* in the 2cv world allegedly has two identical red cars registered on the same plate. One in Belgium, one here. In fact I think I was told he only had one set of number plates and took them off to swap. Seems like too much trouble to me.

I heard a story of a guy who had identical cars, one on the mainland and one on the Isle of Wight. One lot of insurance, one mot. Saved him a fortune in ferry charges.

I built a few "Strange Rovers" years ago - Discoverys with all Range Rover panels, but retaining the rear goalpost and back door of the Discovery and the rear swage recreated - Discovery interior too. I'll see if I can find photos.

Check this out, there's one for sale in NZ!

The disco Range Rover combo looks quite a pro job unlike a lot I’ve seen which look like they were put together by the same sort that would have bought a Dutton Sierra kit. All the gaps and wobbly bits covered up with checker plate etc.

You are Les Thomson AICMFP!

I'm not, but I know him well and we were doing the same things at about the same time. He and his brother built a cracker with a Mazda turbo diesel and Les built an amazing long one out of an LSE.

Skilled chap with huge knowledge. Haven't seen him in years.

Cut and shut using two roof skins. I doubt I'll have photos. It was all in the pre digital days.

I met a guy who had a LHD Portuguese registered Range Rover at his UK home, and a RHD UK registered Range Rover at his Portuguese home, along with a UK licence and a Portuguese Licence.  Saved him a fortune in parking tickets and avoided getting points apparently.

wonder why they are all 1972?

Went to a car show a few years ago that had a 1969 Mini there. It was a far newer one looking at it - Rover version 12" wheels etc so I looked closer. The pillock had left the original glass in it with the true number plate etched allround. Came back as a Rover Mini that colour and model on a sorn un taxed / mot tested for 3 years. Not allways so clever these chancers and I expect it was a Ebay ringing kit that made it tax exempt. Or even that someone bought it as a 1st car like that and sadly had not noticed they had been done.

Here's one that's not a 1972, but I'm pretty sure it's not a 1966 either.

Spotted today, it's on coils, not enough of a LR geek to know what else is wrong for 66 but I expect lots.

^^ Everything is wrong, nothing older than 1983 there.

I checked the reg to see if HWF300D was a vanity plate on an 80s LR 90, but no, it's registered as a 1966 vehicle...

I like the way he's put on early lift-up handle doors, just to put people off the scent

from 1956/7 they did. S2 production came in 1958ish maybe they were warming up to it slowly

I actually know someone who has a Series 3 Landy that has a 200TDi, but is still on leafs and has a 4 speed plus Fairey, it's got a galv chassis & new bulkhead, but actually still looks like a series 3 with no OLLI chequerplate or shit huge wheels & tyres. He's also restoring another series 3 to standard, retaining it's original diesel engine, shocking I know

Do you think the self tappers come with it?s-l1600.jpg

But with the document number, chassis number and registration number, at least you can make sure it's recorded as scrap so even if someone steals your framed memorabilia it will be no use.

lol is there anything you would need to do so that isn’t in those pictures?

I don’t GAF about any 4x4 but those Strange Rovers look great.

I have recently been given the original set of number plates and service book from a mk1 Mini. It was scrapped many years ago. Its very tempting to send off for a V5 for it... I wouldn't want it go on a nicked car but I have no issues with someone wanting their car to look older and avoid some tax

Hi, So you don't want it to be connected to theft but don't mind it being connected to fraud, which is theft by another name. Interesting that you make the distinction. ;-):-)
