Dollywobbler's Invacar - Ongoing

So.. steering is fairly straightforward, the handlebars twist around a pivot at the top of the bar with an action similar to that of a motor bike from what I can see, throttle again straightforward, twist grip? Brakes how? Push forward or down on the entire assembly?

Rest of the controls look to be pretty vanilla and/or labeled (switches and the like).

Yes, you push the bars down to brake. No servo, but a pretty decent leverage effect!

WHOA!

Oh, and the engine turns as well. Dumped a load of penetrating oil in via the spark plug holes, cranked it over and now it turns all the way! Dynastart now operates after a few whacks with a hammer. RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED. But decided 10pm not the best time to try a fire up. Need to rig up a fuel supply and find some decent plugs (same as 2CV, handy!)

How's that deadline coming along? ;)

That's been the most annoying thing. I've been working on that until about half eight this evening, when I finally managed to get myself down into the garage. More work to do tomorrow before tinkering can recommence.

Progress already, hopefully you will be bezzing about in this in no time. How big will your grin be when the engine starts?

Maybe it was a combination of carbon and rust that had built up? These look like they would just clean themselves up with a bit of running and be just fine after an oil change.

Huzzah the electricity hasn't all leaked out!

"Petrol only,2 star" what a wonderful message to find under the bonnet! this was actually a genuinely good idea to have,as at the point that one was built, the majority on the road were 2 stroke

Yes, I was really pleased to find that when I cleaned up under the bonnet.

Had a quick chat with the DVLA yesterday, while I was sorting out another issue. They've cashed the cheque I sent in with the V62 but are apparently sending me some more questions to answer before they'll send a logbook. Might be because the chassis number on the plate inside the car doesn't seem to correlate with the one stamped onto the chassis (which I only discovered after I'd sent the form off).

It's been a bit frustrating, because the people who can help with this (ie the Invalid Carriage Register folk) seem to respond to emails on a weekly or fortnightly basis. There's a handover going on at the moment, but it feels like everything has really just ground to a halt...

Can these run on unleaded like the Reliants?

Thanks. I think he did email it over at some point. I must chase up the fact I've paid for one of his books...

I should imagine so. Aluminium heads tend to have hardened valve seats as standard, and I think Steyr-Puch was selling vehicles in America in the 1970s.

Before things get horribly complicated with the DVLA run a HPI check on the reg number you have, then make sure the chassis number shown is the same one you put on the logbook.

All I've done today is replace the rubber on the wiper blade. I could have just replaced it, but I like the look of this blade...

What is wrong with me?

I'd be enjoying it more if I can just get one more feature proofed. Then, freedom!

Leg-endary thread. How much does a knackered Invacar cost then? They look truly horrible, consequently I want one.

This is true. I think the last one I saw on Ebay sold for £550 as a resto case.

FINALLY got into the garage, and realised I didn't have any petrol. Dashed off to get some (hmmm, Lexus) which is probably the only time anyone has purchased £7 worth of fuel in a Lexus.

Splashed a bit in the carb, crossed my fingers and gave it a crank. Not a sausage, which isn't entirely surprising is it? I mean, I'd had to tap the throttle linkage with a hammer to even get it to move, the airfilter has corroded internally and dumped rusty cornflakes everywhere and I've no confirmation that I'm even getting a spark at the plugs. In fact, with the dizzy cap off, I could see that the points were quite corroded, so I cleaned them up. Still not got much of a spark though. All this was enough to take my little li-ion battery down to below 12v, so I've decided drinking tea is a better idea while I work out what to try next. Bearing in mind I have no ignition parts for this engine at all other than what is fitted.

On the plus side, I confirmed that the oil pressure light goes out when cranking. It's green! Who fits a green oil pressure warning light?!
