How many is too many?

How often is too often?

Assuming the 01-01-1999 that averages out to be a new car every 87 days. Not bad going, I would love to sample a lot more cars myself but I grow attached to them too easily and find it hard to sell the bloody things.

Myself and the wife started to go through all the cars I've owned since I passed my test.

We got to 100 and decided that I might have a problem.

Half of them I never even get to drive;  they're bought with good intention and then end up languishing in the corner and sold on when one of my mates fancies it as a project.

I'm trying really hard at the moment to rationalise what I've got down to a sensible daily driver, her two cars (X reg new beetle and 1972 beetle 1200) and my van.  Problem is I've got two W124's in states of not working, a Seat Leon Cupra that wants putting together after crapping out the turbo, a Mondeo ST220 that I bought and haven't touched in a mates garage, a Frontera that I keep looking at but never manage to get anything done on.. you get the idea.

Ironically, I'm working a job now that gives me more free time and some money at the end of each month that I can use for keeping stuff ticking along.  I'm hoping to get the Leon done and sold on soon, then put the money from that into fixing the Mondeo.  The Merc estate is with a mate in Corby getting welded back to a reasonable standard, and I've parked my Saloon one at my workshop with a view to getting that done and dusted soon too.

Thing is, there's a part of me that fancies having a couple of big mercs to tool about in as well.. but something has to give

I have had about twenty five in that time which is small change really. The thing is that I really love buying cars but fucking hate selling them with the associated twatism that comes out of buyers (other than those on here) so that limits my activity as space dictates a one in one out policy now. I am down to four and the Capri is a keeper so it leaves the Puma a bit precarious, I nearly succumbed last week but didn’t gel with the car so I did what I rarely do and walked away.

That is not a problem

I was asked how many cars I have at the moment - the honest answer is I don't know, but somewhere in the mid 40s I would guess.

THAT is a problem!

It is not buying cars that is not the problem if you can sell them again.

My problem is not passing them on again and I have ended up with a more than I can deal with!

New times ahead with me selling cars!

Four point six cars per year, compared to my 3.8. I'd guess Brammy is on eight per year or something.

I can't even fathom the guys on here that have owned multiple hundreds of cars, but I guess these days interesting things aren't very cheap and cheap things aren't very interesting so it's harder to have such a rapid turnover

I think around 175-200. I don't really know.

But you do the sensible thing and sell them again.

I have bought 116 since 2000 but I still have nearly half of them.

^^Interesting idea Barrett, thinking about it some vehicles I've had longer term (a relative term) were amongst the cheapest and most mundane; but on some level I find interest in almost any vehicle. For me at least I know it's nothing to do with the cars interest level etc, It's me. I have compulsive chod buying disorder (CCDB)

my mates had 5 cars - in 40 years - I dunno how he does it LOL

I've done a recount. It's 80 cars...

Posted

The original owner of my 1984 Fiesta still has the Yaris he replaced it with in 1999.

I've had my Volvo nearly 10 months now. Must be a longevity record for me. I sign shite is rarely cheap anymore. I always make a massive loss when I sell so it's not a bad thing I suppose.

Had a recount, 82. And almost all of them have gone on to live again, after selling...

My car count is pathetic. 7 cars in 23 years. The most intensive period of ownership was between 1999 and 2002 when I had 4 of them.

I have had 10 cars  since I learnt to drive , with the Volvo being owned for 10 years !
