Up at 5am as usual for my bus to Notts city centre, then stand around like a dick for a while, followed by the 6am bus to Southwell for the daily grind at 7. VERY bored of loser cruisers...A fairly busy yet largely monotonous day at work. Told a few people to feck aff, lifted heavy things, zoomed around in the flatbed (VW Crafter - not worthy of pics). You know the form...3.30pm and it's into this vehicle(40,000 odd genuine miles!!)for a lift to here and here where I had a lovely chat with my insurance people, who informed me that my insurance has gone up by 30 clams a month as a result of this change in vehicle. This makes me very happy and everything is FINE.So, buoyed up by this info, I stand and wait for the (late) 5pm All aboard!Another happy 5 clams spendage later (for ropey wifi) results in this Which brings us, rather uneventfully up to date. I'm currently hurtling, mostly. More later I guess, or indeed tomorrow. Exciting stuff huh? Hmm....it would also appear that this all happened 3 years ago. Am afraid there is no pez shot either, as the (very lovely) Raymond had left half a tank in it for me, and trust me - it was hardly dented after the drive home! THE DRIVE HOME. Well, to be honest, after recent bad luck, I was fearful and expecting the worst. But wow. I had a great drive home. In all honesty it sits much nicer on the road than the Golf did. A real motorway muncher. No knocks, rattles or bangs. There's no doubt though - it needs an intensive service and a timing belt/water pump kit. Which costs 14 billion pounds. I'm defo playing TB roulette already, and I think it's been that way for a LARGE amount of miles. CRUISE - I've never had it on a motor before (my my, I AM the future), and it's dead good tbh. Works very well and totally added to the smooth ride home. FILTH. I have never had such a dirty car in my wee life. Years of pure, concentrated London ming. Proper clean up operation begins today - gonna go over it with an old toothbrush - round all the channels and nooks and crannies etc before I even start on the main bulk of it. And wow - the interior was much the same! I mean nae harm to Raymond here of course, as they just used it for 'no frills' to-and-fro transport in London and not much else. But aye. Have been de-crusting the dash and centre console etc non-stop since getting it. PINEAPPLES. As I say, clean up operation has begun in earnest. But, filth, coupled with the fact that the tyres were only minimally legal, I decided upon an 'upgrade' and easy fix. There is no doubt in my mind that it suits the Golf alloys better anyway. So shut UP. I have also already started fitting the black leather interior from the Golf - back seats have gone in perfectly - a lovely fit and perfectly working fold-down etc. Front seats are going in later today. I agree that this is all rather pineappley, but the thing is, the seats - whilst comfy - are showing their age. Also rather minging after years of London life. I think the black leather looks good in it too. And I love the smell of old leather seats in old shitey cars.Sue me. Am assuming that the wiring will be there for the heat, but switchgear would be an issue? I'm already considering some aftermarket on off switches on the dash. And I'm talking: But let's face it. I probably won't get round to it. DOOR. Another issue of course, is the rear passenger door being stuck shut. This, and the footwell is rather moistened. Will probably take the central locking motor out of the Golf for this. But, getting the door open or the card off whilst it's shut is probably going to be rather taxing. Any hints or tips will be well received! SHITE. Am afraid that whilst swapping over the seats, all I came up with was 21p and a broken plastic pen. No Kinder Surprise toys! No sticky sweets! Rather gutted tbh. I do love new car freebies... Looking much more betterer after a good wash. Ye shouldha' seen the shite that came off it! So that's about it for now. Gonna take some more pics in a while and update this post. It's booked in for a full service and timing belt etc this week. Which is (after Golf-gate and much borrowage) gonna financially bury me. But I have no time or place to do any of it, so gonna just have to suck it up. If the gearbox shites itself after all that, I will be found at the top of a very high place, drinking bottles of Jamesons and listening to Britney Spears. The requirements for a PD engine are very specific, and many people are not putting a proper PD oil in them.I don't think that many mechanics are taking enough care over this either.The only one I ever found outside of a VAG group dealer was Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel but I don't remember which of the various numbers was the PD one.

I know VAG used the PDs as a differentiator - VW and Audi got them first, Skoda last, but not sure when Seat got them. As for heated seats, the dashboard is straight out of an Audi A3 so you should be able to find the switches in a scrappy. I'd imagine more A3s had bumwarmers than Toledos and Leons.... Ford used to be cracking at giving you the loom for every option, not sure about VW.

dougiefourspeed Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 If its a PD then it will need oil that meets VAG 505.01 spec which should be stated on the bottle. Looks like a nice buy I've never met anyone with a bad word to say about these Toledos/Leons.

Needs two people, one inside repeatedly pressing the remote unlock button while working the inside handle and a second person working the outside handle. Always* opens within 30 secs. Lacquer Peel Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 130 = PD The camshaft drives the unit injectors, I believe that's why oil quality is so critical, if neglected the camshaft lobes can end up being ground down. Handsome cars, these, I don't like the Golf wheels on it if only because they're not SEAT wheels but I put Peugeot alloys on a Xantia once so nyeh. binhoker668 1
binhoker668 Posted October 22, 2017 Author Posted October 22, 2017 Well, the clutch didn't die over the weekend, and it performed brilliantly - Nottingham to Llanberis and back (via Flint - Duke of Lancaster), so that's a decent result. It's very noisy though. Any day for death I guess.

It has 11.5 months MOT, some dirty Seat seats installed (bolted in, but not wired for airbags yet*), some dirty and feckered Seat alloys fitted and gears only from 3rd upwards.I'm calling scrap on it basically. Figured there was zero point on punting it on here, and I'm not dealing with the gumtree mouth breathers...
