If the new owner of the Crown Vic limo is wondering what to do with it, they are very useful for transporting livestock:

I like how only the ‘P’ and ‘O’ letters were removed from the former police vehicle’s markings, so not only was the owner driving about in a car with a bull in it, he was also displaying ‘LICE’ on one side of his car.

I do like a Beetle with  just a very slight nose down stance and empi alloys.

Mine is exactly this! So tempting to lower it more though ...

But Christ on a bike i've just had a look at its mot history (is it just me who does this ?) the old girls had a mountain of corrosion fails over the last decade but now she's gained a clean pass.

Do the Mexican ones rot as bad as their German counterparts ?

You can buy every single panel pretty much for these and being a mexi it's actually more likely to fit on it than a German one.

That said whenever I hear "solid in the right places" in relation to an air cooled VW, I do wonder how deeply they've dug into it as they hide a lot and really due to the construction of the cars, any corrosion that's holed through wants chopping out and sorting, and you can end up picking the whole car apart quite easily if you're that way inclined.

Welcome back! Great looking Mexi Bug. All the better for the replacement front number plate.

Happy motoring 🚙💨

Whats been going on chez HMC?

The limo collection has been arranged by the buyer. I wont say any more but its going to be an epic road trip!

The mexican beetle.

Its got actual patina (aka knackered paint, damage , etc) but i felt immediately that the sprayed up dotone steels were trying too hard; so i painted them silver.

After filling up it was smelling very fuelly. I found out the petrol rank sender wasnt sealed properly so i got out the blue hylomar and that sorted it.

And the front plate had to go….

Brilliant thread. Not everything is my cup of tea but it's always worth a look to see such variety.

Top work.

Brilliant to see this thread back and you posting again, HMC. Your Beetle looks way better than my old 67 which I owned back in the early 90s. Great fun to drive, mind, and the Kadron pipe I ran on my 1300 lump sounded pretty good.

I've always had a soft spot for those Mexican Beetles, despite not being a fan of Beetles in general, I think it is because I love an anachronism, stuff that looks out of date even when new. Painted wheels and the new plates have lifted it too.

Glad to see your back! Those wheels look much better in silver.  Let me know if you need any bits for it as I have a few spares in my garage!

Mexibugs are on beam fronts, unlike the later German 1302/1303s with wobblestruts, so they're basically a pre-war design with improvements like disc brakes and such over time.

Was surprised with my first one ('78) feeling so pleasant to drive - the only surprise along the same lines was trying an Allegro and realising that it really wasn't that different to pootling about in a Micra, and it felt considerably more modern than the Chevette I tried the same day...

Thank you for coming back, this thread is so interesting, i still think that limo would be prime charity banger rally fodder, i hope that is what it's future holds ?
