Hertz Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Lovely! My dad had a met red one in about 1991 as his company car. The velour seats were GR8. Wibble 1

Wibble Posted February 27 Posted February 27 My Dad had a company one too. A black 1.8L auto, which I got to drive occasionally and is why I like them. Burnside, MrGTI6 and Peter C 3
chaseracer Posted February 27 Posted February 27 The Owd Giffer's favouritest-ever car was the Carlton CDX 2.6 manual he had from nearly-new in 1992 until 2006, when the hitherto reliable tame mechanic fried all the electrics welding the rear arches. Peter C, Rightnider and Wibble 1 2
twosmoke300 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Offf. im off to monitor the shite for sale thread for it’s inevitable sale in two weeks 😂 robt100 1
ProgRocker Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Jealous! My dad once wanted a used Omega A based Carltons. 2.0i CD ideally. None came under budget that were in decent nick (most were ex Fleet) so he bought one of the last Rekord based ones instead.
Lonestar Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Lovely example. Makes me want to get mine sorted even more! Wibble 1

I was a student at the time, funding had to be prioritised and alcohol took precedence over cars. I had enough money to buy a GL but I craved the style of a CD. Low ontime Posted February 28 Posted February 28 14 hours ago, HMC said: New top drawer vauxhall shite… lets have a look at the squashy velour… Bloody hell! Where do you find them! looks a nice example, there was a k plate in black around south Devon, everything modern car driving next to it made it look small. great buy
ETCHY Posted February 28 Posted February 28 17 hours ago, HMC said: New top drawer vauxhall shite… lets have a look at the squashy velour… Ooh that's proper nice. Why don't luxury cars look like that inside anymore. No shit vegan leather ( pleather), mood lighting or a wanky touch screen, just velour & plushness. rm36house, chodweaver and Shite Ron 3
D.E Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Most new models Opel/Vauxhall introduced throughout the 80s were massive leaps forward (Kadett E, Omega A, Vectra A). The Omega was introduced in 1986 but imo the design didn't look too outdated 10 years later. Royale80 and chaseracer 1 1

I've got a Vauxhall brochure from 1987, and it looked ahead of its time when advertised alongside the Manta, Cavalier mk2 and Senator A. Wibble 1
wuvvum Posted February 28 Posted February 28 That's fantastic. My tow car when I first started buying non-running tat off eBay 20-odd years ago was a Carlton saloon - that was a 1.8i so slightly underpowered for the job, and not as plush as yours being a GL, but it was still a lovely thing to drive. Six-cylinder Posted February 28 Posted February 28 As you might know I have had a 1993 Carlton 2.0i Club manual Estate for the last 5 years. Also when we bought the Opel Manta it came as a deal with some friends including a 1987 Carlton GL1.8i manual saloon. As we already have a Carlton, I didn't want a poverty spec GL or under nourished 1.8 with DIY gearbox and I was going to sell the GL, but Mrs6C decided she wanted to keep it. It smokes and needs some other work so for me that sealed its fate. Step in @ianbmw who sided with Mrs6C and says he will sort it out so it can't be sold! Bren Posted February 28 Posted February 28 2.0 is best all rounder. The 3.0 12v was lukewarm and hard to justify the fuel consumption. Lonestar 1

Verysleepyboy Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Briefly had a K reg 2 litre CDX auto saloon in that metallic burgundy shade - was a beautiful car for just being in, not rapid, not great handling but just lovely to waft in. Shame the early 90s Vauxhall security systems were shit though - the Saturday morning knock on the door from the local police asking if it used to be my parked outside my house followed by being told where the burnt out car was abandoned was the last I heard of it 😩 Stinkwheel, Westbay, Wibble and 1 other 4

Driver’s door lock buggered but they didn’t get past the deadlocks, so smashed the window. Then they fucked the ignition barrel but still didn’t manage to take it. I think the security measures were better than most at the time.
HMC Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 Fleet news. Fiat 500 sold to a shiter. The ex @2110 ford cougar is its replacement. Obviously. Meanwhile i replaced the speedo cable on the carlton which revived the dash cluster readouts. Fat_Pirate, Wibble, 500tops and 38 others 40 1
