When i got my s class

I can't keep up with your S-Classes let alone the whole fleet. When did you get this one, what donk does it have, and when are you selling it?

(Excellent work by the way. You've now progressed to four-spanner Haynes standard)

You can setup a black market now - when I was a kid there was one lot of folks collected those, the other lot Green Shield Stamps. Trades took place - exchange rate varied depending on who wanted what out of which catalogue.

You could even get a whole Ford Escort if you had enough

When I was a kid the available car was a Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit 2-door saloon.  I wonder if anyone actually managed to "buy" a car using Green Shield stamps.

This shad appears to have originally been a dark gold colour , and as it fell from grace it inevitably ended up white. It has no history, so im going to make a project of trying to trace it.

Alas i presume a v888 isnt a viable option @LightBulbFun - not unless i claim its part of operation yewtree!

Somehow, when I was a teenager, I acquired a set of those chrome fog lamps. I don't know how or from whom, but I definitely had them. Like a twat I lost one, then the other, and I still pine for a set now. They were really sturdy and heavy and I liked the asymmetrical yellow/white arrangement.

They'd have been the bollocks on my Mini 1275GT but I'd lost them by then. Arses.

looks like it had its colour change to white, on the 20th of the 11th 1988, previously to that it was Silver! what it was before then I sadly dont know

image.png.3c49743b85f0d6d41269291ae0ca3bf4.png

image.png.112720444dc856b5fba19d53796af344.png

its had its fair number of keepers! amazingly no previous private plates however which I am not sure I believe really, surely being a rolls i'd of expected it to have had a number of private plates!

tho that being said DBU278K is a completely period Oldham registration mark, so its not an age related plate or anything like that. and Oldham will be where it was first registered, if that helps give you a starting point

V888's can be still be done but last I saw one done, a few years ago, thanks to GDPR they where quite nerfed, and only gave you a partial address of every previous keeper, mainly just the general town they resided in etc (plus any extra info you request like colour or plate changes)

which is still better than nothing mind!

tis nice old thing the Shadow is pretty much the last Rolls Royce I consider a "proper" rolls if that makes sense, so its always nice to see one :)  and glad to hear its been saved from meeting its demise

im sure the later ones from before BMW took over are probably still decent in that regard also, but I have never gelled with their styling

a commercial tool which I pay for that I have access to for Invacar research purposes primarily :)

but im otherwise quite tetchy on sharing its exact details, since well its something you have to pay for so its no good for most people looking for free lookups, but primarily because I dont want anyone to do anything nefarious using it

(not that I think you yourself would personally but in general etc)

Ah, that makes sense. Just something very handy to have with high previous owner numbers. Which in case of this Rolls is just nuts.

@LightBulbFun are these all actual 'change of keeper' or would it also have been when the 'address' of the 'keeper' changed - it registered? That might explain the 20?

If it was a company vehicle at some time in its life it could also have been swapped between keepers within a company?

That may have been in two ways - either in the early days after it was first sold (it's likely to have been owned by some well off northern industrialist or company) or later when it entered the wedding trade - which probably explains the colour change.

Regards the V888 @HMC - The Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club may be able to help.

Rippon Bros were proper coachbuilders who closed in 1969 - being taken over to become Appleyard Rippon - who were car dealers.

Jonathan Wood wrote a book about them:

My hunch would be that the company records survive somewhere so it may be possible to find out more about the car. The RREC will be able to help there too.

Appleyard Rippon are still registered at Company's House - but it may just be the same name being used not the original company.

Interesting, there's still a (Colin) Appleyard dealer in the West Yorkshire area, with a branch in Huddersfield. I wonder whether there's a link there.

This is a Rolls 20/25 with a Rippon body, supposedly built in1929, although the styling looks maybe 4 or 5 years newer to me.

Who the fuck was buying Rolls Royces in Huddersfield (apart from Sir Jimmy Savile of course)?

You are now Tavistock's enemy no. 1 @HMC. They won't know what to do with themselves when they see that. Probably curtsy and wet themselves simultaneously

Often rich cloth producers and merchants. The industry was huge up until the early 1970's.

"By 1961, there were 284 registered mills in the area known of 'Kirklees', 95 of which were in Huddersfield town centre. By this time, West Yorkshire had 168,000 textile workers."

"It is believed, in the 1940s, Huddersfield had more Rolls-Royce owners per capita than anywhere else in England, displaying the wealth of the mill owners at the time"

That body looks late '30s to me - definitely more modern than Six-cylinder's one.  It's got an MG WA / Jaguar SS sort of look to it.
