Shit(e) Ford Special Editions 1990 to 1999

The mk1 Mondeo only had Aspen and Verona right? Not many in context of other Ford cars of the period!

My mum had a Fiesta Fresco MK3. As I said elsewhere it was 100% a Pop Plus they were trying to shift before the lightly revised model came out in 1992, dropping that name and spec.

Mondeo Ultima?

I always assumed with the Scorpio Ultima being high spec the Mondeo would be too but from memory it looked like an LX with Ghia alloys on the outside. Pretty sure it was special edition as I only remember them on M plates.

There was a Fiesta Frascati from the early 1990s. A place in Italy I believe.

I had one in 1994, I assumed it was named after a cheap wine. It had a tilt glass sunroof and radio cassette to make it special. My German Shepherd was always car sick in it.

Growing up, I felt that these were everywhere, propelled in part no doubt by the fact that there was only one car dealer in Linlithgow where I grew up, called Regent Motors. Millars of Falkirk were also just a few miles away.

My mum had a 1992 J plate Fiesta MK3 Fiesta which was, as far as I could tell from the mainline brochure, 100% a Popular Plus model that they were trying to shift before the updated MK3 was released.

Lol, that sounds almost exactly like me. Ma_Sterling had 1990 G-reg 1.0 Ford Fiesta Popular Plus in 'Radiant Red'.

The big Ford dealer around (well near) Telford was 'Furrows for Ford' where her car came from originally.

Ford Escort Silhouette.

I turned this down as even I'm not masochistic enough.

I had a Fiesta Razzle for a while.

Oh no wait, I'm getting confused...

Fiesta, Escort, Mayfair. Top shelf magazines named after 1980s car names. Or vice versa. Wasn't there a car called a Hustler too?

Apparently there's a new Focus Titanium Xhamster coming soon.

Remember these? 1.4 with some XR2 kit

Ah, the 1.4S! I had one back in the early 90's identical to the one in the second pic (the Olympus in the first pic was a 1.4 S with an RS skirt kit). A curious mix, it went pretty well with the 1.4 CVH and 5 speed box, the shocks were beefed up slightly and the XR2s rear anti roll bar was fitted. Inside we had the XR2 dash and steering wheel but only popular plus seats!

What about the run out mk4 Scrote Eclipse and Onion Equipe? Then there was the mk5 Encore, Ford also did Escort and Fiesta Bonus editions, plus Bonus Transit, Escort and Fiesta vans, all based on the popular trim level, but with white wheeltrims and some decals, and a standard AM/FM digital radio which was normally an option. There was also the short lived Escort TDX, which was basically an LX with a turbo diesel lump. We cannot leave out the comical Fiesta 1.8D XRV, a van with LX wheeltrims, and the RS bodykit on, but bog standard L seats, a real mongrel

Felly mentioning the Bonus Transit reminded me of the Transit Jubilee- all in silver and just scraping into the 90'spost-17414-0-90637700-1502228200_thumb.jpeg

There was also the P100 Californian

And the Fiesta XRV

A great deal of these are new to me, the P100 Californian is class.

My favourites have to be the base Fiesta MK3s with the inexplicable contrasting wheel trims but the king has to be the Escort Harrier. So lame, I want one.

We had an XRV as a works van. 1992.

For about a year before it was spirited away one evening never to be seen again.

Shame it was nicked as the boss would only buy us old snotters after that.

Fairly certain my local dealer did a Fiesta Lesbos edition. No door locks, just a hidden button etc.

I too have massive want for a Harrier, have done for years.

I've the horn for a Mk4 Escort Bonus 1.0. I think they did them around the end of the Mk4 run, only one with a 1.0. A colleague had one, the driveshafts were unique as they were Fiesta driveshafts.

Can't find anything on the Bonus 1.0, everything seems to suggest there was a 1.1 as the smallest engine.

Brazil got a 1.0 "Hobby" edition apparently.

Also, their Mk6 had a trip computer in place of that silly little coin slot! Never seen that before...

Never heard of any MK4 Escort having a 1.0 in the UK. Smallest was the 1100 CVH, or OHV depending on year or supplies. There was definitely a Fiesta MK3 Bonus with the 1.0 HCS though. This was my neighbours car H258 LSG

Less than £9845 to buy, so £9844 then? pr £7000, or £200? why not just say the price rather than "less than" which could be anything.

Did they do those Fiesta XRV vans on the mk2? I remember a sky blue one, someone had fitted mk3 XR2i wheels to it, but I was always dubious if it was genuine or not because the V on the XRV decal was like someone had gone to Ford and bought a new XR2 decal and before sticking it to the tailgate they had turned the 2 on its side to sort of resemble a V.

Does anyone remember the Fiesta Azura? Im sure it was effectively a base model, priced around £5995 and the advert had people cutting the car into pieces to see what had been removed in order for the car to be so cheap (as in like not features/spec, more components) and has them cutting and grinding the car, clearly they knew thats what mk3 Fiestas would need to go through when they aged.

Heres a video of 3 in 1, Fiesta Mistral, Sapphire and Equipe. The Sapphire surely looks the best value? Mistral seems to be a sunroof and a spoiler, the Sapphire gets a passenger airbag, central locking and electric front windows, while the Equipe gets a 1.3 engine and Power steering.

Wonder if any Fiesta was available as standard with spoiler, sunroof, passenger airbag, central locking, electric front windows, power steering and the 1.3 for more power than the 1.0/1.1, although the 1.4 would probably have been my choice.

Not really a special edition as such but I quite like what they do to the car and its very unusual to see a video about a manufacturer encouraging modifying your car, but then it was massive in the 90s i suppose.

Again not a special edition, but whats the catch, a top spec estate for the same price as a base 5 door? Cant be as simple as that surely?

This was when the RS brand was moving away from its true motorsport roots into the styling brand it is now...
