Guest Hooli Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 The Adam kind of makes sense as it's named after the founder of Opel. BMW mini, it's anything but fucking mini! Rusty_Rocket and FakeConcern 2
Timewaster Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 The Ford Ka needs a mention too, it's meant to be pronounced "car" and mean spirit/soul IIRC - but even Ford refer to it as a K A because it's too confusing otherwise.I always went with Ka, as in UlriKa KA KA KA! I think the official pronunciation is "Kaaar" Some of the newer Mercedes models have odd names. Fancy a GLAd? fred 1
DVee8 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I have a Peugeot partner teepee as a hire car at the moment. Junkman 1
FakeConcern Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ford Cougar? Ha? Kia Cee'd? Why have the apostrophe?
Timewaster Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ford Cougar? At least the "reborn Capri" Cougar was spelled correctly. The current 4x4 is a Kug ah.
robinmasters Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 It seems rather unfair to laugh at the poorly-translated Japanese names. They probably sound ok in Japan. Ford Maverick. Maverick. One of the most conventional, uninspiring vehicles ever produced. Maverick. Mokka. Kangoo.
Felly Magic Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Who can forget the K11 Micra Wave special edition? DING!

chaseracer Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Who can forget the K11 Micra Wave special edition? DING! There was a Micra Dot too, but Nissan kept it a secret...
Hendry Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Nissan Micra must be the one for special editions tbh, Ally, Vibe, Shape, Celebration to name a few. Never quite got the base model Renault spec "Authentique" either, obviously meaning Authentic, what exactly about it is Authentic? whereas the others, Expression, Dynamique, Privilege, Intiale, make a bit more sense, although the fat arse Megane 2006 "Maxim" special edition just makes me think of the Maxim magazine. Bedford Rascal? Vauxhall Arena van? Seat Exeo (Exeo isnt a place is it like all the other Seat cars named after Spanish places) Datsun Stanza, Honda Stream, Nissan Note, Renault Koleos,
Dick Cheeseburger Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ford Probe - Who wants a Ford shoved up their arse? While you're around that part of the body, one of my mates alway called it Ford Pube. Might as well have been, after this party boy* bought one and buggered its rep. Whoever worked in the 'naming' department at the time was having a laugh naming two of their range as PROBE and COUGAR. They had to throw out WANG as it was pushing things a bit too much.
Negative Creep Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ford Cougar? Ha? Although to be fair that name didn't have it's alternate meaning when the car was made. Also Renault (Ef)FluenceMitsubishi CarismaPeugeot BipperBMW 325 TDSVauxhall Cascada

fred Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ford Corsair - pre cursor to the Probe - as in you have to shave all that pubic stuff off before the Probe gets entered
Junkman Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ford Edsel A car with this name never existed. But a Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Sedan does.So do the Renault LeCar, Honda That's, Isuzu P'up, Great Wall Wingle, Toyota Deliboy, Volugrafo Bimbo,Mazda Scrum Wagon, Honda Life Dunk, Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard, Suzuki Every Joypop Turbo,Mazda Carol Me Lady, Geely Rural Nanny and Daihatsu Naked. But the most stupid award must surely go the Ferrari LaFerrari. Shep Shepherd, willswitchengage and fred 2 1
somewhatfoolish Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Nissan Terrano. Monkey Dust is one of the greatest works of satirical comedy ever made. fatharris 1
Matt Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Daihatsu Naked. Was just about to post this. Naked? Naked. I don't know if it is still the case but in Japan in the 90's English words that were considered pleasant to look at were very popular to plaster on stuff, even if the final sentence made no sense. Daihatsu Naked could be an example of that. Aston Martin, Dick Cheeseburger and Shep Shepherd 3
timolloyd Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Nova was an odd choice, because, I think, it means No Go in Spanish

overrun Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Wasn't there a JDM car called a 'Fancy Boy'. Or did I imagine that? Suzuki Mighty Boy? A lot of the reasons for the dodgy Engrish is because of most kanji characters having more than one meaning. somewhatfoolish and ProgRocker 2
KiwiAlistair Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Wasn't there a JDM car called a 'Fancy Boy'. Or did I imagine that?English can do it too, without the excuse of working in ESOL. I love them but you have to admit Super Snipe and Super Minx are wonderfully silly names. Sent from my Lenovo TB3-850F using Tapatalk Bianconeri 1
