Have I just picked up the worst car in the world?

Hi all.

As some forumites may know, I own a diesel PT cruiser for everyday driving duties. For all the H8RZ out there, I have to say it's actually alright!

Anyway, it has a few issues that need improving, cracked rear bumper, cracked front bumper and rusty front wings. I was offered a similar petrol Cruiser for spares, apparently with a good body and mechanicals, but "badly ratted" interior. It was quite a way away from Stoke being down in Wokingham near Reading, but at 5am this morning I hit the road in the Multipla with the A frame in the boot to collect it.

Colletioneering went really well, the "seller" (I say "seller" as the car was free) was a really nice chap. He told me the story behind his PT Cruiser. He'd bought it mega cheap about 12 months ago, but it had just sat in his yard ever since. The dismal interior killing his mojo. The previous owner had tried to turn it into a van, throwing away the rear seats and various other interior components and putting his personal stamp on the remaining bits with paint. After a nice chat and handshakes, I hooked up and headed home.

Back at home I got the chance to inspect my prize..

Not terrible from the outside, bar the matt black wheels poorly yellowed headlights and numberplate in the wrong place (now with screwholes I need to fix)

Onto the interior..

JEEZ!

Why this has been done to the wheel, I have no idea.

Onto the "factory option" van conversion.

Nothing escaped the humbrol treatment

Screen artwork which isn't even visible from the outside due to the sun strip

Literally have no idea what's happened here.

Bonnet pins and scotchbrited bonnet are a lovely touch.

So there we have it. After I've taken a few bits from it to improve my PT cruiser I'll do the decent thing and destroy it in some interesting way

Has anyone else come into possession of a car in such poor condition due to a previous owners attempts at "modifying"? If this car had been left alone it would've been in pretty good order. It runs and drives great and the bits that haven't been messed about with (which isn't much to be fair) are in good condition, it's now crusher fodder. It's like taking a pile of cash and just shredding it. The mind boggles.

When I looked at the first couple of pictures, I quite liked it, but once we got to the steering wheel..............................

When you done with it pour half a tonne of manure over the seats and give Cavcraft a bell, he'll bite your hand off if recent purchases are anything to go by  :-D

:blink2:

That handbrake handle.

It looks like it was forcibly inserted up the rectum of somebody who just had a night on the beers and the vindaloo. There's even blood in amongst it!

The previous keeper to the one you got it off shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a Hot Wheels toy car, let alone a real one

At least you know you can leave the keys in the ignition and it'll still be there in the morning.

Err.....nice.

Which part do you actually intend to use?

Front wings, front and rear bumpers and it's thoughts and soul

Absolutely and utterly superb. Theshadow and I are spinning with jealousy.

The guy who did the decals and turned it into a van.........it's only a matter of time before he barricades himself into a house and tells police he 'aint coming  out!

It could make a nice kennel for Billy's dog

Do the front seats still heat???

I haven't tried, but I think they would stink so i'm not going to.

Has anyone else noticed the leather seats? What hasn't been thrown away is covered in shite. What a waste!

I dont even like PT Cruisers.

But what kind of sadist does that to a car? any car? Then steps back and thinks he did a great job.

Odd..

I haven't fried, but I think they would stink so i'm not going to.

FTFY

A previous owner was clearly a man of wealth and taste.

I'm going to have to phone the society for the protection of cruelty to cruisers. Someone needs locked up before another innocent victim is abused.

A suitable end maybe?

When I saw your earlier post I thought the same thing - rob the bits you can and then pass it on to the Oval boys, I bet you might even get your diesel money ( so long as it as less than £20).

Well "purchased"

I quite like the look of that steering wheel.

Obviously I will replicate the look, please don't misconstrue that to think I want the one off the car...

Posted

Get the back doors welded up and do a proper job of vanising it? Interior would look ok if you pressure washed it or steam cleaned it...

Posted

WTF

Really don't know what to say really

Left alone I actually like these. I'd wager that the previous owner has been indulging in some of the Devil's Cabbage though.

How on earth have two members of this board managed to buy vehicles with rear windows blacked out (badly) with spray paint?

I think you may have overdosed on the bravery pills! But you've done favours to the following:

the previous owner, by removing the millstone from his mojo

the car - you're either going to save it or save its soul

the world, by keeping one more Cruiser away from borderline psychos with driving licences and access to tools and paint

Shout me if you need help with anything or distributing parts - in fact I'm London bound late tomorrow if you're starting to part out bits from it already
