Are you sure that wasn't 11811, visiting from Guernsey? Over there they use numbers only, no letters, as Cyprus did until the 50s.

There appeared to be a "gap" between the "II" and the "611", but I was past him fairly quickly. Never thought about the Channel Is. you may have solved it for me!

If you are lucky enough to have a Jaguar XK 150S then you just can't beat this:

I used to use a set of trade plates, 007EE. They belonged to a good friend of mine, a part time car dealer in his lates 80s. Always got me pulled over though. Perhaps I looked like a rogue.

I saw U3 on a RAV4 yesterday, I guess certainly more than the car's worth.

Ah!, i was doing 005 not OO5!, In that case OO8 that i used to see on a M3 is now on a BMW 530i Sport.

'1100 R' is currently for sale on Ebay -which would suit one of my Fiat 1100 r's rather well

£5,000

I saw '8OO' on a Black Range Rover Sport thingy a couple of weeks back, at first I thought it was '800' so when enquiring about it on the RAC I got this:

Plate: 800

Make: FORD

Year of manufacture: n/a

Model: GALAXY (CD 340)

Engine size(CC): n/a

I enquired a few more 8xx plates through the RAC, most cars seem to come back as above with the strange little numbers next to the model bit and no year of manufacturer or engine size like this other one:

Plate: 825

Make: AUDI

Year of manufacture:

Model: A6 (PI C5)

Engine size(CC):

They dont show up on the DVLA, anyone know what they are all about?

Guernsey registration possibly?

Possibly, didnt think that. I was thinking more along the lines of Royal Family vehicles etc.....

In London one time I saw a blacked out black Rangie come barreling out from Buck House with the registration 2P. More recently, I saw a new shape Rangie go into The Palace with NO numberplates. I think we all know who was in that car!

005 wouldn't be issued in UK as DVLA doesn't use "leading zeros" as Cyprus does. So that'll be OO 5, which is an Essex combination. My Granada should really be GF 008, but I prefer it with just the 8, I'm not keen on carrying the zeros. One day I may get stopped for it, but until then...

I literally saw with my actual eyes a bentley on my lunch today, reg was PU 51 EEE. (I think. It was definitely PU51 EE# or E#E or #EE if not).

I very nearly crashed. He didn't look like a complete trolling cunt, which was a mild surprise.

Saw SMA 44SH on Polish plates. wasnt quick enough with the camera.

I was lost in Leeds tonight, due to roadworks, and was overtaken by an Ice-Cream van... reg W111PPY. With a dot between the first two 1s. Quite chortlesome....

In a similar vein, I saw a 'Rossis' ice cream van yesterday that had the registration ROS 55L (with a screw at the bottom of the 'L', making it look like 'I.')

I used to drive through a mature private housing estate on Lapal Lane near Halesowen. I once passed a car owned by an old giffer who looked as if he'd lived there for ages, nice gardens, tiday driveway etc... on his driveway was then a mk3 Ford Mondeo with 'L4PAL' for its numberplate, it think the plate is now mounted on a 10' Toyota Prius.

Our local Ice cream man has MRW 1P , ( Mr Wip"py" I guess )
