New Top Gear

I'd like to see them only be allowed to test Electric (not hybrids) and Self-Driving cars, and mobility scooters, and bicycles.  and maybe delivery mopeds, and trams and buses.

I mean, I have to pay a tax to the government to watch the TV.  And the Government decides how much of that it gives to the BBC, so I think it would be politically correct if tax money was only used to give out information on and encourage us to take an interest in the future of transport. I'm happy to think that the presenters would be allowed to criticise pisspoorproducts and designs

One of the presenters should be blind, and another missing limbs.

I liked Reid. It was good to briefly have a younger voice on there, someone who could get excited about new technology. Pleased Harris is staying on though.

Old presenter on TV today...my own view the new show should have combined XFactor and the Apprentice to find the new presenters through a competition. Could have been fun - racing, buying banger cars, driving to somewhere inaccessible, changing the clutch on a mini, interviewing a 'celebrity' etc etc...

But ultimately as someone  has said TV has had its day. The era of the BBC and ITV in all its pomp is ending as people use the broadcast web in different ways. I'm old but it already feels a bit old fashioned to me and a lot of the programmes seem aimed at the baby boomer generation who still watch. I suppose if you have something with ok ratings they just want to keep flogging it.

Gave up on Top Gear ages ago although caught one of the new episodes of 5th gear recently and it was great, Plato, Tiff, Jonny Smith, VBH and a few others looking at things like the new fiesta at, but also looking at hot hatches for under 5k so Clio 182 Trophy, explaining about what the Trophy bit means, the Fabian VRS, but watch out for a certain engine code.. All good detailed stuff from people who clearly love all cars, at any budget..

Young Rory Reid..... who is 39! I couldn't believe it either.....

Is he? Crikey. Does that make me young too? Or just in comparison with the Clarkson/Hammond/May dinosaur?

I liked Reid.

Evans was horrendous, but the programme found its balance when the rapport between Harris and JoeyFromFriends developed.

Reid always seemed pretty uninspiring.

I’ll give the new series with the new presenters a go, but I reckon it'll be comparable to the work of the Chuckle Brothers, who I always found as amusing as a fatty fart in a lift.

Who are the dickheads who thought Flintman and GoneOffGuinness would be a great* step in the right direction? They had a perfect opportunity to make a decent change, and they appear to have shit on it from a great height.

I actually only came on the mobile site to post the choice of new presenters on the grin thread. What a pair of twunts.

Given that McGuinness is an extra large arsehole, then quite probably.

Okay... I've never even heard of the new pair as far as I'm aware.

I've always enjoyed watching stuff from Chris Harris though, followed his channel on YouTube for years prior to him getting involved in TG. His boyish enthusiasm for everything backed up with seemingly solid technical know-how always seemed a good match.

Particular fun one I remember was an episode where he went to Anglesey and was caning a Ferrari F-40 around the circuit, putting it sideways around the corners and clearly just having a laugh.

Just seems to me to be a true car enthusiast, but one who happens to have a knack for talking to a camera rather than a "TV star" who happens to be on a car show.

Le Blanc has good credentials on both fronts...and I reckon just those two with less meddling scripting from the producers could actually be a good watch. They're different enough characters that you'll get interesting *real* differences of opinions on stuff, but have enough common ground they could work well together.

...at least that's my view.

I have to admit to never having made it all the way through an episode without losing interest and wandering off to do something else.

Those with long memories may remember when Clark son left the old old top gear they re launched it with fucking Kate humble of all people as the lead who had zero interest in cars . This killed it and everyone but humble did 5th gear and the new tg was born .

Hopefully this will kill the current generation of tg and they can come back in a few years with something less derivative .

Wonder why they've taken Flintoff on, he's just a very tall, loud mouthed, overbearing, Northerner. Quite likely to bully other cast and crew and make some potentially headline making gaffes?

Oh, wait...

What do you want to see on a motoring prog?

A balanced mix of real world new motors being tested and some dicking about in stuff that is firmly in the land of "unexpected mother in law death" or "lottery win".  Some long term vehicle reports would be good from an eclectic mix of cars  vehicles in real life use ( cars, bikes, agricultural stuff) bit of current affairs news and motor sports news and thats more or less it really - think of the best bits of your motoring magazines without pages of bloody adverts for MG spares.

Thats what I'd like to see, presented by someone who has a genuine interest in motoring current affairs.

They're all on borrowed time anyway , by 2032 they'll be discussing the only question left, what colour to have your driverless electric car in.

I'd like to think I'll have given up driving by then but I'll only be 71

It doesn’t really make any odds to me as I haven’t watched it in years, but the fact the utterly utterly pointless floater that is McGuinness is presenter just makes the unwatchable less watchable.

Could have been worse, Billy...apparently Giles Brandreth was the second choice ;-)

Needs to be a segment on the new show where theshadow and cavcraft buy and sell some second hand cars.

I liked LeBlanc, won't bother with it anymore.

There was a James may programme on last night on one of the BBC channels, that was very watchable.

Top gear should be scrapped now.

It's like a fucked old banger that's clearly past it's best no matter what you throw at it.

This, it could be the best TV show ever and I wont be watching simply because of McGuiness (and Flintoff)

Paddy McGuinness coming to Top Gear with his joke will be the death of it.

Come to Top Gear Stu. We've got Paddy McGuiness. And his joke.

And that's the end of Top Gear. Come back next week to witness the same joke but played longer!

I stopped watching TG when Clarkson and the others broke a Princess and a Marina for the sake of it.

That. I stopped watching it when smashing up stuff that was old* and shit* became tiresome and honestly haven't missed it even remotely.

Thought MLB was okay, only watched it twice when he was in it though.

Flintoff is a nobber. Can't stand the irritating aura of twat he seems to exude. Dunno who the other bloke is. Don't care either.

Get a decent female presenter in there, its 2018 for God's sake.
